Mercedes-Benz is taking 6 to 8 months to replace the high-voltage battery due to the recall mentioned below. Even after an 8-month wait, no guaranteed ETA is provided to resolve the issue. The contact owns a 2023 Mercedes-Benz E450. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds with the cruise control activated, a yellow "Active Lane Keeping Assistance is Inoperable" message was displayed, followed by a red "Emergency Braking to Begin" message displayed on the instrument panel. To prevent the failure, the contact immediately deactivated the cruise control. The dealer was notified about the failure on several occasions, and two separate cases were filed with the manufacturer. The dealer replaced the steering wheel, replaced several fuses, and performed several software updates to correct the failure under warranty; however, the failure persisted after each repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 15,500.

Rear bumper valance fell off while driving. Unsure where it occurred, but it did happen on freeway most likely. Thinking must’ve been something wrong with the clips. Car is only four years old.

Safety Issue: Infotainment display screen produces scrambled pixels during Apple CarPlay navigation while driving. Description: When Apple CarPlay is connected and navigation is in use, the vehicle's infotainment display screen suddenly produces scrambled pixels, rendering the map and display unreadable. This malfunction occurs without warning while the vehicle is in motion, creating a dangerous visual distraction for the driver and uncertainty of where and when to turn or exit. This is a known, recurring issue. On January 7, 2021, I brought this problem to Mercedes-Benz of Indianapolis (Repair Order #624027), where a firmware update was applied and the issue was allegedly resolved. The fix has not proven permanent — the problem has since recurred and continues to present a safety hazard while driving. Despite this being a widely documented issue affecting numerous Mercedes owners, Mercedes-Benz has not issued a recall or technical service bulletin that I am aware of. My dealer is requiring a diagnostic fee of over $250 to inspect the vehicle, and Mercedes-Benz USA customer service has been unreachable. Requested Action: I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue and consider whether a Technical Service Bulletin or recall is warranted given the safety implications of a sudden display malfunction while driving.

COMPONENT/SYSTEM: High-voltage battery system (traction battery). The vehicle is subject to a manufacturer recall for risk of internal short circuit and potential thermal event. The vehicle and battery are available for inspection upon request. SAFETY RISK: According to the manufacturer and dealer, the defect presents a risk of battery fire, including while the vehicle is parked and not in operation. As a result, the manufacturer has instructed safety precautions, including limiting charging to no more than 80% and parking the vehicle outdoors and away from structures. These precautions materially limit driving range and require the vehicle to be parked away from the residence, which increases risk exposure to occupants, visitors, and surrounding property. REPRODUCTION/CONFIRMATION: The defect has been confirmed by the manufacturer through a formal recall applicable to this vehicle. The dealer has acknowledged the recall and the associated safety instructions. INSPECTIONS: There has been no individualized inspection specific to this vehicle because the issue is a known, manufacturer-identified defect affecting recalled vehicles of this model. The condition and risk have been acknowledged by both the manufacturer and dealer. WARNINGS/SYMPTOMS: There were no prior warning lights, messages, or observable symptoms before receiving notice of the recall. The safety issue was not detectable to the driver absent the manufacturer’s notification. REPAIR STATUS/TIMING: The manufacturer has advised that replacement batteries are not expected to be available for several months (estimated beginning December 2026 or later). In the interim, the vehicle must continue to be operated under the above safety restrictions, while customer must still bear the known, significant risk of fire until then.

The contact owned a 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350. The contact stated that warm air was blowing from the A/C unit while activated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, and the contact was informed that a leak had caused the A/C unit failure. The mechanic referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where a diagnostic test was performed. The contact was informed that the HVAC system was inoperable and an estimate for the repair was provided. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was provided a case number. The manufacturer denied responsibility for the failure but offered a monetary credit towards the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact later traded the vehicle due to the A/C unit failure. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000. The VIN was not available.

My vehicle was in for a normal service to have the spark plugs replaced. However I was told that the engine wiring harness had become brittle (apparently a common and reoccurring problem with my vehicle) and would likely cause misfiring after changing spark plugs. This did indeed happen and if I didn’t elect to have the harness replaced, it would have put myself and my son in danger. It was a very costly repair (over $4000) for something that the vehicle manufacturer is at fault for.

The issue is regarding the “Traffic Sign Assist” (Owner’s Manual page 221) feature of the Adaptive Cruise Control System. Vehicle will be made available if requested. The function of the "Traffic Sign Assist" is to monitor roadside "Speed Limit" signs and the cruise control will increase or decrease speed to stay within the permissible legal speed limit. The system worked except occasionally it would change the indicated permissible speed limit on the instrument display when there is no corresponding roadside speed limit sign and the permissible speed limit for that stretch of roadway is unchanged. When this happens, suddenly and abruptly, the vehicle display would indicate a "phantom" Higher or Lower Speed Limit sign and rapidly and abruptly accelerate or decelerate. Again there were no roadside signs posted indicating a higher or lower speed limit! The risk is potential for rear end collisions from or to other traffic due to the abrupt acceleration or deceleration. when we returned home from a 4556 mile road trip, we took the vehicle to the Mercedes dealer for routine service and mentioned this to the Service Advisor. He indicated that when this defect is reported their solution is to deactivate the system. I don't feel this is adequate since another driver could reactivate the system through the settings. It has not been inspected by anyone except the dealer. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms before the display changed and the vehicle abruptly accelerated or decelerated.

As I was entering the vehicle and getting into my seat, my right ring finger became caught in the passenger-side window as it was closing. The window failed to stop or reverse upon encountering my finger, which is a critical safety function designed to prevent exactly this type of injury. Instead, the window continued to close with full force, crushing my finger and holding it trapped. The pressure was so severe that it ripped my nail and nail bed out and caused a displaced fracture.

I have a rust free, relatively lower mileage car I bought for my teen daughter. Despite being such a clean car the rear subframe has rusted and rear suspension has broke off while driving, hitting the fuel tank and is unstable. We avoided an accident but the car is not drivable.
