  • 2018 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER SPORT
    - Manhattan, KS

On 05AUG25, my wife was involved in a frontal collision while driving our 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. The vehicle struck another vehicle at an estimated speed of over 30 mph, resulting in significant damage to the front passenger side, including deformation of the hood and front quarter panel. Despite the severity of the impact, no airbags deployed. My wife was properly restrained and sustained visible bruising across her torso. She is currently in her second trimester of pregnancy. The seatbelt force alone presented a serious safety risk to her and our unborn child. There were no airbag system warning lights prior to the collision, and the SRS appeared to be functioning normally. The failure of the airbags to deploy under these conditions indicates a potential defect in the supplemental restraint system. This appears to be a dangerous failure of the airbag system. We are requesting a formal investigation into the SRS components and crash sensor functionality of this vehicle model.

Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle had failed to shift to reverse(R). The warning message "Service Transmission" was displayed. The contact drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that there were metal shavings in the transmission. I have a coolant leak with my EGR cooler. The part is on back order for 90 days. Clearly the EGR cooler is being replaced on these cars on a regular so there must be a defect if I can’t get my vehicle fixed for 90 days or more

The contact owns a 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. Additionally, while driving at various speeds or from a complete stop, the vehicle hesitated, jerked, and responded upon depressing the accelerator pedal. The transmission warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while reversing. The contact stated that the failure had caused the vehicle to bump into nearby curbs while attempting to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the cause of the failure could not be determined; however, the dealer cleaned the throttle body. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer approximately 4 to 5 times. The dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

While accelerating the gas gage goes up but there is resistance when pressing on gas. The vehicle does not accelerate right away and there is a drag before the vehicle gets up to speed. It takes off really slow.

I am unsure of the proper name of the component with issues. There are several little issues but the main is, I believe it would be a software issue... Basically, on several different occasions (4) while driving at 60 mph and over, the vehicle suddenly stalled and shut off completely with no warning. The one incident which was the very first while I was driving less than 1 month ago. I was on a two lane road/freeway with another passenger in the back seat going somewhere between 60 and 65 mph. The car went completely black and everything shut down the entire vehicle, engine and all. I was in complete shock and end up scraping my front left rim on the curb I was next to, damaging the vehicle as a result. I am just recently out of my warranty and I do not have the funds to have it looked at just yet. I did inform the dealership that I purchased the vehicle from. I originally thought it was something maybe I had done to cause it. I also was completely unaware of any recalls on several of the year and model of my vehicle. When I looked up recalls on them, my vehicle has very similar issues to a lot of other cars like It that have already been recalled. I am upset because if I had known there were potential safety issues with these particular make and model car I would have not wanted to finance it, especially at the price point I have. It seems that several thousand were recalled a few months before I financed mine. Why wouldn’t I be notified that there could be potential safety issues when I was looking at the vehicle for purchase? Now here we are and I don’t think it is a safe vehicle. I need to do something.. I am not sure I want to keep it honestly ! What can I do? Please let me know at your earliest convenience. I tried to do remote start on my car and it said that it had failed. I went out to the car to try to turn it on, and when I hit the unlock button, it would not unlock. I had to manually use the key to open the driver side door, where I was met with the instrument panel showing that the RPMs, the gas gauge, and the miles per hour were all maxed out and stuck on one another. I have an infant in his car seat base was trapped in the backseat, there is no way to open the vehicle to get to the car seat base. I have only owned this car four days.

My key fog plus my emergency key fog aren't connecting or linked to my car. Even after I changed the batteries. Twice. I'm not able to unlock my door or turn on my car. I was out of town and locked my keys in the car. I wasn't able to unlock it even with the my mitsubishi connect smartphone link. I called customer service and they weren't able to unlock it as well. So I had to get roadside assistant.I was stranded in the middle of nowhere. Hours away from home on a sunday and all dealerships were closed.
