2014 RAM 1500 Complaints

Check engine light came on and then turning a corner my power steering turned off. Cause me to run off the road and almost crashed. It yanked me straight off the road. Put a code reader on it and C2200-49 was popping up.

Electronic power steering went out while I was operating the vehicle almost resulting in a wreck. Was intermittent after that, and now won't work at all making the vehicle undrivable.

The contact’s husband owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 45 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality with the message "Warning Power Steering" displayed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the power steering gear was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Starting to turn left and the power steering stopped working and made me go straight. Took it to dealer and checked out Power steering rack. I had no other option than to order part since this is the only vehicle i have. Immediately after the malfunction on the turn the "Service power steering" warning lamp showed up on dash.

Flexplate (flywheel) had tone wheel dislodge and destroy crank position sensor. After a $2200 repair quote from dealer and while at the dealer the repair shop claims the engine is failed completely and new ecodiesel engine is needed. Crankshaft is suspected failure. Vehicle had total loss of power when crank tone wheel failed. Very dangerous to find a shoulder without power while towing travel trailer. Vehicle was purchased due to longevity expected from diesel engine.

EPS Malfunctioning in an instant on the road. Never had this issue before, as I am driving on a curve, EPS or in this case a Red Flashing Steering wheel came on and my steering wheel locked almost causing an accident to myself, my safety was in a risk in an instant.

I was driving to work when my steering wheel started to jerk when making a left turn, all of the sudden it became real hard to steer and became difficult to drive.

On September 22, 2025, I was driving my wife to the store in my 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 Tradesman 5.7L Hemi Pickup. I was at a stop light waiting to turn left. When the light turned green, I proceeded to start my left turn, as I entered the intersection there was a tremendous jolt causing the steering wheel to violently jerk out of my hands and making it nearly impossible to turn the steering wheel. After nearly colliding with another vehicle waiting at the light in the opposite direction, it took all my strength to attempt to steer my vehicle since all power steering was gone. I veered my vehicle into a business driveway right at the intersection and was able to stop my vehicle. After I stopped, I noticed a "Hazard Light" flashing on the instrument panel, it was the " Electric Power Steering Fault Warning Light". I have since learned that there is and have been a "Recall" for a Power Steering problem with Ram Trucks in the same Year Range.

The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel felt stiff and became difficult to steer in either direction. The “Service Power Steering” warning light was illuminated. An appointment with the dealer was scheduled to inspect the vehicle. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.

The EPS system Electric Power Steering failed without warning while in the middle in a turn almost causing an accident and the truck running off the road. Other trucks of this model have problems with the EPS and have been recalled but my truck of the same model is not.
