2014 RAM 1500 Complaints

The contact's husband owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the horn initially failed to operate as needed. The contact then received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V459000 (Air Bags), which was linked to the horn failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the recall repair. Recently, the horn failure returned, along with select steering wheel options that also failed to operate as needed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the vehicle was diagnosed with a defective wiring harness and clock spring, and the contact was given an estimate for the repair. The contact then received a notice from the manufacturer about a lifetime warranty on the vehicle under the D-17 clock spring lifetime warranty. The contact called the dealer and informed them about the warranty notice. The dealer stated that there were no recalls on the vehicle and refused to honor the warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the ABS warning light illuminated, causing the cruise control mode and the 4WD system to become inoperable. Additionally, the traction control, the brakes, and the check engine warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that while driving and braking or accelerating on a wet road surface, the vehicle was sliding. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that an electronic brake control system part needed to be replaced, but the part had been discontinued. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving and turning, the electric power steering was inoperable intermittently, but the vehicle experienced excessive unintended steering efforts while turning the wheel back to center after making a turn. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

Electric Power Steering Loss Entire Power steering and front end rack steering had to be replaced.

Background: Vehicle purchased in Madison, WI at Schoepp Motors (July 2019). Has been continuously titled, registered, and insured in Wisconsin for over 6 years. Vehicle is fully legal in the U.S. and has a valid Wisconsin title. Issue: The fuel tank strap rusted and failed. This is a well-documented problem for Ram trucks, and Stellantis created an Extended Warranty (Code X75) to address the issue. Stellantis’ database still lists this VIN as a “Canadian market” vehicle. Because of this coding error, U.S. dealerships cannot process coverage under the Fuel Tank Strap Extended Warranty (X75, 12 years / unlimited miles). The X75 program exists specifically due to a safety concern (fuel tank strap corrosion). Despite multiple attempts to resolve this with Stellantis, I have only been directed to “contact a broker,” which does not address the underlying database problem. Timeline: 2019: Vehicle purchased in Madison, WI. 2019–2025: Vehicle continuously titled, registered, and insured in Wisconsin. August 26, 2025: Dealer confirms VIN is coded as Canadian and cannot process warranty coverage. August 27, 2025: Case opened with Stellantis US Customer Care (#[XXX]). Multiple calls and emails ? Stellantis repeatedly instructs me to contact a broker, without identifying required documentation. I offered to provide Wisconsin title, registration, and insurance history. Broker consulted ? confirmed import documents are not retained after 5 years (per CBP retention rules). Stellantis refuses to escalate meaningfully; no path forward provided. Concern: The X75 program is a safety-related warranty that Stellantis is refusing to honor for a U.S. resident with long-term U.S. ownership. All reasonable avenues with Stellantis Customer Care have been exhausted. I am requesting regulatory review and intervention to compel Stellantis to correct the VIN market assignment and honor the X75 safety program. The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 MPH and exiting a highway, the contact heard a chime and became aware of the "Service Power Steering" warning light. The contact stated that the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact used additional force on the steering wheel to turn the steering wheel to the right and jerked the steering wheel to the center. The contact stopped the vehicle and disconnected the battery terminals to reset the system. The vehicle regained power steering functionality, but almost immediately, the vehicle lost steering assist functionality. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the power steering assist module and the rack and pinion gears had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19E077000 (Steering). The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 260,000.

The power steering on the vehicle is stiff due to a communication error to the right pinion. At highway speeds the vehicle’s steering wheel lock up resulting in abrasive movements and a loss of control of the vehicle steering. When the vehicle is at a low rate speed, the steering wheel is very hard to turn, which has almost resulted in a number of vehicle collisions. After extension of research, I have became aware there’s a pending lawsuit with no power regarding this issue. It is approximately three to $4000 to replace the power steering rack and pinion. There have been numerous complaint as mentioned in the lawsuit. I believe if this issue is not immediately addressed, and a recall is submitted from Mopar motor vehicle accidents will increase resulting into severe injury threat to the general public.

After rigorous research, it appears that my anti-lock braking system module has failed. A trusted family member that has worked on a plethora of vehicles during their career has performed an inspection and agrees. With the ABS module failing, this can be a significant safety issue for myself and others who own the same vehicle in both collision prevention and defensive driving maneuvers when necessary. I have called Ram dealerships specifically to inquire if the part is available, and it is not available but is in high demand (even dealerships are having difficulty with acquiring the part). After a significant amount of research, it is blatantly obvious that I am not the only one who can't find this needed part. This is my only vehicle for transportation. I have ordered the part with a third-party auto part vendor ($915.00) and have received an email from them advising me that the part I ordered and need is out of stock, and my spot in line is reserved for when the part becomes available. After even more research, I have learned that the manufacturer for Ram parts no longer manufactures this particular part. There currently are warning lights on (ABS, traction control, and the brake indicator) they have remained on since diagnosing this issue and have not gone away. With that being said, this can have a significant impact on immediate braking if necessary, and can lead to other problems such as stability control, transmission issues, uneven braking, parking brake failure, and ultimately total brake failure while in motion. This is not just an issue for me, but apparently for a significant amount of 2013-2015 Ram owners as well. I am on a budget; there is zero supply and high demand. Ram owners are hemorrhaging money regarding repairs to this necessary component for safe vehicle functionality. With this being my mode of transportation, I'm having to be even more aware of extra safety precautions which adds a significant amount of unnecessary stress as a driver.

The vehicle was taken to three independent mechanics, who determined that the frame rail bracket and fuel tank straps needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance because the vehicle was imported from Canada. The contact was advised to contact a customs broker for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

Steering suddenly stopped working, causing me to have a hard time turning the steering wheel to complete my turn.I have found out that Ram is recalling certain Ram trucks but mine is not included in the recall.

While driving on winding country roads (30mph speed limit) the electronic power steering chimed and lost all assistance. I almost ran into another car/ off the road as steering became extremely difficult. I was able to get the wheel turned and come to a stop.I have never had an issue with the steering before so this was very unexpected. The truck is completely stock, regularly maintained and only has about 150000 miles on it. I was able to pull codes from my scanner C2217-00 Electric Power Steering Internal Failure. The fact that I have driven a truck that had hydraulic power steering fail and had more control is alarming.
