2017 RAM 1500 Complaints

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 35-40 MPH and hauling a trailer, the track bar fractured, causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle, and the vehicle veered into the passing lane, causing the trailer to swerve from side to side. The contact stated that upon shifting to neutral(N), the vehicle decelerated and stopped. The contact was able to drive to the residence at 15 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the Chrysler dealer however, no assistance was provided. The vehicle was then taken to a Chevrolet dealer, where an alignment was performed. The contact was later replaced with the track bar. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that assistance could not be provided because the vehicle was out of warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 157,000.

Rack and Pinion failed on me at 99k miles. I just got done with my workout and went to go start up the truck and the service power steering message came on with the power steering indicator light. That wheel would hardly move when I tried to move. I also decided to look under the truck and under the hood for any leaks and nothing and then soon realized after doing a quick google search that the 2013 and up models are electric power assist instead of hydraulic. The truck was towed next day to the dealer and they quoted $3600 to replace the rack and pinion.

Air suspension stopped working. Rear driver side drops with out noticed at anytime while parked or driving. My safety concern is that it will drop low enough while driving on the highway and cause for my truck to roll over. I have read about others having the same issues with the air suspension in the front, back or both. I was going to take it to the dealership but reading online from different souses and other that have the same problems the dealer had not fully fix the problem. Am not in the position to leave my vehicle in the services department of the dealership for then not to fix the problem.

Hemi 5.7 lifters and ate up crank had to replace engine with 79000 miles and now I keep getting random misfire ordered ecm and it want let alt charge they say it’s in our wiring

The EGR valve and EGR cooler went out and it caused the MAP sensor to melt and also caused the intake manifold to melt and if I didn’t shut the truck off it was going to catch on fire. And this truck has had this problem in the past due to a recall and it was repaired and it happened again on may 4th 2025

I am reporting a recurring and well-documented issue involving broken exhaust manifold bolts on my 2017 Ram 1500 with the 5.7L HEMI engine. My truck has only 47,000 miles, and the driver-side manifold has already required repair once due to broken bolts. Now, I am again hearing ticking noises and suspect further bolt failures and the passenger side , indicating this issue is not isolated but chronic and systemic. Thousands of other owners across Ram forums and communities have experienced the same failure, especially in Ram 1500s from 2009 to 2018 equipped with the 5.7L HEMI. The failures are typically caused by thermal expansion and contraction, which leads to the exhaust bolts snapping, particularly the rear ones. This results in exhaust leaks, increased emissions, and potential long-term engine damage. Despite the known and widespread nature of this defect, there has been no recall or extended warranty coverage from the manufacturer. Owners are frequently forced to cover expensive repairs (over $1,000) for what is clearly a design or material defect that occurs well below typical component lifespans. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate this issue and consider initiating a recall or mandatory service campaign. A critical engine component failing at such low mileage, and more than once, should not be dismissed as normal wear and tear.

I was going down the road and I couldn't steer my truck the power steering went out cause me to almost wreck power steering is electrical

The contact owns a 2017 RAM 1500. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the check engine, ABS, and the traction control warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the ABS module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired, and the contact was advised to contact a dealer for repairs. An unknown dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the parts were on backorder. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

My electronic power steering (eps) rack and pinion completely failed out of nowhere. I took it to the dealership and they told me the module basically fried itself and that I had to replace it. I've only owned the truck for 5 months now and can't really afford to pay 4,000+ dollars to repair this defective part.

My Power steering started going in and out a few months ago. Somehow survived the trip from South Carolina to Alaska. Power steering completely went out on Tuesday, [XXX]. I’ve ran diagnostics and it has to be the EPS rack. The rack is getting power but is not responding. I’ve been hearing this is happening to a lot of 4th gen rams.
