2014 RAM 1500 Complaints

The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, there was smoke coming through the A/C vents. The ABS warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the ABS module had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the part to do the recall repair was not available. The dealer informed the contact that the ABS module was under engineering review. The dealer advised the contact that the vehicle was drivable. The contact stated that after driving 5 miles and arriving at the residence, the front brakes seized, causing the wheels to become significantly hot, and the weights on the wheels started to melt and separate. The contact stated that the vehicle was undrivable. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

Later, while driving the check engine warning light illuminated, and the "throttle body" message was displayed before the vehicle decelerated and stalled. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the crankshaft position sensor was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V475000 (Engine, Engine Cooling); but later experienced the failure listed in the recall. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 138,000.

The electronic power steering (EPS) on my truck failed suddenly. Luckily, I was just in my driveway, but this could have led to a serious safety issue if I had been on the road at speed or pulling a trailer. After researching this I see that there have been some recalls regarding this issue for trucks produced in other years, but nothing for the 2014. It is a costly and potentially deadly issue that needs to be examined.

Gas tank strap fell off, tank was hanging, gouged my drive shaft. Frame where strap sit in is all rusted out. Strap will not stay up. Need to bring attention to this as it could if been a very hazardous condition, as a firefighter this should be under warranty.

On 9/6/24 at approx 12 noon, I was driving my 2014 Ram truck at 50 mph and had a total loss of steering control. A "service power steering" warning showed up on the dash, and I pulled off the road into my driveway. It appears that there is a recall for certain Rams: "Equipment Safety Recall VB9 -- Electric Power Steering Gear" but the serial number on my power steering rack is not listed. The number on my power steering rack is "TIC2123C4007". The truck will be taken to a mechanic on Monday 9/9/24 for inspection. The truck may be inspected upon request. I was driving straight when the power steering failed. If I had been in a curve, there is no way I could have controlled the vehicle. There was no indication of a problem before the total loss of power steering.

My 2014 Ram 1500 Sport, Crew Cab, 2x4, 5.7 Hemi engine, was showing on and off ABS, Traction Control, and Trailer Maintenance warning lights on the dash around the Aug. 5, 2024. It got to the point over the last few weeks that the warning lights now stay on. I had Napa auto service run a diagnostic check and it showed Code: C220-049 ABS Control Module Internal Electrical Failure. I contacted local and online Mopar Dealers and Parts department for a new ABS Control Module. I was told Mopar doesn't have a replacement part in stock. Some sites say that Mopar Part# 68228991AD is discontinued. One online Mopar Part Suppler said, that the Part has been on back order for a very long time with no real availability date. Another website, reported that the ABS Control Module failure has been an issues for over 2 years. Mopar has yet to figure out a functioning replacement or fix for the ABS Control Module failures. I am concerned as this part has disabled the ABS system, stability control, and the trailer towing electrical brake controller. I can not tow my travel trailer safely. I'm very cautious driving due to the lack of anti lock brakes and the stability control not working. This is a safety concern, and I would think Mopar would have fixed the issues and the supply system shortage for ABS Control Module.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 220,000.

The truck is a 2014 Ram with 74,000 miles garage kept and I have intermittent ABS service warning light researched and the ABS module has gone bad.

have been searching for valid part for repair. Dealers state part discontinued. Today, incident where I braked heavily, almost lost control of my vehicle. Swerved and prevented accident. Safety issue and dangerous situation that may not be avoided next time. Sadly, feel dealer or manufacturer must be held responsible for lack of part or failure to provide updated part for purchase.
