2017 RAM 1500 Complaints

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled and failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the crankshaft sensor and the ECU were replaced. Additionally, the dealer informed the contact that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

Dodge has failed to recognize an issue that is extremely prevelant in Americas Number one selling truck. The 2015-2020 models are all experiencing exhaust Manifold deformities/ Warpage that are causing the manifold bolts to snap at the engine resulting in the vehicle spewing untreated exhaust fumes both into the environment as well as the passenger compartment. They have redesigned the components but have not issued a recall. This is both an environmental issue as well as a health issue for the drivers. This is the number 1 selling truck in America so I cant imagine how much unfiltered exhaust is entering our environment from these vehicles. A simple google search of 5.7 hemi exhaust leak will show you how prevalent this issue is. Dodge's redesign of the manifolds is a clear indication that they admit the issue was a design flaw. It is both seriously detrimental to the environment as well as the passengers.

Shortly after starting the engine it suddenly shut off. This has happened on three occasions, and each time I noticed the key fob was between the ON and ACC positions. I think the key fob sometimes returns too far after I release it from the start position. The first two times I had to turn it to the off position, remove the key fob, then restart the engine. This time nothing happened when I tried to restart the engine. I removed the key fob and opened and closed the driver door, then was able to restart the engine.

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the fuel gauge reading was inaccurate and would display Empty (E) while the fuel tank was half full. Additionally, the contact stated that the failure had prevented him from operating the vehicle with the key fob. The vehicle was taken the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuel sensor had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure was approximately 30,000.

The power steering turns off and on intermittently at random times, locations, and speeds, sometimes when your driving straight, sometimes when your turning. My assumption is it is a fault electronic stearing system. As this has been known to happen to similar models.

Air suspension issues at 50k miles my truck rides lop sided half the time. Some days it works fine other days the driver side is sitting lower than the passenger or the backs lower than the front it’s never the same issue. Sometimes it don’t work at all. Which is crazy with only 50k miles

Ram 5.7 hemi engine exhaust manifold leak ticking sound if it’s not fix or the bolt snap the smoke coming from the exhaust can be suck on the vent and can have a carbon monoxide poisoning inside the truck please I just found out that it’sbeen a known problem for dodge ram trucks and nothing is being done by the company to recall or fix such problem than you

On the 5.7liter Hemi engines the exhaust manifold bolts break into the block of the engine causing exhaust leak which can potentially get in the cab and cause injury or death. As well the heat shield bolts that cover the exhaust manifold break.

My family has been exhibiting symptoms of asthma for several years. Recently, while cleaning out my truck I came across a massive mold growth under the backseat of my Ram 1500 which i believe has been the cause of these health issues all along. I've included multiple photos showing the extent of the growth. It appears that water has been running down the rear truck pillars and soaking the interior carpeting/fabric under/behind the rear seat. There are numerous well documented examples of water leak issues in Ram trucks equipped with a sunroof and third brake lights which I believe to be the cause of the mold resulting in my family's asthma related issues. I have previously taken my truck into the dealer for water leak concerns (I had noticed wetness on the front window pillars after a heavy rain). It was recommended at that time that I check/blow out the sunroof drains and not to park the truck on any incline (this is ridiculous). I blew air through the drains (they were perfectly clear with no blockage). I didn't notice further wetness on the front pillars so I didn't pursue the issue again until now. The nature of these water leaks makes them very difficult to detect and poses a serious health risk as the extensive mold growth would not normally be noticeable. Ram should be required to recall trucks with these issues to fix the leaks and provide adequate water management (e.g. properly designed drip tray with water drainage outside of the cabin) in case of future leaks to prevent this safety issue.

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 MPH down the driveway, the tailgate door released independently, causing damage to the trailer that was being hauled. The contact stated that the door latch released independently several times while driving. There was no warning prior to the failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and notified the contact that the repair would be an out-of-pocket expense. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.
