2014 RAM 1500 Complaints

Approximately two weeks ago I was driving the truck and exiting off the interstate and at the end of the ramp intended to turn left as I had a green light. As I slowed to safely turn I lost all power steering assistance and ended up jumping the curb and leaving the roadway. Thank God I didn’t hit anyone or damage any property. I was able to fight the steering wheel to make it home. I checked the power steering fluid level and condition of fluid for possible contaminants but found no issue. I remember a recall issued for 2015-2016 Rams for power steering failures. I believe the issue is much wider than initially thought. I have not gotten an estimate on the repairs.

The reluctor wheel on my 2014 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel has failed. The truck was taken to the dealer on May 8th of 2023 where they flashed the ECU as a remedy for the vehicle losing signal between the magnetic material on the Tone Wheel (reluctor wheel). A few months later the vehicle went into "limp mode" with a crankshaft position sensor fault and became hard to start. A local mechanic shop explained to me that the tone wheel is has failed leading to the hard starting and advised me that there is a Technical Service Bulletin on the issue and I should call a local dealer to see if they will do the repair at no cost. I called a local dealer to tell them that the tone wheel has failed and asked if it was part of the recall [XXX] ). I was told no that it is not part of the recall and repairs would be an out of pocket cost. These tone wheel failures are a known issue by the manufacturer and flashing the ECU is a half measure at best in an effort for them to do as little as possible to address the actual issue for the consumer. The safety of my wife and other drivers was put at risk when the vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly went into limp mode on a busy highway where limp mode is well below the speed of traffic. Had the recall addressed the known faulty part instead of just telling the ECU to force limp mode when the known faulty part inevitably fails the safety of my wife and the public would not have been affected by this issue. The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while accelerating from a stop light, the vehicle stopped unintendedly and made a knocking sound. The contact pulled over, restarted the vehicle, and drove the vehicle to the residence. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 116,725. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 50–55 MPH, the power steering functionality became inoperable. The red steering wheel warning light was illuminated after the failure. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact that the rack and pinion and steering assembly module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The local dealer was not contacted. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Action Number: RQ23003 (Steering). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 105,000.

Parked vehicle was fine, next day started truck to back out took both hands to turn wheel. Shut , restarted -no difference . Poage dealer Hannibal mo said 2-3 month back order and questionable. Used old part #, got part weeks later $2413.23 part replaced.

My wife and I were leaving my daughters house Christmas Day when I started my 2014 Ram pickup and it felt like a locked steering column was locked. Shut it off and restarted it but it didn’t respond. I had it towed the next day to the dealer that services my vehicle and the steering control module shorted out which meant the whole steering system has to be replaced at a cost of $3700.00. Plus 3 weeks to get the part. The only good thing is we weren’t driving when it happened. As it turns out no recalls for what I consider a very dangerous condition with absolutely no prior warning. Researched and found out it’s happened to many others while they were driving, but no deaths so Ram doesn’t consider it recall worthy, so how many consumers have to die or get seriously hurt? It has 26540 miles!

Was driving one day while towing a trailer and all of a sudden while making a left turn the power steering went out which caused me to hit an embarkment and damage the front bumper area of my vehicle. My safety was put at risk because of the damage it caused and how difficult the steering became all of a sudden without warning or anything. There weren't any warning prior to the power steering going out, but as soon as it went out a symbol appeared on the dashboard. This was the first time that I have ever seen that symbol. Vehicle hasn't been inspected by anybody other than myself. Checked for recalls and saw that my 2014 wasn't included.

ABS Module failed had to send in to module masters to get repaired. Unbelievablable
