2018 RAM 2500 Complaints

The manufacturer stated that reimbursement might be possible for repairing the vehicle; however, it was still unable to provide a time when parts would be available. ABS lights coming off and on, cruise control shuts off when ABS lights come on. No ABS braking when light comes on.

My vehicle has an open safety recall (24V896000) with no available remedy for over a year. I'm not sure why you guys aren't seeing it. The ABS warning light is illuminated, indicating a failure of a critical safety system. I reside in [XXX] where annual safety inspections are required and that date is now here. Despite the defect, the vehicle was passed by a Dodge dealership knowing the ABS system is not functioning properly as there isn't a fix. The manufacturer, Stellantis, has no repair available and no timeline and I've only gotten the run around from their recall department and corporate. I am being forced to operate a vehicle with a known safety defect or not use it at all. This situation leaves consumers without a remedy for a federally recognized safety issue. My 2018 Ram 2500 was involved in a collision with another vehicle. The vehicle in front of me had to slam on their brakes for an object in the roadway. When I slammed on my brakes, the ABS and Traction Control lights lit up on the dash, my tires locked up, and I skid approx 100' and rear ended the vehicle in front of me. There was no shoulder to pull off to and oncoming vehicles in the other lane. There was no way out of the collision. If the ABS system had worked properly, my vehicle and the vehicle in front if me would not have collided. The faulty component is the Hydraulic Power Unit for the Antilock Braking System. The last time I brought the truck in for service at Southland Dodge in Houma, LA, USA, they offered to fix the recall. I gladly accepted. When I picked the vehicle up the system was still malfunctioning.

For almost two years the ABS has been intermittently non functioning. Verified by an independent then David Taylor Dodge in Belleville Illinois in February 2025. There is apparently still no fix for it. This is unacceptable especially considering that it is a heavy duty diesel truck purchased solely for pulling very heavy trailers. Not being able to safely stop is dangerous and dealer says there is nothing they can do.

*CRITICAL FAILURE: The Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) within the ABS has suffered a total malfunction. Due to the immediate risk of brake system failure and loss of operator control, the vehicle is grounded and remains available for technical inspection. *OPERATIONAL IMPACT-The compromised ABS Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) significantly degrades the vehicle's emergency braking capabilities. Under rapid-deceleration requirements, the system's failure to prevent wheel lock-up poses a direct risk of catastrophic loss of vehicle control and potential personnel injury. SAFETY IMPACT - This malfunction introduces an unacceptable safety hazard during high-speed or emergency maneuvers. The absence of functional ABS increases the probability of skidding and multi-vehicle collisions, thereby endangering the operator, passengers, and civilian traffic. *I have reported it to a dealer and I have called RAM customer care and have a Case number for Attorney to contact (96341810) *I have had the vehicle inspected by two mechanics and I have taken to dealers and they will not look at it since there is no parts available to repair it. *Initial Symptom Onset: The initial illumination of the ABS and Traction Control warning indicators occurred in June 2024, signaling a critical system fault. Diagnostic Evaluation: Upon presenting the vehicle for professional diagnostic service, it was determined that the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) required replacement. However, localized and national parts shortages resulted in an indefinite delay in the procurement of the necessary components. Manufacturer Recall Status: The vehicle remains in a degraded safety state pending the formalization and execution of a safety recall by the manufacturer (RAM) to address known HCU/ABS defects.
