2017 RAM 2500 Complaints

The contact's husband owned a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated that prior to the failure, the dealer replaced the crankcase filter and performed other unknown maintenance services. The contact stated that after her husband remotely started the vehicle, there was smoke coming from underneath the hood and smoke entered the cabin of the vehicle. The contact's husband opened the hood and noticed there were flames coming from the engine compartment. The contact's husband extinguished the fire with a hose. No injuries were sustained, and no medical attention was received. No police or fire department reports were filed. The contact related the failure to a faulty solid-state intake heater grid relay located in the engine compartment; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The vehicle remained in the driveway and was not yet deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 94,000.

The contact’s son-In-Law owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated while her daughter was putting her grandchildren in the vehicle, her 2-year-old grandson, who was briefly left in an unknown front seat with the doors closed, pushed the gear shifter into drive (D) and the vehicle accelerated without applying the brakes. The vehicle crashed into a trailer filled with tools located 20-30 ft. away. The vehicle then crashed into the corner of a storage building and stopped. There were no injuries sustained. The air bags did not deploy. There was no police report filed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V100000 (Power Train). The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under the recall in 2018; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.

This issue was repaired by the dealer one year ago and it has happened again, they tried to charge me by pretending they didnt know about the previous repair. the internet is full with the exact same complaint and how is this not a recall to hold them accountable?? the service electronic brake system and ABS lights come on and off each time making annoying noises. when the lights are on the 4x4, cruise control and other items will not engage. the dealer agreed to repair it but told me to call in 5 months to see IFFFF any parts are available this not only shows its a wide spread problem but their incompetency to fix it. how do I know the second module they replace wont malfunction as well???

The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the ABS control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000

Under normal driving conditions I got the “SERVICE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM” message along with an ABS light, traction control light, loss of traction control, loss of cruise control functions and loss of 4x4 functions. This is a well known safety issue that needs to be addressed by the manufacturer. With ABS being a SAFETY feature required on all vehicles, it is only appropriate that this become a safety recall.

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V021000 (Steering). The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the recall was performed. The contact stated that he was informed that the mechanic temporarily welded the nut to the adjuster sleeve and later assembled the drag link welds; however, the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle was pulling to the right. The vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics where the contact was informed that an alignment was needed; however, due to the welding, the alignment could not be performed. Additionally, the contact stated that due to the alignment not being performed he had to replace the tires several times. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the contact was provided a cost for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there would be a charge for any repair on the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.

The vehicle randomly goes into 4WD without the user turning the knob to request 4WD. If this happens at high speed it will cause severe damage to the vehicle drive train. Makes steering extreemly difficult on pavement. 1. Service 4WD lamp illuminates. 2. Reduced speed and exited highway. 3. Steered vehicle to off ramp. Upon steering left vehicle entered 4WD without user request making steering very difficult. Vehicle would not return to 2WD unless user shut down vehicle, turn knob to 4WD then back to 2WD. Investigated by certified RAM technician at a dealership on 5/11/2]22 who could not find the issue. The dealership cleared the truck for ordinary use. Currently the vehicle status is service 4WD light is on and it will not shift to 4WD or 2WD. 2 incidents one in 1 June 2021 2 September 2022

Service ABS system and service electronic braking system waring lights keep coming on. Throwing code C0020-0. Brake hydraulic control unit is bad. This is a common problem and should be recalled.

My 2017 Ram with less than 14000 miles has no a steady “service ABS system “light on:checking on internet this seems be to happening to ALL Ram models.
