2018 RAM 3500 Complaints

my vehicle (Ram 3500 w/ a 6.7 liter diesel engine) has less than 38,000 miles and the ABS Hydraulic Control Module has to be replaced. I’ve been told the part is on back order and cost to replace the unit is over $500 with another $400 plus to install this part. The dealership stated they could not place more orders until late March and since I’ve been researching and found out that this is a larger issue that has been identified to Ram with a class action lawsuit for certain years and I think that this issue should be handled at no cost to the consumer.

The contact owns a 2018 Ram 3500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle experienced complete brake failure. While driving, the brake pedal was depressed but was stiff and slow to respond. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the hydro-boost needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. While driving, the contact stated that the brake pedal was firm. The parking brake failed to engage fully. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake master cylinder and ABS module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case, but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

ABS dashboard light indicating HCU failure has come on twice: 9/10/20, replaced part and repaired system @ 39015 miles. Hill-Kelly Ram, Pensacola Fl 10/4/2022, replaced part and repaired system @ 72619 miles. Forest Ram, Forest Ms. Reported to RAM Customer Care on 9/29/2022. Case#84242447.

Additionally, when the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to stop immediately. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed as an ABS module and hydraulic control unit (HCU) failure; however, the part to do the repair was not yet available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

Electronic Braking System and Antilock Braking System is defective, similar to being described in FCA Case Number S2005000004. This issue also effects the Speed Control System

Additionally, an alarm was audible. The contact was able to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the ABS module was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the ABS module needed to be replaced; however, the part was not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and shipped the part to the dealer; however, the dealer informed the contact that there was no guarantee that the part replacement would fix the vehicle because the replacement part was the same. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE22012 (Services Brakes, Hydraulic). The failure mileage was approximately 4,000.

ABS failure caused cruise control to disengage at 75 mph with another car close behind that almost rear ended m vehicle. Also, ABS failure cases skidding in wet road conditions resulting to near contact with highway barrier.

I HAVE 2018 RAM 3500 THAT KEEPS SHOWING THE MESSAGE THAT I HAVE NO ABS OR TRACTION CONTROL. MY MAIN CONCERN IS STEERING AND BRAKES ARE THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT PARTS OF CONTROL AND THAT THEY ARE COMPROMISED BY FAULTY PARTS THAT YOU CANT REPLACE BECAUSE OF BACK ORDERS AND ON TOP OF THAT WHEN YOU REPLACE THEM THERE IS A CHANCE THAT THEY GO BAD AGAIN ACCORDING TO ALL THE PROBLEMS I HAVE BEEN READING ON FORUMS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED.WE PAY ENTIRELY TO MUCH MONEY FOR A TRUCK THAT HAVE INFERIOR BRAKE PARTS!!!!!!!

The contact was able to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the ABS module had failed and needed to be replaced. The part was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred approximately 2 years later. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the part was on back order and would not be available until June 2023. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact the dealer for additional diagnostic tests. The failure mileage was approximately 23,715.

Experienced a failure of the ABS Control Module and Electronic Traction Control during a light snow storm in September of 2022. Dash warning lights come on and go off intermittently. When warning lights come on and cruise control is being used, cruise control is deactivated. Dealership confirmed ABS CPU failure on 11/17/2022. Still waiting on replacement parts and are projected to be in around 4/18/2023. Warning lights continue to come on and go off intermittently. Never know how long cruise control will work before deactivated by warning lights for ABS service light and Electronic Traction Control coming back on.
