2023 TESLA MODEL X Complaints

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to address this issue. As you may already be aware, the honk button is not centrally located on the steering wheels of Model X or S vehicles. This has led to several instances where cars backing up in parking lots have nearly collided with my vehicle because I instinctively honk to alert them. Tesla has recently redesigned the honk button, moving it to the center instead of the touch thumb button on the right side. I strongly urge Tesla to consider replacing the steering wheel to place the honk button at the center for improved safety. Thank you for your attention to this matter. The steering wheel only has a flat tiny horn button that is impossible to use in an urgent situation effectively rendering the car with no horn in higher velocity scenarios. Finding the horn button (which not only is not raised but actually not a button) while driving to honk the horn is a near impossible task. I’ve had several close calls where I couldn’t get to the horn in time. Fortunately I was able to avoid an accident. The steering wheel needs to be replaced with a horn pad or button that is immediately accessible in an urgent situation.

Issue is with Tesla Full Self Driving subscription for $199/month and is available for inspection. No warnings or symptoms were indicated. The vehicle recommended I re-enable the service every time the vehicle restarted after it was shut off. Tesla's phone support stated the following is normal expected behavior, so an inspection isn't needed: 1. Automatically changed lanes on interstate into the space occupied by another vehicle multiple times. Thankfully, crashes were avoided by attentive drivers of involved vehicles. 2. Confused "40 MPH Minimum Speed" signs for speed limit, resulting in over 30 instances were speed was drastically and suddenly reduced, without warning, every time the sign appeared. 3. Automatically changed lanes on interstate from rightmost lane to center lane despite no traffic present. This seems to be a default behavior that cannot be adjusted. 4. Disabled cruise control and lane keeping assist when driver overrode automated systems (accelerated, braked, manually adjusted steering) to avoid a crash. Kept these systems disabled as a punishment until driver parked car and restarted.

The Tesla yoke steering wheel - the placement of the horn button being a haptic button on the right side of the steering wheel poses a great safety issues when trying the horn and unable to locate it. Whether the steering is in the straight position or turning it, it is almost impossible to honk the horn in an emergency. In the past month, I almost ran over a pedestrian that did not look going into the crosswalk and I was unable to honk, and a car that made a lane change on the freeway and I couldn't locate the horn. This is a GREAT safety issue which the NHTSA should make a recall for Tesla to change the yoke to the updated design at no charge since the updated design has the horn in the midde. There is a reason Tesla did this and they should go back and retro fit the yoke with the horn button to the newer design.

The car allows you to set favorite channels and change them from the left scroll wheel on the steering yoke/wheel. It works for FM radio, but stopped working last November for XM radio. After 9 contacts with Tesla, they have not corrected the defect. In order to change the favorited channels, it requires 3 or 4 taps on the screen - which requires removing your eyes from the road for 4-6 seconds. When it works properly, tapping the scroll wheel left or right changed the channel to next or previous favorited channel. I neatry went off the road last week trying to change the XM radio to the next favorite. This did work on both my previous model Tesla sedans from 2013 until 2023. It worked on this car for several months, but stopped working in November 2023. Nine requests to Tesla for repair have have not been successful in any action.

The yoke steering wheel had multiple issues ranging from cosmetic to skipping sometimes while turning. To the best of my knowledge, based on talking to Tesla Service professionals, Tesla is aware of this problem and has internally created a document to change these yokes, but it is not doing as regularly as it should. The service staff refuses to clarify the conditions of warranty repair for this faulty part, and I suspect a major incident can happen with these Yokes failing.

Subject: Urgent ADAS Issue: UI_a114 Error in Teslas with EAP/FSD in East Oahu I'm reporting a critical, location-specific safety concern affecting Teslas with Enhanced Autopilot or Full Self-Driving in East Oahu, particularly when heading westbound. This widespread issue, known as error UI_a114, disables all Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) without warning. It impacts essential safety features, such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping, and Emergency Braking, presenting significant risks. Tesla Support in Honolulu acknowledges this as a multi-year issue among East Oahu Tesla owners with EAP/FSD, regardless of activation status. This suggests a software-related problem or environmental interaction unique to this region, necessitating urgent investigation and resolution to ensure driver and public safety. This wasn't just one incident, but many incidents since I got the car on [XXX]. The horn is not in the center of the steering wheel where it is on every other car. It is a tiny button on the steering wheel that is impossible to find if you are turning the wheel and even harder to find when someone is going into your lane and is about to hit you or when they are backing out of a space and you have no time to look for the tiny button. I've come close to getting in many accidents because of this. Tesla has since changed the steering wheel/Yoke so the horn is where it should be (in the center of the steering wheel) but they are not replacing the old dangerous ones. Seat belts in rear seats are not installed correctly. The tongue of the seatbelt does not fit into the buckle properly/ correctly. The service center was notified of this issue. A service apportionment was set up. The service technician identified that they see the problem. The car was left to be serviced and the problem to be corrected. However when we were notified that the service of complete and the car was ready to picked up, upon picking up the car there was no change. The seatbelts are the exact same way as when we dropped it off. We were told that seatbelts function as expected. Our children carseats are in those seats and we are concerned for their safety. These factors, coupled with the volume of recall notices we’ve received on the vehicle so far, give us significant pause and raise major concerns about the composition, fidelity, and safety of this Tesla Model X.

Horn is not in the center and rather a button. This makes it very hard to hit in an emergency. Please make them replace all past and new steering wheel with this issue.
