  • 2013 VOLVO S60
    - Rochester, NY

In 2023, the engine of my 2013 Volvo S60 failed completely without prior warning and the vehicle had to be scrapped. Before that, in 2022, I paid $1,500 for a full front-end suspension rebuild due to abnormal wear. These failures were later determined to be consistent with high mileage. I had purchased the vehicle in 2019 believing it had 85,125 miles, but a 2025 VINinspect report based on NMVTIS data revealed the true mileage at sale was over 137,000 — a rollback of more than 50,000 miles. The title is now branded “Not Actual Mileage” by the federal database. This odometer fraud misled me into driving a severely worn vehicle that could have posed a serious safety risk, especially once the engine failed unexpectedly. No warning lights appeared prior to failure, and the engine is no longer available for inspection as the vehicle was sold for scrap. Independent mechanics noted the level of wear was not consistent with the mileage shown at the time of purchase. I have reported this case to NHTSA, the NY DMV, FTC, Attorney General, BBB, and others

I am filing this report regarding a serious and potentially dangerous issue with my 2025 Volvo XC90 (VIN: [XXX]), purchased new on [XXX]. On [XXX], with only 4,516 miles, I experienced a sudden and unexplained drop in tire pressure while driving. I pulled over safely, replaced the flat with a temporary tire, and took it to a local tire shop. The technician informed me that the rear passenger-side rim had a severe internal crack on the inside barrel, causing an air leak. There was no visible damage to the tire, no pothole impact, no curb hit—only a clean break in the rim, which suggests a possible structural or manufacturing defect. I immediately brought the car to the original dealership (Volvo Cars Clear Lake in Friendswood, TX), where Service Advisor Jared Black dismissed my concern and refused to cover the repair under warranty, claiming the rim must have hit a rock. I disagreed and requested documentation of this finding, but Mr. Black initially refused to provide the inspection report. After persistent arguing and a 5-hour wait at the service center, I was finally given a report showing a $2,338.99 wheel replacement recommendation, not covered by warranty. I bought a Volvo for its safety reputation, but this rim cracked under normal driving conditions and low mileage. A failure like this at highway speeds could have been catastrophic. I believe this warrants an official safety investigation to determine whether other 2025 Volvo XC90 rims may be at risk of similar failure. Please investigate. I have documentation available and am willing to provide additional information. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My car kept getting a light for its coolant levels despite me filling it with proper coolant-I noticed a leak of coolant on the ground & upon getting it inspected from an independent service center, they told me the issue was my radiator so we got the part to fix it and a week later fixed the radiator and I didn’t get the light for coolant again. Although the independent service center told me that i actually had a fuel leakage due to my pump and described the issues I’ve been having with my car for a few months as signs to what problems this is causing, this meaning a funky fuel smell, my car struggling to fully turn on-needing multiple tries to actually fully turn on etc. this puts my safety at risk because fuel leakage is extremely dangerous for multiple reasons. Not inspected by manufacturer police or insurance reps. Other than the coolant light issue and the noticed continued leak after the coolant leakage was fixed. After looking into this issue online I found a recall notice from VOLVO and called them and they claimed my car wasn’t on this recall notice but my year and model is indeed listed and since im having the same problem as the recall listed its concerning me.

Brake failure. I was slowing to stop at traffic light when “brake failure” warning came on. I then stepped on the brake and it was not working. I turned on a side street just bf the traffic light and coasted to a stop amd turned car off. Airbag not operative light came on and seatbelts were tightening then loosening. I could have hit cars stopped at the light.

I reported this issue last year when my car was just barely outside of the extended service plan agreement we had on the car. I had called the dealership with similar issues as well way before hand. My infotainment system which controls all and I mean all of the safety features I paid/am still paying for no longer works. It’s a known issue with Volvo they know and so do other mechanics. Prior to this my instrument panel completely blanked out:went black for a minute while driving. Thankfully the car never shut off but I called them they said see if it happens again and that was that. I only really have my blindspot indicators working everything else doesn’t. With that I lost access to my back up camera, and proximity sensors

Camera intermittently stops working with "Camera temporarily unavailable" message. This last a day or two and then it "fixes itself". This is a safety issue that MUST be fixed, Volvo has known about this for years and has done nothing to fix it.

Hi, I have a 2022 Volvo XC40 Recharge (Full Electric) I and EVERYONE else has had issues with the back-up camera flickering and going out completely and giving a "Camera Not Available" message on the screen in the car. Volvo has said a few times they have a fix for this issue. And the latest vehicle OS update 3 5.24 which I had installed at the dealer last week said they fixed the issue. They have NOT. I am still getting the message and no camera. This is not an isolated issue. I am member of a Volvo XC40 recharge forum and this issue is on all cars. It's a software issue. Its very dangerous to start backing up with the camera on and then all of a sudden it goes out. Vechile is consuming oil rapidly, Warning light comes on says that the vehicle is unsafe to drive. We had an oil consumption test at the Franklin TN Volvo dealership and it failed. There is also a quality bulletin issued by Volvo and extended warranty to 100K miles or 8 years, we fall outside the years. The warning lights started coming on around 78K miles. This is a know vechile manufacturing defect and feels unsafe to drive and expensive maintain and repair (10K) estimate from dealer.
