2024 VOLVO XC90- Deer Park, NY
On or about July 6, 2026, I observed water entering the passenger compartment of my 2024 Volvo XC90 at the right rear interior quarter trim panel, visible on opening the tailgate. I reported this to Volvo Car USA Customer Care by telephone the same day and was told the vehicle would need to be brought to an authorized dealer. On July 29, 2026, while I was driving the vehicle on a highway, water dripped from the overhead panel above the rearview mirror, surrounding the interior lights, onto me. After parking, I inspected the vehicle and found, the same day, water again entering at the right rear interior quarter trim panel and, on removing the cargo floor panel, standing water in the spare wheel well together with wet carpet on the cargo floor panel and wet carpet backing and insulation. Water is entering the vehicle at more than one location. I am concerned about water reaching electrical components, including the battery and fuse box compartments located in the cargo area, and about mold in the carpet and insulation. The vehicle has approximately 31,151 miles and was purchased as a Volvo Certified Pre-Owned vehicle in September 2025. It is scheduled for service at an authorized Volvo dealer on July 31, 2026. I have photographs and video of these conditions.

2026 VOLVO EX40- Beverly Hills , CA
I was driving on the freeway in traffic, thankfully going about +/- 25 mph and had to stop/slow down. When I tapped the breaks, they completely failed. All warning lights in the car immediately came on including the warning 'Stop Safely Break Failure'. I pressed the breaks as hard as a I could and pulled off the shoulder to slow the car and not rear-end someone. When the car finally came to stop I drove 5 mph off freeway on shoulder using the emergency break, terrified I would hit another car or person. I made it to a parking lot but could not put the car in park- it was then stuck in neutral, could not be put into drive or reverse, and all the warning lights still flickered on/off...the air conditioning could not be shut off and windows would not roll down.

Volvo 2025 XC60 T8. Rear liftgate closed without request nearly causing an eye injury. The liftgate was open, I was moving back and forth emptying packages from the cargo area. I turned to return to the car and the liftgate had started to come down (unrequested. I had NOT pushed the physical button on the liftgate or on the key fob). My eye was within 2 in of hitting the corner of the liftgate. I am taking the car to the dealer to report the incident. I do not see any active recalls posted for this safety issue.

2025 VOLVO EX90- Freeland, WA
This vehicle locks itself even with a fully charged key tag inside it. The driver is not able to open the car by lifting any of the door handles. It has occurred 3 separate times. It will only open with a key card. Should the driver not have a key card outside of the vehicle, it must be towed to the dealership for service. The dealer has been advised of the problem, although the service department is unable to identify why or how this occurs. This has happened at various times of the day, including late at night, and we reside in a rural area with very limited alternate transportation. No warning messages appear prior to the problem.

2023 VOLVO XC40- SARASOTA, FL
The car speeds up from 30mph around a curve when the adaptive speed control loses sight of the vehicle ahead of me. A speed of 55mph on the curve posted at 30mph is dangerous. The dealer says “oh just turn off the crisis control by tapping the brake.” This is true but could be too late, since the car has already increased its speed on the curve. Volvo is unresponsive.

The contact owns a 2023 Volvo V60CC. The contact stated that while driving approximately 52 MPH, the vehicle drove over a small bump on the road, causing the front driver’s side seat belt to tighten and pull the contact closer to the seat by the neck after locking. The contact stated that the seat belt left a bruise on the neck after several seconds when the vehicle returned to normal operation. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken back to the residence. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.

2020 VOLVO XC90- Phoenix, AZ
My 2020 Volvo XC90 T8 plug-in hybrid has been out of service for 78+ days due to a hybrid battery defect covered under an active manufacturer warranty (Claim Type XXX, valid through XXX). The vehicle was towed to Volvo Cars Arrowhead (Glendale, AZ) on XXX after a hybrid battery failure. The dealer confirmed in writing on XXX that multiple hybrid components require replacement and that parts are on extended backorder, and that Volvo Cars USA had authorized a rental vehicle because a loaner could not be offered "for an indefinite period of time." On approximately XXX, my service advisor advised me by phone that more than 700 vehicles nationally are waiting on the same backordered part and that the repair has no estimated completion date. I sent a formal written demand to Volvo Car USA ([XXX]) on XXX requesting repair by a firm date, a replacement vehicle, or repurchase. Volvo did not respond within the stated 14-day deadline or at any point thereafter. The defect appears related to NHTSA's existing recall action on 2020–2022 Volvo plug-in hybrid vehicles for high-voltage battery thermal runaway risk. I am filing this complaint to add to the federal record on this recall and to document Volvo's failure to repair an affected vehicle within a reasonable time or provide any remedy despite formal demand. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

2017 VOLVO XC60- Chicago, IL
Pulling into a gas station, a turtle warning light (limp mode) came on in the dash, and the car started moving very slowly. Moments later the engine was on fire. Basically the entire front end of the car melted away before the fire department in New Buffalo, Mich., could put it out.

2026 VOLVO EX90- Centennial, CO
Overall, we've been very happy with the EX90, but it's clear the vehicle is in desperate need of a comprehensive software update from Volvo. The issues we're experiencing don't appear to be hardware failures so much as recurring software-related problems. We've received intermittent propulsion system warnings, headlight system warnings, delayed accelerator response at times, and general electrical system sluggishness. The infotainment system can be slow to respond, and various vehicle functions occasionally lag or behave inconsistently before returning to normal. While none of these issues have left the vehicle undrivable, the frequency of the warnings and the overall lack of responsiveness make it feel like the software isn't fully matured. We also brought the vehicle to our local Volvo dealership in hopes of resolving these concerns. The dealership kept the vehicle for approximately four days but was unable to identify a hardware issue or implement a solution. Throughout that time, we were informed they were waiting on guidance from Volvo before proceeding. That experience reinforced our impression that these concerns are software-related and will ultimately require an update from Volvo rather than a repair performed by the dealership. We're hoping Volvo has a comprehensive software update in development that addresses these recurring warnings, improves system responsiveness, and enhances the overall stability of the vehicle's electronic systems.

2025 VOLVO XC40- Prospect, CT
Mild hybrid vehicle that was purchased 4/20/2026. Volvo service states incident on 06/10/2026 was caused by vehicle running overnight in enclosed garage. Volvo also states that cause was due to item inserted into drivers seatbelt buckle. No warnings posted regarding this would cause the vehicle to turn on once car was parked and driver door shut and run continuously throughout the night in an enclosed garage. Volvo claims every time the driver door is opened, it shuts the engine off. This is not true! And this situation proves that. Vehicle still currently at dealers to be repaired so unsure if components are available for inspection. Components damaged are: Midvoltage battery, midvoltage Converter module, starter generator module, 12v battery. The vehicle became extremely hot and would have caught on fire had our smoke/co detector not gone off. CO was detected in house and garage. Volvo refusing to take any accountability for this situation and refusing to provide me the documentation for the findings of my vehicle.
