2005 YAMAHA XVS1100- Carmichael, CA
Mid shaft broke at the nut that hold the yoke on the mid shaft. This can cause the rear wheel to lock up and cause loss of control. The issue has not been inspected by the manufacturer or police but after Google search I discovered it is a common issue and when removing the speed sensor and locking inside you can clearly see the shaft is broken off at the nut

2023 YAMAHA MT-09- Saint louis, MO
The front brake lever brake light switch is supposed to illuminate the brake light just before braking is applied (according to manufacturer’s manual). I realized when I was sitting on the motorcycle in my driveway, with the front brake holding the motorcycle, that the brake light wasn’t illuminated. As I began to test it I realized I was able to have the bike come to a complete stop without the brake light illuminating when using only the front brake lever. The motorcycle was purchased brand new and braking system has not been modified. I only had 300 miles on vehicle when this was discovered. I brought it to a Yamaha dealer as suggested in the manual if the light is not illuminating before braking pressure had been applied. The service mechanic at Donnelson Cycles in St Louis MO stated that this braking switch could not be adjusted. I searched for recalls and could not find any. This could cause a major hazard for someone especially if they are stopped using the front brake lever and the vehicle behind them does not know they are stopped or slowing.

2022 YAMAHA XTZ690- Albuquerque , NM
With the brand new motorcycle stored in the garage, the garage is full of fuel fumes coming from fuel evaporating from the fuel cap. Also, if the motorcycle drops to one side and the fuel tank is full, the fuel starts pouring out from the fuel cap. This can cause a fire or soak in fuel the equipment attached to the motorcycle. This is a hazard. Yamaha must redesign the leaky fuel cap seal and issue a recall.

2012 YAMAHA XT1200Z- Hattiesburg, MS
The ABS pump has failed nearly causing a life threatening incident. This is a known issue with ABS systems on the 2012 and 2013 Yamaha XTZ1200 which are classified as Generation 1 machines. This problem was addressed and apparently remedied on the 2014 - 2023 model bikes comprising Generation 2 machines. Yamaha needs to address this issue and recall every 2012 & 2013 XTZ1200 for ABS pump replacement .

2004 YAMAHA FZ6- Modesto, CA
Front drive shaft, chain sprocket ‘Nut/lock washer’ has came loose and fell off on the highway. Could have locked the chain around the wheel and cause a major crash, also could have severely damaged the engine casing. It damaged the rear swing arm and a piece piece near the stater. I replaced the nut & locking washer tab, exact replacement only To have the same issue just I didn’t allow it to spin off since I was aware of this happening. I replaced the second one with a different style but same locking washer tab same issue it comes loose within 8 to 10miles. The nut is torqued to spec as stated by Yamaha. Iv reached out to several places including Yamaha and cannot seem to find a solution. Iv joined motorcycle forums and read people with same issue I’m having and wow am I lucky one. But they have had replacement parts and labor performed because of a safety recall of the issue. Why can I not get this resolved I have no clue what els to do.!! Please help

2021 YAMAHA ZUMA 125- Seattle , WA
The 2021 Yamaha Zuma 125 is a fuel injected motorcycle/scooter which can achieve 65 miles per hour and boasts a passenger/load capacity of over 500 lbs. During routine maintenance I found cracks in the front seat support structure, where the seat support is welded to the frame. These cracks are on both sides of the front seat support and are a result of metal fatigue. The steel seat support structures are thin, 16 gauge steel and not well designed to support even a 200lbs passenger. This seat support structure can break without warning causing the driver to lose control and result in a crash. Because the seat support structure is so small, failure may cause the driver can also to fall off the motorcycle into the roadway and die from being hit by a passing car. This vehicle has not been inspected by anyone other than myself.

2012 YAMAHA FJR1300- Cathedral City, CA
I was riding the motorcycle during daylight hours, and I noticed some glitchy electrical behavior. The turn signal indicators were dimly lit, turn signals themselves were inoperative, horn inoperative, windshield vertical adjustment inoperative, etc. The important part was that both headlights were inoperative, which would be a huge problem if I was riding during nighttime hours. The engine continued to operate normally and I rode the bike home. The symptoms indicated a failed grounding connector. I removed the left side fairing and located a ground connector under the glove box/storage compartment that had scorch/burn marks on it. I cleaned the connector and applied conductive grease to prevent future corrosion. Problem solved…all electrical components worked normally. There was a previous NHTSA campaign for 2006-2009 FJR1300 models, 11V-338, that addressed a failed grounding connector. This bike is a 2012 model which was not addressed by the earlier campaign, and my failed grounding connector was a different one than was addressed by the campaign. I’ll attach a photo of my failed connector as well as a schematic of the ground connectors. The schematic is not an official Yamaha drawing, but from a group of FJR owners that have been working to solve the grounding problems. The original campaign addressed only the “S4” connector located under the fuel tank near the coolant thermostat on the forward left-hand side of the engine valve cover. My failed component was the “S6” connector located under the glove box/storage compartment. I located all 8 ground connectors on my bike, cleaned them and applied conductive grease to each one to hopefully avoid any future electrical problems. Yamaha needs to come up with a fix for the “S6” connector. If a rider is out riding at night and that connector fails, and the headlights suddenly go out…it could be very difficult to keep the bike on the road and avoid a crash.

2012 YAMAHA XTZ12- Indianapolis, IN
The ABS module on the Super Tenere is known to fail in such a way as to leave the rear brake inoperable (the brake pedal can be bottomed out without any resistance and without applying any pressure to the rear caliper). This happened on my 2012 Super Tenere, and has been discussed considerably among multiple other Super Tenere owners who have experienced the same failure. This is a significant safety risk, as any ABS module failure should fail in such a way as to leave both front and rear brake operable. It is believed amongst Super Tenere owners that the failure occurs largely due to the Unified Braking System (a subsystem contained within the ABS module which applies rear brake when the front brake is applied). It is believed that moisture penetrates the system through a vent hole, causes corrosion on moving internals, and damaged seals and corroded pistons allow air to be sucked into the system. Pictures of the corroded internals of a failed unit can be provided upon request.

2023 YAMAHA TW200- Las Vegas, NV
My son purchased a brand new 2023 Yamaha TW200 from Ridenow Powersports on Rancho in Las Vegas. On his ride home he discovered numerous safety discrepancies with the motorcycle which could have ended with catistrophic results. First he noticed the gears were not properly engaging during shifts but found that pushing clutch lever forward after shifting corrected problem. The left side rearview mirror also fell down from upright mounting position. A motorist who was following him let him know that everytime he made a turn his rear indicator light was flashing in the opposite direction. Upon return to his residence he noticed that right front daytime running light (incorporated in front indicator lamps) was inoperative. He also confirmed that when he switched indicator to left, the right rear would flash and vise versa. He contacted dealer to report findings and they said they would call back in a few minutes to schedule a date to repair ... they never called back. We decided to truck his motorcycle back to my house so I can figure out what is wrong instead of dealing with Ridenow on Rancho maintenance that have extremely low ratings and obviously don't know what they're doing. I am not familiar with un-crating and bike build-up so I have no idea what is factory or dealerships responsibility. For the gearbox issue I found the clutch torsion spring improperly connected to actuating arm (this appears to be a factory issue as reported on forums) Clutch cable freeplay was also way out of specifications. I also found that the right front and right rear turn signal indicator assemblies were in the wrong position. The double filiment assembly was located in rear and single filiment assembly was up front, hence why right front daytime running light inoperative. Furthermore two wires in lighting assembly harness were cross connected causing opposite indications compared to switch position. I also found battery hold down strap and battery vent tube not connected.

2018 YAMAHA XV1900- Pollock Pines, CA
Manufacturer issued recall number 20V814000 in January 2021. Through telephone calls with repair dealer, I was told they did not have parts available. In April 2022, I visited repair dealer to have recall performed. Was told no part available. I have been waiting for more than six months for replacement part, repair dealer has provided numerous estimated arrival times for part; however, the part still has not arrived. I am told the vehicle is unsafe to ride; however, the manufacturer has failed to provide a replacement part for almost two years.
