BRIDGESTONE TIRES Complaints

My new 2022 Jeep Wrangler was shipped with 20 inch Bridgestone Dueller tires. These tires caused severe front end shake and vibration to the point of losing control of my vehicle at approx 60 MPH on several occasions. I brought my Jeep to the Dealer where it was purchased and was told this was a known problem with these tires.Further I was told the ONLY solution was to replace the factory tires with Wrangler KO2’s or another similar tire with more than 4 ply tires like the Dueller. The dealer said Jeep knows it is a problem but would not pay to solve the problem. These new tires were installed and the problem was resolved and cost nearly $1,700. Jeep blames Bridgestone yet it is a known problem and new Jeeps are still being sold with these tires. Jeep factory wrote it was my problem. I have an email from them telling me these details.

The contact stated the tires were not installed on the vehicle; however, while inflating the tires, the tire exploded. The contact sustained injuries to his face, right arm, and right hand, and received medical attention. The contact was unaware if a police report was filed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Highlander. The contact received a notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 22T021000 (Tires). The Toyota dealer was initially notified of the failure and referred her to the Bridgestone manufacturer for assistance. The tire manufacturer referred her to a Bridgestone service center; however, she was informed that the tire needed for repair was on backorder. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the repair. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

The contact owns a 2018 Nissan Rogue equipped with Bridgestone Tires, Tire Line: Ecopia, Tire Size: 225/45/R19, DOT Number: H4ECKK4157. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer, and while the mechanic was inspecting the tires, the mechanic became aware that all 4 tires had visible cracks. The contact was unsure if the tires were original equipment or replacement. The tires were not replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The tire failure mileage was unknown. The vehicle failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

We purchased our Jeep brand new in January 2021. Tire Details: Bridgestone Dueler A/T, Size 255/70R18, Load Index: 133T, Speed Rating: M+S, DOT/Tire ID#: 93XJ RHF 4820. In November 2022, we experienced a catastrophic sidewall blowout of the passenger side front tire while driving 75-80 mph in the high speed lane on I-75. We were instantly warned by the dashboard automatic tire pressure monitoring system. The tire pressure dropped from normal to zero in a matter of 100 yards. This warning saved our lives. To this day, I still don’t know how we got the Jeep safely over to the emergency lane on the right side of I-75 during high traffic. Key point to note – we only had approximately 30,000 miles on our tires at the time of the incident. We called Florida’s Road Rangers who put our spare tire on the vehicle. When we got to our destination, we took it to the Okeechobee Jeep Dealer. The Service Manager and Mechanic both said they had never seen a sidewall blown out like this tire. They recommended we contact Bridgestone to notify them of a safety complaint and possible monetary credit. At their recommendation we took detailed pictures of the blown tire. The Dealer pitched the blown tire as we had a car full of luggage. We purchased a new Bridgestone tire from this Jeep Dealer at that time as we did not want to ride around with no spare. We were not sure of the integrity of the remaining 3 tires. We contacted Bridgestone, Ref # 1387342. After talking to a series of Reps, they seemed indifferent about this unsafe event and said they could do nothing on the tire warranty since we did not go to an authorized Bridgestone dealer. A Rep said if we had the original tire they would warranty it, but the pictures would not suffice! I came away with the sense that Bridgestone does not have any concern about their tire safety. They never asked for the pictures or the DOT/Tire Identification number. They did not stand behind their tires from a warranty aspect.

Bridgestone 235/55 R18. I was driving in the far left Lane on the interstate going 65mph. The tire pressure warning came on. The vehicle seemed too shaky to continue on. I attempted to merge right to get off on the next exit and the vehicle began to shake violently. Before I could exit safely the tire shredded with several loud pops in the 3rd lane of traffic before I was able to merge to the exit. I had to stop on the side of the interstate. I was strong enough to keep control of the vehicle by gripping the steering wheel. The safety of myself and my children were in grave danger traveling on a busy interstate. No cops were called since there was no wreck. This 2020 Lexus NX 300 was a rental from AVIS RENTAL CAR at DFW Airport. This vehicle will be returned to Avis 1/12/23

Costco installed 4 tires on my 2012 Toyota Sienna on 11/10/2021. The tire had 80,000 mile warranty. At the time of Tire installation, the mileage on my vehicle was 253,405. I did my tire rotations every 5000 mile at Suburban Toyota in Farmington Hills. I took the vehicle for tire rotation at 283,618 miles and the dealership refused to rotate the tires because the tread was below 3/32 seconds. I thought that this was a mistake and went again to rotate the tires at 288,789 miles. I went to Costco on the same day and told Costco representative at the counter [XXX] that the tire needs to replaced under warranty. I informed him that I drove only 30,000 mile on the tires. He checked all my mileage papers when I did the tire rotations. He went inside and talked to [XXX] (Tire section manager) and told me that the tire need to be under 2/32 seconds for Michelin Warranty to work. I asked him to arrange a tire rotation and scheduled the tire rotation on 12/20/2022. I took the vehicle to Costco on 12/20/2022. The mechanic called me after 30 minutes and informed me that the tire tread is under 2/32 second and cannot be rotated. I talked to [XXX] about it and he went to talk to [XXX]. He told me that the mechanic is going to rotate the tires and I can come back after one month to check the tires again. I informed [XXX] that he, Costco, and Michelin are playing with the safety of my family. He told me that Costco is not concerned about the safety of my family. If I am concerned about the safety of my family, I should change the tires without the warranty. I believe that Costco and Michelin are installing 30,000 mile tires as 80,000 mile warranty tires. I drive most of my driving on the freeway and on cruise control. So there should not be any issue with my driving. I got tires from Discount Tire Company before and had no issue like this. The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Highlander equipped with Bridgestone Tires, Tire line: Alenza Sport, Tire Size: 235/55/R20, DOT Number: 1W28AALA15019. The contact stated that the four tires cracked, due to a discrepancy between the stated weight capacity for the tires and the gross vehicle weight. The contact discovered the failure upon inspection of the vehicle and immediately stopped driving the vehicle. An independent mechanic was notified of the failure. The tire manufacturer was also notified of the failure, and the contact was provided a case number. The vehicle had was not repaired. The tire and vehicle failure mileage were approximately 20,000. The contact stated that their wife drove the vehicle majority of the time on local roads. The contact also expressed fears of the vehicle's tires not being able to support the weight of 7 passengers or being able to tow a boat.

2023 Lexus ES300h with 1360 miles had rear passenger side tire blowout which ripped off the fender liner although fender liner ripped off first and flew off of car and less than two minutes later the TPMS alerted driver of low tire pressure. Tire is a Bridgestone Turanza EL440 235/45R18 94V. No foreign body was hit to cause this blowout. Happened at a speed of about 35 - 40 mph while accelerating. Driver inspected bolts and nuts on driver rear side to prevent this from repeating on the unaffected side and found nuts were not hand tightened completely. Walmart Tire Center and Discount Tire found a slash on interior side wall of tire. Lexus dealer did not honor warranty for tire or fender liner. Driver had to pay out of pocket for repair.

Tire blew out, the outer sidewall completely came apart at the seams. There was no external pressure and there are less than 5,000 miles on the car. The PSI was at 35 as per the manufacturers spec.
