MICHELIN LATITUDE TOUR TIRES Complaints

On September 18, 2025, while driving at ~65–70 mph on the Saw Mill Parkway in Mount Kisco, NY, a Michelin Latitude Tour HP tire (235/55R19) suffered a sudden circumferential tread/belt separation. The tread detached completely from the casing while the sidewall remained intact. A small screw was present in the center tread, but there was no TPMS warning or gradual pressure loss prior to the failure. This behavior is inconsistent with ordinary puncture damage and indicates a potential workmanship/materials defect. The separated tread, tire carcass, and wheel are preserved and available for inspection. The tires were installed by the dealer (Audi New Rochelle) on June 12, 2024, as part of Certified Pre-Owned reconditioning before sale. This catastrophic failure posed an immediate risk of serious crash. Tire Size: 235/55R19

Purchased my 2013 Chevy Equinox from certified Chevrolet dealer in 2023. All 4 of my tires are: Michelin Latitude Tour M+S (Radial X Green), P235/55 R18. DOT M33J 007X 3012. These are the same tires that were on my SUV at time of purchase & are still on it. Upon purchasing from the dealership, the tires appeared somewhat cracked around the outside walls & where the tread meets the tires. Not being sure how to read all info on tires, I only went by the thickness of the tread, which was great & I didn't question the cracks too much. In the fall of 2024, took my SUV in to have the oil & filters changed, tires rotated, etc, as yearly maintenance. Was made aware at that time by the mechanic that the tread & side walls on the Michelin P235/55 R18 were becoming deeply cracked & I should plan on looking to replace the tires for safety reasons as soon as possible. I don't do a lot of driving, except for around town, so I figured I'll replace them sometime within the next year. I'm now in "the next year". It's 2025 & I've noticed over the last 4-5 months, I am losing air frequently from all the tires & am making biweekly trips to the gas station air pumps. In the past 2-3 months the cracks have increased significantly & now I'm afraid to fill to the recommended air pressure. I think these tires are quite dangerous in the way they seem to be breaking apart. My plan is to get them replaced as soon as I'm financially able. My SUV, only had about 36,000 miles on it when I bought it in 2023. Now it only has 42,000. I don't understand how these tires could be in such bad condition with such awesome, thick tread. I've found an awful lot of complaints re: these specific Michelin Latitude Tour Tires breaking/splitting apart. I don't understand why these specific tires haven't been recalled. There's an incredible danger in driving with these faulty tires. I'm surprised there's been no reported accidents. I'm now afraid to drive much at all, until I can get them replaced.

The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Sequoia equipped with Michelin Tires, Tire Line: Latitude Tour, Tire Size: P265/70/R16, DOT Number: APJ6001X1814. The contact stated he was informed at a State Inspection that the vehicle had failed the inspection because there was a large crack in the tread of all four tires. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 13T006000 (Tires); however, the tire size was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the tires were not covered. The tires were replacement tires. The tires were not replaced. The tire failure mileage was approximately 33,000. The vehicle failure mileage was approximately 117,000.

The contact owns a 2018 Cadillac XT5 equipped with Michelin Tires, Tire Line: Touring H/T, Tire Size: 235/55/R20, DOT Number: B9AJ00TX2017. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 35 MPH, the rear driver's side tire had a sidewall blowout. The contact's wife was able to drive to a tire dealer. The dealer replaced all four tires. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the tires were not covered under warranty. The failure mileage was unavailable.

Michelin latitude tour HP i-225/65r17 I am writing to you in order to let you know that I bought this used Toyota Rav4 2018 with 28,000 miles. I was told that the tires were new. One of the tires was not new and had already been fixed before, certainly not in a safe way. I just want you to know and report it to Toyota, I would have appreciated them if they had told me the truth since in that car I ride my daughters. Happy afternoon.

WHILE THE CONTACT'S WIFE WAS DRIVING 60 MPH, SHE HEARD AN ABNORMAL POPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE. AFTERWARDS, THE TIRE EXPLODED. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO VEER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND REPLACED THE TIRE WITH A SPARE. THE TIRE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THERE WERE NO DAMAGES TO THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 57,410. THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

WHILE THE CONTACT WAS WASHING THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT THE TIRE THREADS WERE SEPARATING WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BELLE TIRE (39999 VAN DYKE AVE, STERLING HEIGHTS, MI 48313, (586) 541-1130) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIRES HAD PREMATURE WEAR AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED. THE TIRE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,000 AND THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.

MICHELIN LATITUDE TOUR HP 235/50R18 TIRES ON 2011 BUICK REGAL. TIRES REPLACED NOVEMBER 2014 AND WORE DOWN TO 4/32 TREAD ON DEC 19,2016. TIRE WAS RATED FOR 55,000 MILE WEAR. LACK OF TREAD CONTRIBUTED TO ACCIDENT ON THAT DATE. CAR WAS UNABLE TO STOP, SLIDING INTO THE CURB CAUSING $4200 IN DAMAGE EVEN THOUGH ACCIDENT WAS AT LOW SPEED. MICHELIN WILL NOT REPLACE TIRES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CADILLAC SRX EQUIPPED WITH MICHELIN LATITUDE TOUR TIRES, SIZE: 235/6518 (NA). WHILE THE TIRES WERE BEING ROTATED, THE TECHNICIAN SUGGESTED HAVING THEM INSPECTED BY A QUALIFIED MICHELIN TECHNICIAN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MICHELIN DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES SHOWED SIGNS OF ROTTING AND CRACKING IN THE TREADS. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE TIRE AND VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,814. THE DOT NUMBER WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

I BOUGHT A GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED WITH MICHELIN LATITUDE TOUR TIRES ON IT. AT 24,900 MILES I NOTICED A BULGE IN ONE TIRE UPON INSPECTION OF THE OTHER TIRES I HAD ANOTHER TIRE WITH A BULGE IN IT. THE VIN OF THE VEHICLE IS [XXX] THE DOT OF THE TIRES ARE AP5E 00BX 3814. I CARRIED IT TO THE JEEP DEALER AND THEY SENT ME TO A MICHELIN DEALER. THE PERSON AT THE MICHELIN JUST LOOKED AT THE TIRE AND SAID IT WAS A IMPACT BULGE AND THAT MICHELIN WOULD NOT COVER THAT ON WARRANTY. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER MICHELIN DEALER AND HE SAID HE WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THE TIRE OFF THE RIM TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. I CONTACTED MICHELIN AND THEY WERE WILLING TO HELP OUT ON THE TIRES WHETHER IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY OR NOT. THAT TELLS ME THEY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE TIRES AND THEY WANT TO KEEP IT QUITE BY TRYING TO SATISFY THE CUSTOMER SO THEY DON'T REPORT THEM. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH THESE TIRES. I WILL NOT PUT MY LIFE OR MY WIFE'S LIFE IN DANGER BECAUSE OF THESE TIRES. THESE TIRES WILL BLOW IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME. I WORKED IN A TIRE FACTORY FOR 25 YEARS AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN AN IMPACT BULGE. I HAVE CUT UP AND ANALYZED THOUSANDS OF TIRES AND NO IMPACT CAUSED THESE BULGES.
