MICHELIN PREMIER LTX TIRES Complaints

Tires installed by Lexus on Sept 27, 2022 are shredding and coming apart in chunks at 37,000 miles; tire is rated 60,000 miles. This is 56% of the projected life of the tire. Previous tires, same brand and size, only lasted 29,000 miles; 1/2 of the life of the tire. Current tires have good tread depth and life left if the chunks were not uniformly coming off of all tires. This condition leaves the tire vulnerable to road hazards and moderately sharp objects. Failure is clearly imminent. Dealer, upon inspection July 1, 2025, did suggest immediate replacement of the tires at normal retail prices. No warnings or alerts or other symptoms are present. There has been a slight loss of air pressure.

Michelin Premier LTX 235/55R20 Premature wear First set was replaced 12/11/2019 with 27,952 miles on vehicle. Complaint is the second set checked on 7/23/2023 with 49,122 miles on vehicle or 21,170 miles on tires showing premature wear measuring 6.1 to 5.9 /32nds groove depth. Tires are not going to make the 60,000 miles wear rating expected for such an expensive tire. Tires are rotated when vehicle is serviced, alignment was checked before installing new tires.

My vehicle has 22,000 miles on it. The dealer has determined that they are at 4/32 and are wearing prematurely. He also indicated that Jeep (Nielsen Jeep) is aware of this and it is simply unfortunate that all four (4) tires (Michelin Premier LTX, 265/60R18) on my vehicle wore evenly and prematurely. As I indicated to the dealership servicing my vehicle, the tires do not grip in inclement weather and often result in skids, a safety issue especially when my two 12yr olds are in the vehicle with me. Tire warranted at 55,000 miles should not wear prematurely and thus making it unsafe to operate the vehicle.

I'm recalling an incident I reported last year. GM refused to honor the service bulletin, and Palmen Buick GMC Cadillac in Kenosha, WI refused to work with Michelin. At 30,000 miles, I now hydroplane, and when I had my car serviced a few weeks before my warranty was set to expire, the dealership again refused to honor the prorate chart for the tires, and again tried to just sell me new ones. I provided a picture of one of the tires now, and you can clearly see how they have deteriorated. I IMPLORE YOU TO MAKE A FULL RECALL. GM IS CLEARLY AVOIDING THIS ISSUE, AND THEIR DEALERSHIPS WILL NOT WORK WITH MICHELIN TO CORRECT IT. Below is the original complaint. Tires are measuring low tread (4/32in) under 27,000. No pressure sensors were alarming until the blowout occurred. I have a case with Michelin, but the dealership won't contact them. I have a case with GM, but they will not honor the existing service bulletin 19-NA-078 for ANY of the tires, stating it does not appear under my VIN. I'm fortunate this event occured at low speed, but given the quality of these tires, I'm sure others have not been so lucky. I believe this to be a safety issue, not just a manufacturer defect.

235/55R20 102V Michelin Premier LTX, premature wear, tires falling apart in layers & chunks, caused premature failure of front left strut on Lexus RX350. Started at 24,000 miles. Tires create an oscillation, causing you to think a tire balance issue, no alignment issue in the onset of problem. Tire tread not wearing but appears to be melting and becoming brittle. Road weight balanced and numbers varied per location of tire original tire driver front read 14-15 pushing to close to the 20 number and giving perspective of internal or manufacturer defects or construction issue. My vehicle has been back to the Lexus maintenance shop for tire balance check, test drives, discovered left front strut was failing & replaced, alignment checked, tires checked again, then again at the shop days apart due to oscillation feeling continuing, tires road force balanced, test drive & again taken back with information of GMC bulletin for tire premature wear with an NHTSA. I’ve tracked complaints of premature wear/material failure issues from videos/reports online as well. This is a 60,000 mile tire/warranty failing at 20-25,000 miles. The tire problems only lead me to believe this could be another Firestone situation if left unchecked. It’ll impact vehicle owners & dealerships: repair & research time, money, premature vehicle component wear & repairs for allowing defective products to be allowed on US roads. Definitely not needed at this time of inflation & limited supply of replacement parts & tire products. I did contact Michelin customer service to file complaint/claim (#02983306) and informed the representative that this had been an issue for the month of June & didn’t feel it safe to have these tires on the road and also don’t want any further premature wear/failure of components to my vehicle or endanger myself or loved ones.

Advised that they have seen a situation is occurring in the same vehicle and these specific tires. Yet no recall and the replacement at the owner's expense. Same situation in the 4 tires. This is a safety issue that both te tire manufacturer and that car dealership are aware of.

My P225/60R18 two front tires are peeling in-between threads and my threads are very low compared to rear tires. I have 23,059 on the tires.

235/65R18 all 4 tires worn down after 27,000 miles, suppose to have 60,000 mile tread life. took my Acadia into the dealer for regular oil change and was informed all 4 tires were worn passed the safety margin. He told me there was a service bulletin about the tires but since my warranty had run out there was nothing he could do. He never mentioned the service warranty or that the tires were wearing severly.
