TOYO OPEN COUNTRY TIRES Complaints

Tires were purchased April 2026. Vehicle was then driven in June 2026 for off-road use, minimal usage prior to June due to mechanical issues). A structural failure occurred on 3 new truck tires (Size: 275/60R20, DOT: 0225) within 24 hours while driving under 10 MPH on a basic off-road trail. Day 1: Rear driver tire suddenly deflated with a loud thwapping sound. The tire separated from the bead and suffered a 3-4" sidewall tear. Vehicle was at 15 PSI (standard trail pressure). 10 companion trucks ran identical terrain without issue, isolating the failure to this tire batch. Swapped to spare. Day 2: Remaining tires aired up to 20 PSI to mitigate risk. Despite higher pressure and slow speeds, the exact same failure mode recurred on the replacement tire in the same rear driver location, causing another 3-4" sidewall tear. Trail patches failed. Borrowed a spare from another vehicle. 15 minutes later, a 3rd identical failure occurred on the rear passenger tire, causing a blowout and tearing on the inside sidewall. Vehicle was stranded, requiring a 2nd borrowed spare to exit. Tires had only 300 miles of total use. Failed components include the tire sidewalls and internal casing structures. All 3 failed tires are preserved and available for material inspection. Rapid, consecutive loss of multiple tires severely compromised vehicle stability, leaving me repeatedly stranded. Had these structural failures occurred at highway speeds rather than 10 MPH, a catastrophic loss of control or rollover could have occurred. The selling dealer has explicitly refused to file a warranty claim or inspect the failed casings. No prior warning lamps, pressure alerts, or symptoms occurred before the sudden, catastrophic failures.

Was driving along at approximately 25 mph and had a major sudden failure of the right rear tire

LT295/60 R20. The tread on the tire separated and a 1"x2" chunk of it fell off in the middle of the tread. Other smaller pieces of tread also fell off. Both front tires have subsequently been replaced. Smaller chunks are now missing from rear tires.

Tire size 225/65R17 On [XXX] the front tire on the passenger side blew out on [XXX] just west of the exit to [XXX] as I was driving from Warren MI to Horseheads NY. I was able to safely steer off the highway to the shoulder. A man stopped to help, he put the donut on the car and put the blown out tire in the cargo space. I have the tire in my garage. I drove off the highway a few miles to the exit for Hornell NY and called Williams Toyota in Elmira NY, they had a replacement tire in stock but couldn’t fit me into their service schedule until July 15, 2025. I had to extend my stay in Horseheads by 2 nights so in addition to the cost of mounting and balancing the new tire I had to pay for 2 extra nights at the hotel where I was staying. I bought my RAV4 from Golling Toyota in Warren MI in February of 2024, it had 9843 miles on it, the tire was original equipment, and I have had the tires rotated as required by the maintenance schedule. The contact owns a 2015 Toyota Tacoma equipped with Toyo Tires, Tire Line: Open Country A/T II, Tire Size: 265/70/R16, DOT Number: CXLJ17M2318. The contact stated that there were cracks between the treads on all four tires. The tires were replacement tires. The tires were not replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the online tire seller. The vehicle failure mileage was approximately 62,000. The tires failure mileage was 8,500. The VIN was not available.

P285/45R22 tires have defect on bubbles. No damage to tires but bubbles appear. Tires are only 6,000 miles driven.

These are Toyo Open Country P245/55 R19 tires that have been on my car from 10/23/2020 to now and have 54,600 miles on them. Remaining tire tread depth on this tire was measured using a machinists rule at 6/32" or 4.5 mm deep. The drivers front tire looked fine on my car during a general pre-inspection I did at 6:45 AM as I loaded the car with our luggage for a 7 day drive trip to Florida (app 920 miles). I will advise that I did not look at this tire in great detail during this check - just quick look to see if anything stood out that I needed to be concerned about for the drive. The drivers side front tire went flat after backing straight down a 60' long driveway. I removed the tire with the car in the street and took it to the tire shop where I bought these tires. The tire shop guys found several cracks about 1/2" long or longer in this one spot in the tire sidewall at the start of the tread. They had no idea why it cracked like that and had reported that they had not seen cracks like that in that location before in any tire. I had them pull the tire off the rim and put a plug/patch in it so I could get the car back up the driveway to repack our Florida luggage in the other car. No other tires show this cracking issue. I will replace the tires on 9/11/2023 with new tires. The tire could have blown out on I-10 at speeds of 70-75 MPH due to the almost immediate loss of air pressure due to the crack. There was absolutely no indication of any issues with this tire (or the other 3 tires) prior to backing down the driveway and the tire going flat. I was blessed that the tire lost pressure quickly just backing down the driveway and not on the Interstate highway. I drive the car - no one else. The tires have not been abused during the period they were installed. I rotate the tires every 10,000 miles. I do car PM on a 6 week schedule to avoid any such auto issues. I had just completed a PM about 1 week prior to this tire issue with all found OK.

At approximately 11:30 AM on Saturday, August 5, 2023 I was traveling northbound on I-17 just before exit number 278 for State Route 179. I felt the vehicle shake violently and my wife saw a portion of a tire rolling along the side of the road into the desert. I was able to safely pull off to the shoulder, it was then that I noticed the driver side rear tire had completely separated from the rim. There were no warnings I had recently had my 5000 mile inspection/oil change performed at Right Toyota. At the time of the incident there was approximately 5355 miles on the vehicle which was purchased new in January 2023. I was luckily able to bring the vehicle to a complete stop without incident and notified Roadside Assistance.

TOYO OPEN COUNTRY XTREAM AT2 - LT 275 / 85 R 17 LOAD RANGE E. BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT TIRES SUFFERED TREAD SEPARATION WITHIN 1000 MILES OF EACH OTHER. TIRE ARE NEARING THE END OF LIFE WITH APPROX 7500 MILES REMAINING UNTIL THEY MUST BE REPLACED. TREAD WEAR INDICATORS ARE STILL BELOW THE TREAD ON THE TIRES. TIRES ARE RUN AT PROPER INFLATION PRESSURE ON HEAVY DUTY PICKUP AT 75 PSI. NO DAMAGE TO VEHICLE AS BECAUSE I NOTICED BOTH TIRES BEING OUT OF ROUND BEFORE THEY FAILED.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-350 equipped with Toyo Tires, Tire Line: Open Country AT II, Tire Size: LT295/65/R20, DOT Number: 73D9M7L2017. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH and towing a fifth-wheel trailer, he noticed the vehicle was unbalanced on the rear driver’s side. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to park at a nearby parking lot and noticed a 4-inch blister on the side of the rear driver’s side tire. The contact replaced the tire with a spare tire and continued driving to his destination. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was determined that all four tires needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer of the tire had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 91,797.
