2014 BMW 535D Complaints

Timing chain failed and caused the vehicle's engine to shut down. This failure occurred while driving at approximately 70 MPH on Rt. 90 in NY state. The car was traveling in the passing lane. The loss of engine power resulted in loss of steering and maneuverability placing the occupants of this vehicle and other vehicles in a very dangerous situation. Vehicle was towed to a BMW dealership in NY, and upon inspection by BMW technicians, concluded the timing chain failure led to the engine failure and shutting down. There was no warning or any indications of the problem prior to it occurring.

At 65000 miles, the SCR DEF active tank sensor went out. The dealership service department at Roadshow BMW in Memphis said this has become pretty common with BMW vehicles equipped with Diesel engines. The part is $2000 dollars and does not include the labor costs to install ($1335).

My 2014 BMW 535d has barely over 60k miles. Two weeks ago, I received a warning message after turning on the ignition stating that no diesel exhause fluid could be detected. In addition, the message include a mileage countdown starting a slightly over 800 miles. I took the car to Roadshow BMW in Memphis, Tennessee to be repaired. They are telling me that the DEF sensor will have to be replaced. In addition, they said the DEF reservoir will need to be exchanged. The cost for this repair will be approximately $3,352 dollars plus tax. The technician I spoke with said that this is a common issue with BMW's.

The contact owns a 2014 BMW 535D. The contact stated while driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled with the power train failure message displayed. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V586000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic with needing the high-pressure fuel pump replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 91,000.

Don't have an accurate answer as to what component failed, but all indicators point to the EGR/AGR flap valve failing. Smoke was coming out of the front end of the Intake manifold, after careful visual inspection I noticed a hole was made from the internal fire melting the plastic intake. This could've been a lot worse and the car could have burned. Thank God I reacted quickly and pulled into a non crowded area away from the road and turned the car off.

THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 BMW 535D. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, DRIVESHAFT DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BMW OF MILWAUKEE NORTH (5990 N. GREEN BAY AVE, GLENDALE, WI 53209, (414) 290-4200) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE U-JOINT, TRANSMISSION, DRIVE SHAFT, TRANSFER CASE, PROPELLER SHAFT, UNDERBODY PLATE AND SHIELD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V185000 (POWER TRAIN) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 103,000.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT AROUND 65-70MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY SUNROOF EXPLODED INTO THE VEHICLE ALL OVER ME. I SWERVED AS A RESULT OF THE SHOCK BUT THANKFULLY WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE BEFORE HITTING ANYONE. I WAS THANKFULLY IN THE VEHICLE ALONE AND SUFFERED CUTS TO MY FACE AND SCALP. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF ANY CRACKS ON THE SUNROOF AND THERE WAS NO FOREIGN BODY IMPACT NOTED. GLASS FLEW INTO THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS GOUGING THE ROOF AND AND TRUNK OF THE VEHICLE WITH GLASS SHARDS.

2014 BMW 535. CONSUMER STATED THAT BMW FAILED TO PERFORM NHTSA'S SAFETY RECALL 18V-755 IN A TIMELY MANNER. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE BEING DRIVEN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED PRIOR TO THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. *JS

MESSAGE COMES ON THE CONSOLE INDICATING DRIVETRAIN FAULT AND ABOUT 2 SECONDS LATER LOOSES ALL ENGINE POWER WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY. WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER AS THE TRAFFIC WAS VERY LIMITED ON THE ROAD. DIAGNOSIS BY BMW REPAIR SHOP IS THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAS FAILED. *TR

2014 BMW 535D. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO SAFETY RECALL 18V-755. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE PART NECESSARY TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS UNAVAILABLE. AT THE END OF JANUARY, THE CONSUMER NOTICED AN ABNORMAL NOISE AND REDUCTION OF POWER. THE VEHICLE STALLED IN HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC. THE CONSUMER WAITED 30 MINUTES BEFORE BEING RESCUED FROM THE TRAFFIC BY POLICE. THE DEALER CHARGED THE CONSUMER FOR THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT, DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. *JS
