2023 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 Complaints

Engine failed and was replaced at 38k. Transmission shudders, have been back to dealership multiple times for transmission shudder, have been told it was tires, torque converter, and valve body. When those items didn’t fix the issue, I was told it was the engine dfm and that it was normal and not a problem, AFTER they had already acknowledged the transmission issue by trying to fix it with a torque converter and valve body. Engine failed again at 54,604 miles while at high way speeds in rush hour like traffic in between [XXX] and [XXX], while pulling a camper. Truck oiled down the interstate and produced a blueish/milky looking cloud that caused drivers behind me to lock up their brakes because of bad vision, creating a hazard. I was told by gm that they wouldn’t tow the camper that I had to take care of that but they wouldn’t tow send a truck for my truck. Tow truck gets there and says my truck is too big and leaves. I called my own rollback to get my truck 3 1/2 hours later and they came and got it. Was stranded on the side of the interstate for 4 1/2 hours in 90 degree weather, to my knowledge the 2nd truck gm was supposed to send never showed up. Requested a buyback and was denied with no reason given. I have a lot of records if anyone wants them. Catastrophic Engine failure - Chevy, Silverado 1500, Yr: 2023; Odometer: 33,183: On 8/16/2026 we were traveling down a busy highway towing our camper and the engine completely stopped, no propulsion, no warning lights, no check engine lights; complete failure; we had to coast to side of road. The only thing that indicated a problem is that we started hearing what sounded like marbles rattling, it wasn't loud but noticeable. We pulled over at gas station to check oil, even though we just had the oil changed for maintenance on 7/17/2026 (Odometer: 32,587). Everything checked out ok; however, the marble sound became louder; then within 5 minutes of leaving the gas station, we lost all engine propulsion; the engine completely shut down. Our safety was put at risk as we had no truck engine and were towing a camper on a busy highway; and had to try and coast to a safe location on side of road; miles away from home. We had to call a tow truck to come get us and unfortunately, they could not help us with our camper so then had to call our son to come with his truck to get our camper and us home safely. The tow company also had a difficult time getting the truck into neutral to tow. The truck was towed to our hometown Chevy Dealer. The dealer said that they were not going to diagnose the problem and instead are ordering a new 6.2 engine; same as the 6.2 that failed. We asked if this would fix the problem and they said there were no guarantees as it is the same engine with the same problem. Prior to this event, we received a recall in Sep 2025 and an engine inspection and oil change was performed on 9/12/2025 (Odometer: 25,751); we were told that our engine was ok. As of 9/3/2026; we have been without our vehicle for 17 days.

I had the 6.2 engine replaced at 38k miles. Now at 78k miles my new engine replacement is using 1.5qrt of oil within 4k miles. I am being told i have to watch the oil every 800 miles and report back to Chevrolet. I feel my investment is completely a loss of $60,000.00 + . I was told by the service tech that i will probaly have to have another engine replaced again.. My resale value is NO WHERE near worth anything and I am stuck.

My Second motor blew up while towing my camper with my entire family in the vehicle, leaving us stranded 1 foot from interstate traffic for over an hour as we waited for a tow truck—this was GM's 3rd attempt to fix the problem. There were no warning signs. The motor had roughly 4 thousand miles on it. I have since gotten rid of this truck (and suffered financial loss) before it gets me or someone else killed. GM needs to fix this. o30,317 miles – Started using Heavier oil 6/18/2025 o36,732 miles – Recall “fix” 11/10/2025 o38,917 miles – 1st Engine Failed 1/9/2026 oTruck returned to me – 1-24-26 o43617 miles – 06/20/2026 Replacement motor blew up I can't remember the exact speed, but I was going with the flow of traffic, so I'm going to guess it was 70-75. The file CTCS654636 is the second motor failure. Starr RO 626023.pdf is the first engine failure. and i have also uploaded the two files of when i swapped oil and had the recall fixed.

After the recall was done on my truck, it now makes a ticking noise that wasn't there before. When I bring this to the attention of the service department at the dealership where I purchased it, they say that noise is completely normal and sent me on my way.

Description of the Problem: My 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has a recurring transmission issue involving hard shifting and shuddering during normal driving. The transmission frequently hesitates, clunks, or jolts when changing gears, especially at low to moderate speeds. These symptoms occur consistently and have worsened over time. Safety Concerns: The harsh gear engagement and shuddering make the vehicle difficult to control smoothly. It feels like something will break while I'm driving. The unpredictable shifting behavior feels unsafe in traffic, during merging, and when accelerating from a stop, or driving on the freeway. I am concerned this may be related to widespread transmission complaints reported by other 2023 Silverado owners, including valve body and TCM failures. Service History: I have not contacted my dealership regarding the issue. Why I’m Reporting: I believe this transmission behavior presents a potential safety defect. I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA can review it as part of ongoing monitoring of similar issues reported for this model year.

Total Engine failure Was traveling at approximately 45 miles an hour and locked up. Thankfully on a 2 lane road with minimal traffic, highway could have been a totally different story. Problem has been confirmed by dealer I am unaware of inspection besides by dealer. No warning lamps or other symptoms until right before failure.

On [XXX], my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2 (VIN: [XXX]) underwent GM's safety recall service for the 6.2L L87 V8 engine (Recall N252494000 / Special Coverage N252494003). The vehicle passed dealer inspection and received the prescribed higher-viscosity oil and calibration remedy. On [XXX], at 25,287 miles—less than five months and a few thousand miles after the recall was performed—the engine suffered a catastrophic internal mechanical failure, resulting in a sudden and complete loss of propulsion while I was getting off of the freeway. I had to coast to a stop on the side of the road. I had it towed to Murcock Chevrolet. The vehicle was serviced at Murdock Chevrolet (Woods Cross, UT), where technicians confirmed the internal failure and completed a full engine long-block replacement under GM Special Coverage warranty (Invoice total: $10,852.26). GM's initial recall remedy failed to prevent catastrophic failure, posing a serious safety hazard due to unexpected propulsion loss while operating the vehicle. 6.2 liter vehicle engine failure while moving on interstate April 1, 2026 … (I responded to first recall notice and Hendrick Chevrolet of Naples, Fl. completed inspection and oil replacement in 2025) … engine replaced by Estero Bay Chevrolet June 2026 at 72,495 miles on odometer … engine failure (76,004 miles on odometer) while moving August 6, 2026 towed to Hendrick Chevrolet (Naples, Fl.) … Hendrick Chevrolet refused to repair noting engine replacement required … vehicle towed to Estero Bay Chevrolet (Estero, Florida) and engine replacement confirmed again … my complaint includes Estero Bay ordered replacement engine and confirms same 6.2 liter engine to be installed in my truck (3rd engine for truck) suggesting same engine subject of recall to be installed will fail again while underway/moving endangering me and family … first incident April 1, 2026 second incident August 6, 2026
