2021 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500 Complaints

While towing my 5th wheel rv trailer, the rear wheels locked up numerous times while at highway speeds(60-70mph). Hope our didn't cause any internal/ structural damage to my trailer. Scheduled a service with the dealer(Gamblins Chevrolet, Enumclaw, WA) for them to diagnose. The dealer found no issue or cause. Left the dealer for the same thing to occur the following week. Brought back to the dealer for this issue and others to determine the torque converter had failed, dealer replaced converter, at a later date rear wheels locked up at highway speeds again. Been ongoing with no solution.

#N232426400-04: Safety Recall - Tailgate May Open Unexpectedly lists RPO code QT5 as the only applicable RPO code for the issue of tailgate opening unexpectedly. QT5 is for manual gate function with EZ lift, power lock release. The recall blames water intrusion into these vehicles’ tailgates that can come into contact with the electronic gate-release switch, potentially causing a short circuit, which may inadvertently unlatch and open the tailgate when in park. The correction is to replace the exterior touchpad switch assembly with part number 85734717. My vehicle has RPO code QT6, which is for power up/down gate function with power lock and release. That option uses the same exterior touchpad switch assembly with part number 85734717. My vehicle did exhibit the same problem of opening unexpectedly while in park. That exterior touchpad switch eventually stopped opening or closing the tailgate altogether, and occasionally the tailgate would get stuck in the closed position while a dash message would say it is open. When it was immobilized in the closed position neither the exterior switch, the interior switch, or the key fob would make the tailgate open. It's my opinion that my vehicle experienced the same root problem as is described in the recall with the exterior switch assembly short circuiting, and that RPO code QT6 units should be included in the recall.

The contact stated while driving at approximately 45 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed and extended to the floorboard, and the vehicle almost crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The contact later discovered that the rear driver’s side brake pad had been ejected from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. Additionally, the contact stated that the transmission erroneously shifted out of 4-WD while driving. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 49,000. The VIN was not available.

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked in the rain at night, the contact became aware that the tailgate had opened unintendedly. The contact stated that the failure also occurred while driving over bumpy road surfaces. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 65-70 MPH and towing a trailer, the tailgate opened unintendedly and struck the trailer hitch, which scratched the tailgate. The contact stated that the tailgate warning light had illuminated several times while driving. The contact stated that the failure had caused him to frequently check a camera to see whether the tailgate opened while driving. The contact stated who is a disabled veteran was using a wheel chair, and was concerned for his safety. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V060000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages). The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.

July 20, we were driving the 2021 3500HD to church w/our single axle trailer w/mower on it when we were stopped at a yield sign and proceeded to pull forward, our truck made a loud boom noise and immediately stopped. Warning lights on the dash began coming on, when the gas pedal was pressed it made a loud RPM sound of engine revving, following by barely coasting action. We were able to drift into the turn lane & get out of danger. We had to be towed to Capital Chevrolet bc something isn't functioning properly. Dealership said they believe it's transmission related and the power train warranty should cover repairs needed. We have tow receipt and gas receipts for rental vehicle.

The contact mentioned that the smoke would become more aggressive as the accelerator or brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle caught on fire however the origin was unknown. The contact and his family exited the vehicle safely and discovered unknown fluid emitting from the rear of the vehicle. The contact used a fire extinguisher to attempt to extinguish the fire however the fire kept returning a total of 4 times. The fire department was contacted and extinguished the fire. A fire report was not filed. A police report was filed however the police report number was unknown. No injuries were sustained. The vehicle was destroyed and burned to the frame. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 15,521.

Tilt sensors, upper air bags deployed almost causing a catastrophic crash. I did report to gm but I have not received answers yet. Vehicle deployed air bags without warning.

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and attempting to depress the brake pedal, there was an abnormal sound coming from the brakes. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the brakes were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The local dealer advised the contact that it was a common manufacturer defect and that she needed to wait until parts became available to replace the brakes. The contact stated that the local dealer had not returned her call. The contact reached out to the local dealer recently and was informed that the vehicle was no longer under warranty and that the brakes could not be replaced free of charge. The contact also stated that while turning to the left or right, there was an abnormal sound coming from the tires. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.

The tailgate opened and closes on its own while trailering causing sever binds and damage to the trailer and allowing loads to become unsecured. There is a recall already from GM on this issue, but for some reason our VIN is not included. This is a well documented issue. We have video of this occurrence if necessary. The dealer said it’s water in the tailgate switch.

Without warning tailgate will drop without being actuated, even while driving. Things could fall out of the truck box into traffic following me. The tailgate came down while in my garage overnight and the garage door was opened in the morning with electronic opener causing the tailgate to be scratched up as well! Dealer has said this has become a reoccurring problem with my vehicle model. GM apparently has no service bulletin or recall notice for this problem. I called Chevrolet and they have annotated my issue.
