Number 2 cylinder lifter failure. Metal found in oil. Need to replace the engine

Just for information purposes, I have been an ASE certified Master automotive technician for 30 years. As I was accelerating onto the highway, my transmission downshifted hard, throwing everything forward. It then went into limp mode with “ses” light on. I was able to drive it home stuck in one gear. The next morning I tried to drive the truck. It had reverse but when trying to go forward, the transmission was stuck in between gears and fighting itself. I manually shifted into low gear and it seemed to clear up the binding. I drove the truck up and down my driveway which is about a half mile long. No more “ses” light but when I went to park it, there was no movement in reverse. As I researched the problem I found the recall information on the valve body. I called several dealerships to find a service writer that had experience with these transmission issues. The truck was towed to a dealership that knew about this recall. Their technician checked for codes but there were none. It seems these trucks reset or “lose” codes when the ignition is turned off. He checked the fluid and decided that the reverse clutch must be burned up. They quoted a transmission replacement at $6500. I asked if they had driven the truck forward at all to reset any trouble codes. The truck was “unsafe” to drive due to the random harsh downshift and erratic behavior. I went there(putting myself in danger) to drive the truck to reset any trouble codes. Within a mile the truck did the same thing. It stored a code P2732. I was informed that GM would not do anything for me unless there was a P747. After reasoning with the service manager and also GM, it was obvious I was out of luck. I had the truck towed home and removed the transmission pan. The fluid was clean and there was no debris. The problem is in the defective valve body from GM but since it didn’t have the code P0747 I’m stuck having to repair it myself. The truck has 126k miles still well within the extended service range.

The engine seized as we were driving 65mph on the highway on a family trip. Had no warning sings or any dashboard lights come on. The vehicle just put itself in neutral and we coasted down the road until we came to a complete stop. Had the recall done a year ago for it. The dealer confirmed now that it was a catastrophic engine failure.

Sudden slamming on the brake automatically when in reverse and there is nothing around the car to cause this. Has happened many times The car will alert that something is too close when turning right by there is nothing there. It is intermittent. When you start the car it the motor reves up very high and will stay there until you push the gas and then it quiets down. This is usually the first start of the day. High and rough idle Super hard intermittent transmission shift or down shifting while normal driving. It jerks really hard and sometime it’s so hard it throws you forward like the brake is being applied. Symbol intermittently shows up on dash. Then goes away after the car has been turned off and restarted. Brakes squeal bad. Acceleration reduction message then check engine light came on 8/30. Roaring loud noise before the light came on. Put 1 gallon coolant in it and light went off. Now runs and idles high.

The steering rack on the Chevrolet Bolt EV does not return to center on turns. Over the course of the past 25k miles, my particular model has slowly began to lock up on deep turns. This occurs on sharp rights, lefts, and on both on and off ramps - especially the ones that loop around. The steering rack gets stuck on sharper turns and continuous turns, requiring force to return back to center or to get out of the turn. With hands off the wheel, the vehicle maintains its turn radius and without driver input, would inevitably turn into a barrier, object, or even another vehicle. Issues began around the 80k mark, possibly sooner, and dealer did not fully disclose this occurrence. The steering binding is a safety issue, and if left long enough might fully bind up causing an accident. It reduces my ability to sense road traction conditions and make fine adjustments.

I was going about 65 and the car suddenly brakes for no reason and dropped to about 50. Thought I was going to be rear ended

Operating vehicle normally until one day I heard a rattling noise from the engine compartment. Car had limited speed and i had to pull over to check what the issue was and the car wont start. No check engine lights, no warning. Tried turning car on but only the car starter keeps rolling. Tried jumping and it doesnt start and had to have it towed to the dealership. Car is under 55,000miles and dealer diagnosis indicates there are metal particles in the new oil after replacing oil and a loose bearing. States i will need a new engine, which is on back order and GM will only cover $44/day until repair is complete. All maintenance and oil change invervals were kept up to date. Other days when I start the car, the main HUD with the speedometer does not turn on. Pitch black... I can drive but not know what my speed is. I had to disconnect battery and reconnect to clear the issue. It has happened several times.

July 2025. 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Vehicle mileage 18k 6.2L engine. Lack of Propulsion under normal, in-traffic, highway operation at highway speeds. Potential safety issue to myself or others, due to failure and lack of Propulsion. Issue was confirmed by dealer. Metal shavings in oil pan and oil filter. Bearing failure, recall item, however engine failure before recall engine could be replaced. Engine replaced quickly and without issue. Dealer was extremely professional, helpful, and a pleasure to deal with. UNKNOWN if vehicle was inspected by anyone other than dealer. UNKNOWN if any warning lights prior to failure. No messages or symptoms prior to failure.

I am an investigator w/ the Medical Examiner's office in Dallas, TX. We are investigating the death of an individual who was inside a 2018 Chevy Equinox that was "rebuilt." During the minor accident, the steering wheel airbag deployed, but exploded and shot many large pieces of debris and shrapnel at the decedent's face. Ultimately leading to her passing. After the examination, a large piece of metal w/ a serial number was located. [XXX]. We are working alongside Dallas PD VHU for this crash. The company had a complimentary repair of the known issue of bad oil cooler lines. It oblast short period. I now own the vehicle and it still has leaking oil cooler lines why should it not be replaced by GM since the lines leaking or coming apart and possibly blowing up and engine is a known problem. Would like gm to replace it under the program they already had offered
