My engine completely died, and a complete loss of propulsion happened. My safety was put at risk due to no power while on busy highway. This problem with L87 engines (6.2) has been reported extensively. The vehicle was inspected for GM Program # N252494000, NHTSA 25V74 for above issues and was inspected on 2025-08-28. Inspection passed, but the failure ultimatel happened on 2025-02-25. Dealer indicated engine was covered under original powertrain warranty and GM would send a remanufactured engine. Dealer has still not received the engine as of Monday (2/23), which is almost a month later. While driving on a US highway in a rural area, my engine suddenly died while driving approximately 60mph. The restart engine light came on, and I quickly was unsure what was happening as I felt myself slowing down slightly after realizing I had no power and the engine would not restart. I believe it went to neutral automatically. I was in the inside lane, and it was incredibly dangerous due to traffic around me. I could not easily exit to side of road due to the traffic, but luckily a gap formed, and I was able to abruptly get off the road. I have kids in the car daily, and this would have been life threatening had it happen in any other scenario, or especially in a larger city or busier highway. I am confident this is related to GM's issues with the 6.2 liter engines. I have a 2023 Silverado 1500 ZR2 that this happened to. The loss of propulsion is clearly due to the defect in these engines.

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that on two separate occasions while hauling the camper, the "High Diesel Exhaust Fluid", Exhaust Fluid Range", and "Fill DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) Now" warning messages were displayed on the instrument panel. The messages indicated that the Diesel Exhaust Fluid was low and needed to be replenished. The contact stated that the failure caused the instrument panel to freeze and not operate as needed. Upon attempting to refuel the vehicle, fuel failed to enter the fuel tank since the diesel tank was full. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where the contact was informed that the failure was an electrical glitch and that there were no issues with the Diesel Exhaust Fluid system. The contact was also informed by the dealer of Technical Service Bulletin: 22-NA-150, which the contact related to the failure. The dealer reset the vehicle, which caused the instrument panel to return to normal operation. The manufacturer was then notified of the failure, and the contact was informed that vehicle was not included in the TSB. The contact was given a case number and was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

While driving down [XXX] the car started making a weird noise as we slowed down for an upcoming light. The light changed and as we started to drive again the check engine light came on and I lost power steering. I was trying to navigate the car off towards the shoulder but the car was hard to maneuver, but was able to move into the right lane. I had to drive the car slowly as to not stop the engine propulsion and stalling. But had no luck once we reached the intersection on [XXX] and [XXX] . At this point the car just died. Nothing was working. Hazard lights didn’t even work at one point. This situation left me and my family in the middle of traffic on a busy highway road. The only thing we had in our favor was the car stoped right at a red light so traffic would have to slow down every so often to the stoplight. We had to have the car towed off the road at around midnight and they took it to the dealership. The engine had a complete failure (found out after the dealership took apart the engine). The email stated: A further oil sample confirmed excessive metal throughout the engine at this point we proceeded with disassembly to identify the source of the failure. After removing the oil pan and inspecting internal components, we found internal engine damage. Specifically, the connecting rod bearing on cylinder 5 had failed, causing significant scoring to the crankshaft, camshaft, and related engine components. The engine has experienced a major internal failure due to the failed rod bearing, resulting in internal damage. Because of the severity of this condition, internal components are not serviceable individually. So the Engine replacement would be required. This car is only 3.5 months old, and other than a safety switch that was a manufacture issue we had to have fixed there were no other warnings my engine was going to die and leave me in the middle of the road. The Instrument panel that shows the Tire Pressure, Speed, Oil, Mileage etc. goes blank black then comes back on. Its been happening for a year and I did contacted Chevy about it. I waited for them to contact me back but they never did. I have taken it for the oil changes at the dealer but its usually on. I explain to the Chevy Dealer service about it over the phone, they told me it would cost a certain amount to fix and they needed to do a diagnosis first. This has been going on for 3 years (the turning blank on and off) while driving .

The vehicle lost power and went into limp mode on 3/3. I had it transported to a dealership and they said there was metal containments in the motor. I got it back on 3/17 and they said all was well but it never drove right. It broke down again on 3/20 and the said the throttle body was out. Why had they not found this issue before? This seems to be a recurring issue with this model truck.

My vehicle has been at the dealership since February 4 due to a transmission failure involving the valve body, which is currently on national back order along with the converter. These parts are required to complete the repair, and the vehicle is not drivable. This issue occurred after previous major repairs, including engine lifter replacement and a CV axle repair. It has now been 71 days without a repair. The dealer has confirmed the failures, but the manufacturer has not provided a repair timeline or a definitive solution. I have not received consistent updates since March 19, and the vehicle remains out of service with no estimated completion date..

I was driving in heavy traffic. It was a traffic jam. The driver in front of me was stop and go. I was keeping a good distance as we were moving along. Suddenly the engine braked so violently I was thrown off my seat and the seatbelt had to catch me. Inadvertently my hand must have hit the the shifting toggle. The car was then in reverse. I was unaware and shocked, so I went to get out of the brake and then started to reverse for it to then brake on me again in reverse, only slower this time. I contact gm, they put me to a dealer, that treated this like it was routine maintenance and had no urgency. They offered me a rental program, but I had to process a lot of paperwork, I asked for another someone just to take care of it, and they just sent me phone numbers. They never advised me not to drive the car.
