2023 CHEVROLET TAHOE- Burlington, WI
I am writing to express my disappointment with how the L87 engine recall was handled on my 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. I purchased this vehicle for approximately $82,000 and brought it to Kunes Chevrolet in Lake Geneva multiple times for scheduled maintenance. During my first visit after learning of the recall involving potential connecting rod and crankshaft defects, I specifically asked when my vehicle would be inspected and repaired. I was repeatedly told that I would receive additional information in the mail and that I would be contacted when repairs became available. Over the course of several oil change visits, I continued to ask about the recall. Each time, I received essentially the same response. During my most recent visit, I was informed that when the recall procedure became available, the dealership would listen to the engine with a stethoscope and then determine whether the vehicle required repairs or only a switch to a heavier oil viscosity. As a customer who invested $82,000 in a full-size SUV, I found that response extremely disappointing. The recall concerns involve engine components that could potentially lead to catastrophic engine failure. Being told that the solution may simply be listening to the engine and installing thicker oil did not inspire confidence in the long-term reliability of the vehicle. Ultimately, my confidence in both the vehicle and the handling of this recall deteriorated to the point where I no longer felt comfortable taking long trips with my family. I made the difficult decision to trade the vehicle in less than two years after purchase, resulting in an approximately $26,000 financial loss. I believe customers who invested significant amounts of money in these vehicles deserved clearer communication, a more proactive response, and a solution that restored confidence in the product. Unfortunately, my experience left me with serious trust concerns regarding both this recall process and General Motors' customer commitment.

2021 CHEVROLET COLORADO- South Daytona, FL
My 2021 Chevy Colorado experienced a distinct bucking and shuddering sensation under slow acceleration at lower RPMs, specifically when shifting between 2nd and 3rd gear. There were no dashboard warning lights or malfunction codes prior to the issue. The defect was officially reproduced, inspected, and confirmed by a GM technician at a certified Chevrolet dealership on October 28, 2025, at 46,437 miles. Diagnostic scanning using GM’s GDS software explicitly confirmed that the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) slip speed was exceeding 100 RPM when the low-speed shudder occurred. The dealership determined the component was failing and replaced the entire torque converter assembly under warranty. This documentation is submitted to prove that the TCC defect remains uncorrected in post-2019 vehicles. My sister’s identical 2021 Colorado is now experiencing the same defect at 59,000 miles, but her symptoms have progressed significantly worse to include a severe high-speed drivetrain shudder alongside the low-speed acceleration bucking.

2024 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500- Fulshear, TX
The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled on several occasions. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was restarted and drove as intended. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times, but no repair was performed. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling), and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the recall repair; however, the dealer informed the contact that the manufacturer denied authorization to perform the recall inspection. The dealer informed the contact that the failure appeared to be associated with the recall and replaced the engine oil with a higher viscosity oil. The contact was provided a work order confirming that the recall repair was not completed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to another dealer. The vehicle was taken to Mac Haik Chevrolet (11711 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079); however, the stalling failure could not be duplicated, but there were abnormal engine sounds confirmed. The second dealer requested authorization to disassemble the engine, but the manufacturer denied the request. The contact stated that the manufacturer failed to honor the recall repair, denied a buyback request, and offered monetary compensation, which the contact declined. The vehicle was not repaired and was traded in. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.

2023 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500- SAN CARLOS, CA
Description of the Problem: My 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has a recurring transmission issue involving hard shifting and shuddering during normal driving. The transmission frequently hesitates, clunks, or jolts when changing gears, especially at low to moderate speeds. These symptoms occur consistently and have worsened over time. Safety Concerns: The harsh gear engagement and shuddering make the vehicle difficult to control smoothly. It feels like something will break while I'm driving. The unpredictable shifting behavior feels unsafe in traffic, during merging, and when accelerating from a stop, or driving on the freeway. I am concerned this may be related to widespread transmission complaints reported by other 2023 Silverado owners, including valve body and TCM failures. Service History: I have not contacted my dealership regarding the issue. Why I’m Reporting: I believe this transmission behavior presents a potential safety defect. I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA can review it as part of ongoing monitoring of similar issues reported for this model year.

I have 19,000 miles. After each oil change, the engine begins to idol rough, the vehicle violently shakes and the traction control and ABS turn off. The first time this happened it was determined that there was a cylinder (4) failure causing a missfire. This was corrected under warranty. A few months later immediately after receiving an oil change again, the same actions occurred. This time the computer is showing a cylinder (7) failure and engine missfire. This is very similar to what is happening on the 6.7 L GM recall l, but I don’t have the 6.7 I have the 5.8. I believe the issue is bigger than just the 6.7 L.

While coming to a stop on a highway, the engine started running very rough, shaking the vehicle constantly, and the check engine light came on and the ESC failure notice came on. We brought it to an independent repair shop that ran diagnostics and recommended the vehicle needed a new engine and should not be driven for risk of it seizing. They introduced us to the fact that there was a GM recall on this particular engine and production year. Upon taking the vehicle to the local Chevy dealership, they suggested that we first repair a failed cylinder lifter, but that there may also be crankshaft issues, but that it would be costly to determine this for sure and that it was likely more cost effective to replace the whole engine than approach the repairs in order. They also confirmed our VIN was not part of the recall so the replacement engine would be our responsibility. We had the engine replaced back at the independent repair shop. Given the recent recall expansion, I wanted to submit this, as it seems that a broader number of vehicles within the production years of this engine should be considered included in this recall.
