Formal complaint — outdated Android/Google Built-In security patch level on 2024 Chevy Silverado; potential cybersecurity defect and negligent maintenance by manufacturer. I am submitting a formal complaint regarding a critical cybersecurity and software maintenance defect in my 2024 Chevy Silverado. The vehicle runs Google Built-In / Android Automotive OS with an Android Security Patch Level of February 2024 (as displayed under Settings ? About ? Android version). As of this writing in December 2025, this patch level is nearly two years outdated, with no available over-the-air (OTA) updates and no clear communication from General Motors or Google regarding continued support or end-of-life status. This condition exposes the infotainment and telematics systems to known and documented vulnerabilities, representing both a cybersecurity defect and potential consumer safety. Description of the defect: The infotainment system reports “Android Security Patch Level: February 2024.” Attempts to check for updates return “Your system is up to date.” The system shows a red exclamation mark beside the patch level, indicating a fault condition or known update gap. Neither the dealer nor OnStar/Customer Support can apply an update manually or clarify the support cadence. This leaves the vehicle permanently exposed to Android-level vulnerabilities discovered and patched long after February 2024. Security and regulatory implications: The infotainment system runs a network-connected OS with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular, and vehicle bus access. Unpatched Android components are subject to hundreds of known CVEs since February 2024 — including privilege-escalation, RCE (remote code execution), and Bluetooth/Wi-Fi stack vulnerabilities. The U.S. NHTSA Cybersecurity Best Practices for the Safety of Modern Vehicles (2022 update) and ISO/SAE 21434 require that manufacturers maintain timely security updates for all connected vehicle systems.

Formal complaint — persistent, non-disableable Bluetooth transmitter in [2024 Chevy Silverado] / privacy & safety risk; request for remediation and recall assessment I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding a safety and privacy defect in the infotainment/telematics system of my vehicle, a The unit runs Google Built-In / Android Automotive OS. This complaint documents technical evidence that the vehicle’s Bluetooth radio broadcasts a persistent, non-randomized MAC address and cannot be completely disabled via any user-accessible control. I request immediate remediation, a formal security assessment, and confirmation whether this condition will be remediated by firmware/OTA update or recall. Summary of the issue The infotainment unit’s Bluetooth adapter emits BLE advertisements that expose a static, permanent MAC address i.e ([AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF]) that does not change across power cycles and is visible to passive scanners while the vehicle is parked and otherwise idle. The vehicle provides no persistent user control to turn off the Bluetooth radio; menus do not disable the hardware radio. Attempts to disable Bluetooth via the system settings are ineffective. The static MAC and inability to disable the radio create an ongoing privacy and tracking risk: third parties can uniquely identify and track the vehicle across time and locations by logging the broadcasted identifier. This configuration is inconsistent with current industry cybersecurity & privacy guidance that recommends minimizing exposed identifiers, providing user control to disable wireless interfaces, and implementing randomization of wireless addresses when possible. The static MAC plus non-disableable radio constitutes a persistent, unique identifier broadcast in public spaces. This defeats reasonable efforts by consumers to limit tracking and to control their privacy.

While driving in early 2025, my 2016 Chevrolet Spark EV suddenly lost all ability to accelerate. The vehicle remained powered on but would not respond to the accelerator, and I was unable to fully shut it off. This created a safety hazard because I could not properly control or secure the vehicle, and it required towing. I replaced the 12V battery at my own expense. The issue briefly disappeared, but the same failure occurred again within weeks. The replacement 12V battery also failed to hold a charge, indicating the problem was not related to the 12V system. I brought the vehicle to Harbor Chevrolet. Their technicians confirmed the problem was caused by a failure of the high-voltage battery system. They also informed me that the required EV battery is unavailable from the manufacturer with no estimated availability. Because this component is essential for basic propulsion and safety, the vehicle has been completely inoperable since early 2025. The vehicle is available for inspection, but it cannot be driven due to the propulsion failure. The defect has been reproduced and confirmed by the dealership. There were no warning lamps or early indicators prior to the sudden loss of propulsion. I am reporting this because sudden propulsion loss and inability to shut the vehicle down properly present significant safety concerns, especially if this issue affects additional Spark EV vehicles without an available manufacturer remedy.

The component that failed is the internal microswitch/sensor within the gear shifter assembly. The specific part that requires replacement is often documented in General Motors Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 19-NA-206 or 23-NA-119. The faulty component is available for inspection if the dealership removes the old part and retains it. My safety and the safety of others are put at risk because the vehicle often fails to register that it is fully in "Park," which prevents the vehicle from shutting off properly, potentially leaving it in accessory mode. This could lead to a dead battery, leaving me stranded. More importantly, the failure to confirm the 'Park' state introduces a risk of the vehicle not being securely immobilized, creating a roll-away hazard if parked on an incline. The problem has been confirmed by local Chevrolet dealership service centers (receipts available). The issue is identical to the defect that prompted official safety recalls for numerous other GM models, including the 2017-2018 GMC Acadia. Furthermore, the symptoms described match those outlined in the active class-action settlement for 2016-2019 Malibu owners (STPLawsuit.com).

The electronically-activated hood release, latching mechanism on my 2024 Chevrolet Corvette VIN 1G1YA2D42R5116964 has been repeatedly malfunctioning since August, 2025. The hood either pops open of its own accord or it will not close securely, leaving the occupants of the vehicle to speculate if the hood will spontaneously open blinding the driver in traffic.

Transmission is not functioning properly at 74,300 miles. Engine kept slipping while driving uphill and the RPMs were not matching vehicle speed. Could not go above 50mph while merging onto freeway which was very dangerous. Whirring noise occurred every time I accelerated which was also noted By dealer and transmission shop. No check engine lights on. Took to dealer, but the misdiagnosed it since no lights were on. Took to Transmission shop, and they found that the transmission had several issues that were not displayed. Besides the shop running specific tests, there are still no warning lamps or messages displayed on the vehicle dashboard or using an OBD2 sensor.

The vehicle was shifting hard and eratically on the highway. All dashboard lights came on including the ESC failure warning. A misfire in cylinder 2 occurred without any warning lights causing the vehicle engine to stop running on a highway. The mechanic repair shop did a disgnostic evaluation and reported a catastrophic engine failure from cylinder 2. The engine does not run and requires full replacement. The vehicle has only 80,000 miles.

I have a 2021 Chevy Suburban with the L87 6.2L V8 engine. At 7k miles, we have lost propulsion, leaving the car undrivable. resulted in the dealer replacing all 16 lifters under a recognized bulletin. I never received extended 6yr 100k mile powertrain warranty as described in the bulletin. Since then, There have been 3 other issues with loss of propulsion, resulting in replacement of fuel pump modulator. belt pulley system, One of the incidents left us without power or control of our vehicle on the interstate, with no where to pull over or get out of the way of oncoming semi trucks. The last incident again left the vehicle undriveable at 84k miles, with the dealer currently reporting that it is a lifter and cam shaft issue. Resulting in a 10k bill. They state that it is not covered under the recall of these engines because it is the top of the engine versus the bottom. Clearly, the engine oil problem noted in the recall has contributed to these issues . and the crankshaft not syncing properly with the lifters.

The car presented steering lock column issues with repair lights on at 50 miles. Since then, they have repaired the system numerous times and replaced that system fully twice. They also replaced the manual start system and six other pieces of the car over 18 visits to two different Chevy dealerships. The car still reduces speed and stops acceleration, has electric issues in the windows, lights and gate etc.
