2020 FORD EDGE Complaints

My 2020 Ford Edge Titanium was shuddering between 10 - 40 mph. I took my car to a Ford dealership to diagnose the problem. They said it's the torque converter and they needed to replace the transmission. It would be a rebuild/repair at a cost of 8,991.00. This car has only 49,500 miles and points to a manufacturing defect NOT standard wear and tear. Ford knew of this issue regarding thus 8-speed transmission.

The vehicle has been shuddering/jerking when accelerating. This problem is present at highway speeds, as well as lower speeds. A Ford Service Center on 8-28-26 has diagnosed it as a failing torque converter. The safety or both me and others is at risk if this part fails while driving. It is also dangerous, because when accelerating in rainy conditions the car does not maintain good traction while it's shuddering/jerking. Yes, this is available for inspection upon request.

I bought my Edge new in 2020. 3 years into owning the car had the transmission replaced on 8/23 due to mechanical/component failures. This was replaced under the original warranty of the car. The new transmission carried a 2 year unlimited warranty. I started having trouble again with the transmission August 1, 2026. 3 years after the new transmission. Took it to the Ford dealer to have them diagnose the problem. They could not pinpoint the exact issue so I was given a choice of replacing the valve body for $2,000. Not guaranteed to fix the problem. Or have them break the transmission down for $2100 and diagnose the problem. But this did not included reassembly. So I opted to get a 2nd opinion. Took my Edge to Cotterman in Louisville, KY and had them run a diagnoses. They confirmed that I had internal component failures and that the transmission needed to be replaced. I was quoted $8,198. The car books for $4,000. This vehicle is available for inspection. The problem has been confirmed by a dealer and another servicer. My vehicle never gave a transmission code. No warnings. It had to be scanned to find those codes. It did however give a no park available code on August 1st when I pulled in my driveway when I tried to put it in park. It shuddered and died when it gave this code. I don't understand why a 2020 vehicle needs a third transmission. Neither transmission have lasted to a 100,000 miles. I have found numerous articles and this is apparently a well known issue with these transmissions. With my experience the transmissions appear to have a 3 year life - no more.

The contact owns a 2020 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shuddered, and there was an abnormal sound coming from underneath the vehicle, and the vehicle failed to exceed 30 MPH while the accelerator pedal was depressed. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent at first and then became a consistent failure. No warning lights were illuminated. The failure had occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the torque converter and the rear differential needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.

About a month ago, July 2026, i started to notice shaking bumping when car shifted out of first gear. Brought to local garage and they said needs new transmission.

Car stutters, shudders, and hesitates from stopped position. Vehicle does not excelerate smoothly. Safety concern when pulling out into traffic, crossing intersection, or leaving stop. Paducah Ford said it is torque converter and independent mechanic says that as well. Ford issued tech service information concerning shudder for Ford Edge 8F35 transmission and provides a repair procedure for torque converter and output planetary assembly. I am concerned because it may represent a recurring safety related defect affecting other Ford Edge vehicles

Our 2020 Ford Edge SEL has experienced ongoing shuddering and hesitation while driving. The Ford dealership inspected the vehicle and diagnosed the torque converter as the likely cause, recommending approximately $4,500 in repairs. The torque converter has not been replaced and is available for inspection. We obtained a second opinion from an independent repair shop, which replaced the EGR sensors and updated them in an attempt to resolve the issue. The problem has created a safety concern because the vehicle does not always accelerate or operate normally while driving. The exact cause remains UNKNOWN, and the issue has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives.

XXX, I parked my Edge car around 11am. I always put the car into park mode before turning off vehicle! The road was flat, good weather and had no previous issues/warnings. I went into building. My gray Ford Edge 2020 ST with 105,000. miles is a wonderful vehicle! I came out of appointment about an hour later and my Edge had rolled backwards 6 to 8 feet! It almost hit another vehicle, parked behind my car! I immediately took my car to local Ford dealership service, Baugh Ford, [XXX]. I was told I needed to pay 1500 dollars for the vehicle to be taken apart to get an estimate of what needed to be fixed? I don’t have 1500 dollars to just give to ford service for them to look online and find what other years and other Ford models have had with this exactly same safety recall! This is a HUGE safety issue and FORD DOES NOT want to fix because this is a vehicle that I paid off in 7 years, have been only driver and never been in any accidents!
