2017 FORD F-250 SD Complaints

The contact owned a 2017 Ford F-250 hauling an unknown fifth-wheel trailer. The contact stated that while driving at 55 - 60 mph, the smoke odor was detected. The contact slowed the vehicle down to 10 mph, to stop and pull over. The fire started from the vehicle's engine compartment. The vehicle and travel trailer caught fire. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire. The contact was unaware if there was a fire department report. The contact had sustained smoke inhalation injury but did not receive medical assistance. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and was currently being reviewed by the insurance company. The contact works for the dealer and made them aware of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

At about 45,000 miles on truck the death wobble shake in the steering started. Took to dealer and waited for steering damper. At 49,000 miles the steering damper was replaced by Ford. The wobble never completely stopped and At about 53,000 miles on truck it came back to what it was and is getting worse, at 57,000 miles on truck now it wobbles and shakes all the time over any little bump or uneven spots on the road. Ford is refusing to fix, even though their steering damper never fixed it.

While driving 60mph or faster and drive over a little bump or a highway over pass, bridge with expansion things, the steering wheel and front tires shake , wobble uncontrollably . You have to hold on for dear life and slow down and pullover. Well that's not that easy on the interstate. It happened last night on the interstate and scared the living daylite out of me. Now I'm afraid to drive the truck over mph55. Ford supposedly fixed the front end when it had 15,000. miles. I'm calling the ford dealer monday.

Currently have experienced the "death wobble" for the third time. Ford dealer has fixed it twice and I have a current complaint that remains unresolved although my vehicle has an extended warranty and is well within that warranty period. 2017 F250 purchased new on 9/30/17. First occurrence in October 2019 with a trip to the dealer 11-7-19 (31,830 miles); dealer had the vehicle approximately 3 months before the repair was complete. Second occurrence in March 2020 with a trip to the dealer 4/15/20 (35,239 miles). Third occurrence on 9-30-2021 and 10-1-2021 and remains unaddressed by Ford and unsolved (62,500 miles). Dealerships are claiming excessive wait times to check out vehicles (4 to 8 weeks COVID is to blame from their perspective), meanwhile we have an unsafe vehicle that cannot and will not be driven until this is fixed. It has been reported to the dealer we purchased from and to Ford Customer Relationship Department multiple times. It is my understanding that this problem has existed for approximately 15 years; why has something not ben put in place to permanently fix this issue? My wife was in Louisiana bringing home family after the hurricane when the dangerous death wobble occurred while pulling a trailer; the violent shaking prevented emergency braking (this made it worse) and they were fortunate to be able to direct the truck and trailer onto the shoulder of the Interstate to avoid an accident. It is also my understanding that Ford has issued a recall fix but as of today no dealer has stepped up to expedite the work. No prior warning for this in any form.

At least 10 occupancies of the death wobble since Fall 2020. Had it addresses by dealership in Feb 2021 by having the stabilizer replaced at no charge under program 20n04. The fix lasted approximately 6 months. Taking the truck back in on Tuesday, 10/5/21 to be reassessed.

Trucks automatic tailgate opens by itself. I had the recall repair performed, however, the issue continues. The tailgate opens by itself even after the recall repair. Issue #2- Passenger seat headrest bracket is broken and rattling loudly. Numerous complaints on the internet.

I have had the tail gate open several times. I have had the tailgate repaired under a recall twice and then I replaced the entire wiring harness for it. Unfortunately the issue continues to happen.

After hitting a bump or bridge on the highway, the vehicle shakes dangerously and uncontrollably. It has happened since I bought it but I could control it by slowing down significantly. It got worse over time. It has steered me out of my driving lane. I took it to the Ford dealership for inspection and repair. About 6 months later it started happening again. It is currently very severe. Today was the latest occurrence.

Violent oscillation/shaking of the steering wheel components after going through an uneaven transition or pot hole on the road at around 60 miles per hour or more. After researching people call it"death wobble" This problem start after 20k miles after buying the truck brand new from the dealership, it's been going on. Last time it happened was yesterday September/08/2021 on highway 10W Baytown ,Texas. Almost get rear ended by an eighteen wheeler wen trying to slow down .

Twice, when accelerating into the freeway a violent shaking, “death rattle” of the steering wheel back and forth left and right. I pulled off to side of freeway . Started back up and the problem seemed to have resolved.
