The car randomly goes into LIMP mode when driving in every condition going at any speed, the car has a significant loss of power and needs to be restarted to gain power back. I have almost crashed because of this problem numerous times. Genesis dealership refuses to fix anything because the car doesn't bring back any error codes. This has happened to new and older G70s, there has also been numerous LEMON LAW buy packs under this exact LIMP mode issue being way more prevalent. I have gotten the supposed "fuel pump" recall which is what is directly affecting this issue and the problem persists. Genesis is aware of the issue and extended the dual pump warranty extensively. My car is extremely unsafe at random intervals during my daily commute. This issue is extremely dangerous and could cause a horrific crash. The car basically turns into a slug even when flooring the pedal to try and speed up, this makes merging and changing lanes on these New York highways extremely dangerous. There is an inherent problem with the design of this car in terms of how the fuel pump and fuel pump sensors operate. Genesis is aware of the issue and does nothing to fix it because wait for catastrophic failure of a competent and worse a crash that could result in a fatality.

I leased a 2023 Genesis GV60, which was misrepresented as new but had multiple safety recalls, including ICCU battery failure, AWD/powertrain malfunction, and seatbelt defects. From the start, the seatbelts didn’t secure properly, and the car failed NY state inspection, causing me to lose a job that required a safe vehicle. Despite six visits to different service centers in 3 months, no actual repairs were completed. Mechanics admitted they didn’t understand the battery defect. The recalls later disappeared from the system without resolution. This is highly unsafe and deceptive. Genesis refused accountability, claiming they don’t control dealership practices—yet they allowed a dealer to fraudulently lease a car with open recalls. They also filed a false insurance claim under my name, inflating my premium and causing me over $33,000 in damages. I visited five other luxury dealers and confirmed that other brands do not allow demo or recall vehicles to be sold this way. Genesis’ refusal to fix or buy back the car and their attempt to cover up recall issues reveals a systemic failure in recall enforcement and corporate responsibility. I urge NHTSA to investigate.

Vehicle Information: * Year: 2021 * Make: Genesis * Model: G80 * Vehicle Identification Number (VIN): [XXX] ] * Mileage at time of incident/problem start: Approximately 26,377 miles Problem Description: The issue began around [XXX]. When pressing the brake pedal, whether the vehicle is completely stopped or while driving, a distinct clicking or ratcheting sound is heard. The sound is clearly audible inside the cabin and is slightly louder when listening under the hood. The sound appears to be originating from an area near a valve or other component (possibly related to the brake booster or ABS system). The sound is always present when the brake pedal is depressed, regardless of the amount of pressure applied (whether pressed firmly or smoothly) or the state of the engine (the sound occurs even when the engine is off). Currently, the brakes function and the vehicle is able to stop. There are no warning lights illuminated on the dashboard indicating a fault in the brake system or any other system. Actions Taken So Far: The vehicle has not been taken for service regarding this specific issue yet. I have a scheduled appointment with an official Genesis dealer on the upcoming [May 7, 2025] to have the problem inspected and diagnosed. Reason for Submitting This Report: Although the brakes are currently functional, this unusual and persistent sound from the brake pedal is a significant concern and suggests a potential malfunction in a core component of the braking system. Since brake issues directly relate to the safety of the occupants and other road users, I have decided to report this potential defect to NHTSA for documentation and to contribute to any future investigations regarding the safety of the 2021 Genesis G80 model. The contact owns a 2023 Genesis G70. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle responded sluggishly while the RPM was extremely elevated. The contact stated that the failure was more significant while attempting to exceed 30-40 MPH. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring intermittently. The contact stated that upon turning off and restarting the vehicle, the vehicle operated as needed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the failure could not be replicated; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was test-driven, and the failure recurred; however, the dealer later informed the contact that, upon attempting to diagnose the vehicle, the failure could not be replicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.

ICCU failed leaving me stranded on the side of the road (thankfully not on bridge). This was supposed to have been fixed under a recall the week prior by reprogramming the computer. Genesis has not changed the ICCU so even if/when repaired, it will most likely happen again. The Genesis of Wexford, PA dealer confirmed ICCU and fuse blown. "Stop vehicle and check power supply" warning light came on.

I took my car in to have a recall repair completed. A relay kit was added to the engine compartment and my car has not operated the same since. When I start my car now it idles rough and is making noises that it wasn’t making before. When I accelerate my car stalls and is sluggish. Also when I accelerate my car stalls and speeds up uncontrollably, which is a concern for safety. I’ve contacted the dealership where this repair was completed and told them all the issues I’ve been having since the repair was completed. They keep stating that there is nothing wrong. I’ve spoken with Customer Relations and the Regional Manger only to get no assistance. I’m concerned about my safety and how this repair will affect my extended warranty because my engine has been altered. I wasn’t having any of these issues until this repair was completed and the dealership seems not to care or taking this seriously. The Regional Manager didn’t call me back until maybe a week or so after I kept constantly calling and advising that I was going to go to the news and get a lawyer. This issue has not been resolved.

The 12 volt battery on the EV car has gone dead twice since I took delivery on the new car in January 2025. When that happens the car is completely dead and must be manually accessed to open the hood and jump start the car. The first time the car would function once jump started. The second time the car would not stay "running" and the battery had to be recharged for the car to function. This problem seems to be the same as the issue that prompted the recall of this car and others in the fall of 2024. It appears that the problem was not corrected in new cars produced.

Driving on interstate at 70mph while it was raining. Signaled and changed lanes. Steering wheel started jerking left and right and the power steering light flickered on and off. The steering wheel stopped jerking and the power steering light remained on. I no longer had power steering and car was difficult to control. The emergency braking assist light came on as well. Was able to get off the interstate. Turned the car off and on. Power steering light remained on. Turned car off. Waited 5 minutes. Turned car on. Power steering light was off but the power steering still did not work. I slowly and carefully drove home, which was nearby. About 2 miles into the drive, power steering returned. It felt like it partially returned at first and then fully returned after several minutes.

The component that failed is the driver side headlamp and blinker. It collected condensation from a manufacturer defect that Genesis will not take accountability for. They over tightened the screws which caused hairline cracks in the assembly, which then causes condensation in the housing. The condensation cause the headlight and blinker to stop working altogether. This is a major safety issue and put me at risk of danger from cars not knowing where I am turning, or not being able to see me at all without a headlight. No, it doesn't need confirmed. It is not hard to tell when a headlight is out. There is literally no light.

I leased a Genesis GV60 in July 2023. The car was under a stop sale order and had to be repaired before it was leased to me because of a known issue with the rear axle. The dealership performed the fix to the vehicle and then proceeded to lease me the vehicle. In January 2025 while driving approximately 40 MPH on a paved flat road, I experienced a sudden thud and loss of power. When I applied pressure to the accelerator a loud angry noise came from the back of the vehicle. Smoke and a burning smell came from the back of the vehicle. There were electrical issues with the car being initial unresponsive to attempts to put the car in park, unlock doors and turn off the vehicle. We left the vehicle on the side of the road. We were in a remote location in a very cold climate with no cell phone signal at dusk. We flagged down a passing-by driver for transport to a safe location where we could call Genesis Emergency Roadside assistance. The car was towed to an authorized Genesis dealership and the rear axle was replaced at no cost to me. Repair staff at the dealership confirmed that based on their inspection there was no indication that the car had experienced any type of impact / injury that could explain the fractured rear axle. In March 2025, again I was driving on a paved flat road going approximately 30 MPH. As I was approaching a stop sign, I again experienced what felt like a sudden thud, and heard a high pitched whine. When I tried to accelerate off the stop sign and cross traffic I again experienced a lack of power with an angry noise and the smell of smoke. The car was towed to the original dealership where the vehicle was purchased and it was confirmed that the rear axle had broken again just two months after having been replaced. I am unwilling to drive the vehicle again our of concern for my safety and that of others.
