Engine started rough idle, reduced power, poor acceleration, ticking and knocking noises, and a check engine light and a few other lights came on the dash. Safety was not a risk at time of incident. Problem has NOT been diagnosed yet BUT have done a ton of research and it’s all leading towards lifter failure/misfire issues. No warning lights or symptoms prior to sudden problems.

At approximately 500 miles, the vehicle started to shutter and misfire at highway speeds (60-70 mph). The check-engine -light began to flash at the same time. We have a video and this happened 3 times before taking it to the dealer. This is a safety concern because it began to lose power on the highway. The issue was confirmed by the dealer and found to be damaged connecting rod bearings.Gm engineers are aware of the vehicle and would not approve the ordering of a new engine by the dealer until the engine was completely torn down to the point of failure.

While driving a two lane road the adaptive cruise control detects oncoming traffic and improperly slows down or breaks unnecessarily. Most of the time the vehicle breaks so hard it will jolts me forward in my seat. I fear another car will be behind me and this will cause an accident. I have had my vehicle in the shop two (2) times to repair the issue. The dealership/service department has been able to replicate the issue by having one of their technicians drive the vehicle. The front camera has been replaced twice and I have been told every time they plug a new camera in the trucks interior and exterior lights "go crazy and flash". GM's response to this issue is "set the gap to mid" or simply "shut it off". They refuse to see this as an issue. Doing my research I found that the 2023 GMC Canyons have been recalled due to the same issue. I have brought this information to the sales department. However due to not being able to find this on General Motors website I have been told by the dealership/service department, and owner of the dealership that the information I found on NHTSA is insufficient and they can not go off this information.

Unintended acceleration in forward and reverse: the vehicle experiences unintended acceleration both in forward and reverse. While driving in heavy traffic, the vehicle continues to maintain throttle position for approximately two seconds after releasing the throttle, creating a dangerous situation where the vehicle continues to accelerate towards other cars. This defect requires emergency braking to prevent a collision. In reverse , the vehicle also holds throttle position after the accelerator is released. This results in the vehicle unintentionally accelerating in reverse at a rapid pace. This requires the driver to depress the brake moderately to control the reverse speed. During this event the driver is fighting against the motor with the brake pedal until the vehicle decided to stop accelerating on its own.

My engine developed a tapping sound about 10,000 miles into owning it. Wasn’t throwing any codes and it wasn’t extremely noticeable. I have been a mechanic for 20 years and knew something was wrong. Brought it to the dealership. They refused to investigate further due to no codes being on the computer fast-forward to 74000 miles on the vehicle. The engine locks up and leaves me stranded six hours away from home. Yes, the oil was changed religiously throughout the engine’s life, and all service was done through the dealership. I went back and forth with GM for weeks and they still refused to replace the engine on their dime. I was forced to come out of pocket 13000 dollars to replace the engine. Due to the warranty being out by 14000 miles. GM COULDN’T EVEN TELL ME WHY IT EXPLODED AND COULD NOT ASSURE ME THAT THE SAME ISSUE WOULD NOT HAPPEN TO MY REPLACEMENT ENGINE. 2nd engine started to DO THE SAME THING AFTER 8000 MILES AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AT THE DEALERSHIP. THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THERE WAS NO CODES. NOW I HAVE 30,000 MILES ON THE SECOND ENGINE AND I KNOW WITHIN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS IT’S GOING TO DO THE SAME EXACT THING BY THE WAY IT’S RUNNING. I’m disgusted. GM has personally put me in excessive financial strain and caused me serious anxiety. And now I’m driving around a ticking time bomb with no resolution.

The transmissions in this as well as several other models of GM as well as Ford products with these transmissions are known to have major issues. My particular vehicle has major transmission shipping issues that started right around 90,000 miles or so. It started with a hard shift occasionally and has now progressed to a consistant hard shift, as well as a major shudder issue in the 35-45 mph range as well as the 65-75mph range ( when shifting into applicable gears) this has gotten worse over the last few weeks. These GM/Ford collaboration transmissions have been faulty from their inception and are well known to start malfunctioning in the 80-120,000 mile range. Please recall these transmissions so that consumers are not faced with thousands of dollars in repairs in vehicles that should last well beyond the short life span of the transmissions. I have been quoted 62-6500.00 for a replacement as there is no rebuilding these transmissions according to the mechanics I have consulted...(some have cited part availability issues as a reason). This has been a well reported problem with these vehicles/ transmissions for years now with many complaints and issues about the faulty transmissions. Just google it. I don't understand why theu have yet to be recalled.

Recall for engine propulsion. Say that there is no remedy yet. I have read the warnings about what may happen and I am terrified to drive the vehicle. GM says to contact the dealer, dealer says to contact GM. No one wants to take initiative. If they cannot fix the car, they should buy the car go back so I can get something different. I have been driving an old car around because I’m am afraid of this one. Please help me.
