  • 2024 GMC SIERRA 1500
    - Ellicott City, MD

TWICE in the past month +. On [XXX] my wife and I were on our way to a family wedding and I was driving approx 75 MPH on [XXX]. I don't recall if I had cruise control on or not as I rarely use it. There was no vehicle was in front of me for hundreds of yards yet all of a sudden the vehicle started to brake very hard. I accelerated as I did not know what was going on and I had a car in back of me that started to gain. THEN last Friday ([XXX}) with my wife following me in her car on [XXX] through Ellicott City MD I was traveling at approx 25-30 MPH through a very small historic town when all of a sudden the same [XXX] thing happened. DEF no CC on . When we got to our destination I asked my wife if she saw my brakes come on suddenly?. She replied yes and said she saw the truck dip hard. I told her the brakes did it again. She said I should call the dealer. I did not as they are USELESS! THEN the electronics. On Star has a catalog of my complaints. The radio selections I make just disappear from the screen: Apple Car Play disappears from the touch screen and just goes dark. I have to stop the truck..(per on-star) open the door.. get out.. lock it.. wait 2 minutes.. get back in .. restart the truck, and this re-sets the computers(s). RIDICULOUS! I do not have Sirius but the radio goes dark often for about 2-3 seconds., then comes back on. I was told it is my I-Phone is causing this. [XXX]! What does my phone have to do with AM/FM radio?? I was told by GMC there is a patch to update the software. Koons GMC told me there was no such patch nor recall. I paid nearly $80,000 for this piece of [XXX]! The passenger rear view mirror is completely flat, not concave like every other mirror we’re used to on a passenger vehicle. This mirror glass is only used on the passenger mirror of the EV trucks for some unknown reason. It is completely unsafe in such a large truck without huge blind spots. Because it appears to be zoomed you can completely miss cars otherwise viewable in blind spot. This also makes setting the passenger mirror up for towing very challenging and also dangerous. In addition the software for the backup titling mirrors works as designed for about 20 seconds and then while still backing moves the mirrors back to the normal position making backing a trailer for example dangerous.

GM has discontinued a critical engine belt on the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3L eAssist. This makes the truck undrivable and unsafe to own, even though the vehicle is still under financing and only 7 years old. There is no available part, and no alternative has been offered by the manufacturer.

Safety Concern Report: 2024 GMC Sierra Gear Shifter Obstruction ? Vehicle Information: 2024 GMC Sierra [Specify 1500/2500/3500] [Optional: VIN Number] ? Description of the Problem: I am writing to report a design concern with my 2024 GMC Sierra. The location and height of the gear shifter on this vehicle significantly obstruct the driver’s view of the center infotainment screen and console, especially while seated in a normal, upright driving position. The gear shifter blocks important information such as navigation directions, ETA, media controls, and other on-screen notifications. This forces me to lean forward or reposition myself in an unnatural way while driving, which I believe creates an unnecessary distraction and increases the risk of driver error or loss of situational awareness. I have attempted to adjust my seating position, steering wheel angle, and seat height, but none of these adjustments fully resolve the obstruction. After discussing this issue with other owners online, I found that multiple GMC Sierra owners have experienced the same visibility problem. Some have even resorted to aftermarket modifications to address the design flaw. I believe this is a design oversight that affects safe vehicle operation. I respectfully request that GMC and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration review this issue for potential corrective action. ? Requested Action: Please investigate this safety concern and consider potential solutions, such as a recall, design revision, or retrofit option to improve screen visibility without forcing the driver into unsafe driving postures. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

  • 2019 GMC SIERRA 1500
    - Chandler, TX

I am writing to formally document an ongoing and serious issue with our 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 (VIN: [XXX] ), which I strongly believe may be related to the current GM recall involving L87 V8 engines—despite my vehicle not yet being included. Early last year, our family experienced a sudden and frightening loss of power while driving at full speed on a curve, with our children and their car seats secured in the back. The vehicle lost power abruptly, accompanied by a loud ticking noise from the engine. This incident could have easily led to a serious accident and was terrifying for all of us. Since that time, the truck has spent more than half the year in and out of repair shops. The initial repair estimate was nearly $20,000—unmanageable for us, especially since the vehicle is paid off. Fortunately, a family friend was able to repair it for significantly less, but the problems have persisted. Most recently, the check engine light returned and we experienced another episode of reduced power, suggesting an unresolved or recurring failure likely tied to internal engine components such as the long block, crankshaft, connecting rods, timing chain, or camshaft. This truck is essential for our family’s daily life—including commuting to work and school, and especially out-of-town travel. Our other vehicle, a 2007 Honda Accord, is much smaller and insufficient for our growing family. This ongoing issue has caused substantial disruption, stress, and financial strain. It has also delayed our ability to upgrade to a larger family vehicle, something we had planned and budgeted for before this ordeal. Given the severity and duration of the issue—and its apparent connection to the same engine problems affecting newer models—we want to ensure this situation is documented with the NHTSA and GM. We sincerely hope that the scope of the current recall will be expanded, and that appropriate relief or support will be offered to affected vehicle owners like us.
