I was with my two kids about to go on the highway as I accelerated at the speed of the 60 mph the truck completely shuts down I managed to move to the right shoulder my miraculously had to wait for a tow truck for 3 hours. Got truck towed to the dealership they told me it needed an engine and its back order took them 4 weeks to get ot done 2 days later check engine light came back on I was told only a misfire. I was without my truck for another 2 weeks. All this happened back in January of 2025

My gmc truck was stopped on a red light on a city street and suddenly the engine just shuts off, I have to restart the truck. This is not the first time that it did that. I can't imagine if this does happen on the freeway.

March 1, 2025, I was driving from Charlotte, NC east bound on highway 40 towards Wilmington and all of a sudden my car just stopped while I was in the left lane. I was able to cruise over to the right shoulder and park my car in front of a sign that read exit 298 a few feet ahead. From there I was on the highway about two hours trying to get a tow truck to tow my 2017 GMC Terrain to the nearest GMC dealership which so happened to be 10 miles away. Which the tow never came. My step father drove about 100 miles west to pick me and my daughters up. All night I was on the phone with one tow truck company after another and every one kept saying they couldn’t find my car. In the morning I called another tow and he was able to find my car in the same location I left it. It was a Sunday so I had to wait until Monday to follow up with GMC Thompson. They advised I needed engine work. I was told I needed, timing chains, compression, gear bolts. However my car had just been repaired in November 2024, because my car wouldn’t start up after work. GMC in Charlotte Liberty GMC they replaced the gasket, chains, pipes, pistons, bolts, screws, seals, valves, bearings, actuators, tensioners, manifold, I mean the engine was rebuilt basically. It Thompson GMC about month to repair the vehicle because they were waiting for parts. The last week Lisa my representative was able to get me a loner car. I’ve been driving the car for about almost 3 weeks and I’m still very Leary of it. Terrible experience and I don’t see any recalls for my year make and model but I believe I’m probably not the only one with this year make and model that has gone through this. There’s two dates so I’m not sure which date to put.

A valve spring broke while going around 40 mph. Was not accelerating when it happened. Destroyed the piston, head and cracked the block. Once apart found the AFM lifter had started to wipe a lobe on the cam. Engine shut off after running real rough luckily my son was able to pull over. Truck had regular service and taken good care of. My favorite truck I have ever had. Had 137,000 miles on the odometer. This could have ended badly.

3.0 LM2 Duramax engine failed at 91,000 miles. It needs a new engine and they are available with a 2-3 week wait time. The engine failure has been inspected and confirmed by the dealer. No symptoms or check engine lights were on prior to the failure. Problem first appeared 03/2025.

The contact's wife owns a 2020 GMC Yukon. The contact stated the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for a tune up. The contact stated that upon picking up the vehicle and driving, the transmission was slipping in and out of gear. Additionally, the contact stated while at a complete stop and depressing the accelerator pedal, the engine revved; however, the vehicle hesitated to respond, and the vehicle jerked while responding. The contact stated that the vehicle slowly picked up speed, and the transmission was slipping in and out of gear. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that his wife had noticed that the vehicle made an abnormal sound while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the torque converter had failed. The dealer determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 107,267.

In December 2024 took my GMC Yukon XL to a mechanic. They replaced the lifter in the driver side of the engine. 2500 miles later it is back in the shop for the same side. Now there is a bent rod. One of the lifter/Rod spots collapsed. The mechanic is in contact with the local GMC dealer to figure out what the next steps are. The recent symptoms had to have car towed back to Fairly reliable Bobs mechanic. Pictures were taken and sent to GMC. First time this happened I heard a Tic in the engine and took it straight to the mechanic. second time this happened. Engine light came on flashing, Trackton light came on, Lost power, there was a shimmy when slowing down and a shake at the stop. I will note the second time this happened below.

The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made an abnormally loud sound and was shaking abnormal. The vehicle lost motive power and failed to restart. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence, and the battery was replaced, but the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who determined that lifter #7 had no compression and that the crankshaft was bent. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic, who also determined that the crankshaft was bent and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000 .

The contact owns a 2019 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that occasionally while driving at various speeds, the vehicle independently shifted into neutral(N) and the vehicle lost motive power while the accelerator pedal was depressed. In addition, the vehicle had shifted from park(P) to drive(D) and into neutral(N). There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed; however, the cause of the failure was not identified. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

On April 21, 2025 around 11pm, I was entering my neighborhood, I was slowing to a stop, the truck shut off, shifted to neutral on its own. Clusters were still on though, no error codes other than instruction to turn ignition back on. I tried for over 20 minutes with no luck. I placed the truck in park and shut it off after that I couldn't get it change back to neutral. Was on the phone with onstar and recorded it. Eventually it turned on with check engine light, made it home. On April 22, 2025, I dropped it off at Classic Buick GMC 16835 Katy Fwy, Houston, Texas 77094. Service rep informed me I will require a new engine as there are metal shavings in the oil filter as a result of worn cam shaft bearings. They have had the truck at their shop since the incident.
