    - sunset, SC

URGENT SAFETY CONCERN/ISSUE On [XXX], while driving my 2026 Kia Carnival Hybrid SX Prestige, it lost all power without warning, leaving me unable to accelerate or control the vehicle. This created an unsafe situation as I was traveling at 40 mph when all power was lost. What happened to me was a serious safety hazard. The vehicle was brand new with only 1351 miles at the time. Several warning lights came on including the hybrid system warning light. The vehicle was not drivable; there was no power at all. I had to tow the vehicle to a Kia dealer where it took 17 days to repair with a new power module. On [XXX], (after the vehicle was repaired), I was driving the vehicle when the POWER alert flashed on the dashboard. I did not lose total power yet, but the literature advises that I take the vehicle into the dealership asap to have them look into the Power warning light coming on. I have an appointment on September 18, 2025. I have reported my issue to Kia customer service, and the dealership is aware of what is going on. I believe what is happening, (the abrupt loss of total power while driving) may be a widespread defect affecting the Carnival hybrid system in 2025 and 2026 model years. This is a serious safety issue that need corrected before someone is killed or seriously injured. Total loss of power at 40 mph or more cannot be permitted to happen. There should be some sort of safety bypass whereby the gas engine totally engages to the exclusion of the hybrid system, so total power is NOT lost at High speeds. • 2021 KIA SELTOS
    - Parma, OH

We bought a 2021 Kia Seltos new from Spitzer Kia Cleveland (June 2020) and kept up with regular maintenance. The vehicle is subject to two NHTSA recalls for defective piston oil rings (21V259000 in 2021 and 25V099000 in 2025; Kia SC209 & SC336). Component/system: piston oil rings and related engine parts. Vehicle is at Spitzer Kia and available for inspection. Timeline: [XXX] – Check engine light illuminated (solid). Dipstick dry. Dealer said likely recall issue. [XXX] – Vehicle brought to dealer. Staff first acknowledged probable piston-ring issue and possible engine replacement. Later same day they switched to an “oil consumption test” requiring us to drive 1,000 miles—possibly three rounds (3,000 miles total)—before they will even consider replacing the engine. We must top off oil ourselves during this time. Safety risk: Driving thousands of miles in a recalled vehicle with known oil-consumption defect could cause engine seizure, stall, loss of power, or fire, endangering us and others. Inspection/confirmation: Dealer inspected the vehicle 9/12/25. Manufacturer (Kia America) also contacted and gave same response. Warning lamps/symptoms: Check engine light appeared [XXX]; low oil level, no external leaks noted. We do not feel it is safe to comply with the driving tests. Dealer threatened to tow our car if we did not pick it up. We have complete service records, recall notices, and correspondence available. I am filing a formal complaint against Kia regarding Recall SC175 affecting this vehicle Kia has refused to perform this recall on my vehicle, claiming that the work was already completed. However, after reviewing the official campaign documentation (NHTSA Campaign Documentation – SC175), it is evident that the corrective work specified by the recall was not performed on my vehicle. My vehicle continues to exhibit the issue addressed by Recall SC175, confirming that either the recall was not carried out or was performed incorrectly. Despite this, Kia maintains that no further action is necessary because their records indicate completion. At this time, Kia is refusing to address a known safety recall. I am documenting this with NHTSA so that it is formally recorded that Kia is declining to remedy a required recall on one of their vehicles. Please advise on what steps I may take next to ensure compliance and resolution.

    - Apple Valley, CA

I am writing to bring to your attention several safety issues with my vehicle that have not been addressed despite my previous attempts to have them resolved. The first issue concerns the brake system on my vehicle, specifically the brake failure that I have been experiencing. The brakes on my vehicle are not functioning properly, and as a result, I have had multiple instances of brake failure which have put not only my safety but the safety of others at risk. Despite bringing this issue to the attention of your team, the necessary repairs have not been carried out, and the problem persists. This is extremely concerning as the continued malfunction of the brakes poses a significant threat to the safety of both myself and other road users. I urge you to take immediate action to rectify this issue and ensure that the brakes on my vehicle are functioning correctly. Furthermore, I would also like to highlight another safety issue with the seatbelt system in my vehicle. There have been instances where the seatbelt, the third row seat and passenger seat, fails to latch properly sometimes. I have personally experienced difficulties with the latching mechanism and have had to pay for the third-row seatbelt to be fixed as well. Given the critical role that seatbelts play in ensuring the safety of passengers in a vehicle, it is imperative that this issue is addressed promptly to prevent any potential accidents or injuries. I request that the seatbelt system in my vehicle be thoroughly inspected and repaired to ensure that it is functioning correctly and reliably. I trust that you will take the necessary steps to address these safety concerns promptly and effectively. Failure to do so not only compromises my safety but also places the lives of others at risk. I appreciate your prompt attention to these

    - Williamsburg, VA

Driving VA Interstate 64. Traveling right side travel lane approximately 70 mph. Had ADAS engaged. Car entering highway, moved to center travel lane to pass. As I approached entering highway car, suddenly, my car stalled, engine off and I was stopped in center travel lane. Able to start car by putting transmission in park and pressing start button. Called KIA Car Care Center - They have no record of this type situation occurring throughout country. Took car to dealer. Their Technology Service Rep checked whole system and found no problems including memory bank listing the stall/stoppage incident. I will go to dealer and ask for their report. 2nd incident. Happened within first month or ownership 10/23. I dismissed incident as something I must have done due to my lack of familiarity with new technology.
