  • 2023 LAND ROVER DEFENDER
    - Alpena, MI

SUPPLEMENTAL TO NHTSA COMPLAINT #11728718 (RECALL 26V248000) On March 2, 2026, my 2023 Land Rover Defender was at a dealership for approximately 3.5 hours for key fob programming. At that time, Jaguar Land Rover had an active service message (SSM76173) related to DC-DC converter failures. Within 24 hours of leaving the dealership, the DC-DC converter failed. The vehicle displayed a “Charging System Fault” warning and became inoperable, consistent with the failure described in my original complaint #11728718. I contacted the dealership immediately with information about the issue. They told me that what I experienced aligned with the DC Converter failures that have been reported. I asked if I could get my Defender picked up or if they could at least provide a loaner car if I could somehow get my Defender to them. The dealership declined towing assistance and did not provide a loaner vehicle, citing that I was beyond the mileage limit of the warranty. I was also told that loaner vehicles were reserved for customers who purchased their vehicle at that location. Because I live approximately 4 hours from the dealership and the vehicle was not safely operable, I arranged my own repair. Due to a national backorder, the vehicle was unusable for an extended period (about a month). I purchased a genuine replacement DC-DC converter and paid for expedited shipping. Total out-of-pocket cost exceeded $970. On April 23, 2026, Jaguar Land Rover issued Recall 26V248000 for this defect. Communication with JLR about this incident started on April 7, 2026. On April 23, 2026 at 8:05 am EST (following the announcement of the recall), I was offered a final settlement off of a $458 retailer credit. However, I was instructed that I needed to return to the dealership (4 hours away) for inspection of a vehicle that has already been repaired using an OEM part. I am submitting this update to document the failure, the repair, and the manufacturer’s response following the recall.

While I was driving, the vehicle shut down unexpectedly. I was sliding sideways across the road on ice on the side of a cliff and luckily was able to stop the vehicle before going off the side of the mountain. I had to entirely restart the vehicle to begin driving again.

Previous recall repair on rear spoiler falling off did not work and it is falling off again. Dealer and manufacturer will not re-repair the manufacturers defect nor their work, leaving the hazard unaddressed. Sees below. NHTSA, Please be advised that Jaguar Land Rover North America is not adhering to the required National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s official recall, 21V635000, where the rear spoiler falls off due to a manufacturers design defect and potentially can cause a serious accident, injury or even a fatality at highway speeds. The vehicle was previously fixed under recall, but that fix failed. VIN: [XXX] I have been advised by the owner/manager of Land Rover of the Treasure Coast that it is more important that they get reimbursed prior to fixing the defect, despite the safety of others on the road. This needs to be investigated. My concerns are: 1. Did Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) hoodwink NHTSA into a cheap, non-lasting fix just to satisfy the liability and recall requirement? If so, NHTSA should reissue another recall to recheck the previous recall to verify the fix was adequate and either do it again or develop another solution, bringing those affected vehicles in again for additional work. This is especially true since JD Power and other reputable car statistical reviews consistently rate this brand towards the bottom of reliability and repair costs. This historical point demonstrates why the NHTSA should not trust JLR. 2. How important is public safety? If a safety recall was important enough to be issued in the first place, how is it that a follow up repair for the same recall isn’t addressed? Why isn’t there a readily available avenue for reporting this shortcoming on the NHTSA website. Can anyone explain how if a safety recall campaign was important enough to be issued in the first place, why is it not if the same issue fails again, or if the approved resolution was inadequate? The steel fuel tank shield and mounting cradle assembly on my Land Rover Range Rover (L405) is experiencing catastrophic structural failure due to excessive corrosion. This appears to be a result of galvanic corrosion between the steel cradle and the aluminum chassis components. The corrosion has caused the metal straps and support brackets to rot through completely, compromising the physical security of the fuel tank. This poses an unreasonable safety risk, as the fuel tank is no longer properly supported and is at risk of detaching from the vehicle while in motion. Furthermore, the jagged, rusted edges of the failing shield are in direct contact with the fuel tank, creating a potential puncture hazard and subsequent fire risk. This is a known structural defect within the L405 community, often resulting in immediate vehicle grounding during safety inspections due to the risk of fuel system detachment.

I am filing a safety complaint regarding a sudden and complete loss of power event while driving my 2021 Land Rover Discovery. The vehicle experienced a DC-DC converter failure with no warning, resulting in a sudden shutdown. The engine lost power, critical systems went offline, and I was unable to shift the vehicle into neutral. The vehicle became immobilized in active traffic, creating a dangerous situation. This incident occurred without warning and left me with no ability to safely move the vehicle out of traffic or rely on normal emergency functions. This presents a serious safety hazard to both the driver and others on the road. The vehicle has been at the dealership since mid-January 2026. The dealer has stated that the DC-DC failure caused additional component failures. However, no root cause has been identified beyond “internal failure,” and I have not been provided confirmation that the system has been properly tested or that the issue will not recur. I am concerned that this failure can cause cascading electrical issues, including loss of the 12V system, impacting multiple critical vehicle functions at once. The lack of a clear diagnosis and verified repair raises concerns about reliability and safety. Given the sudden loss of power, inability to move the vehicle, and absence of a confirmed root cause or validated repair, I am formally requesting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration open a defect investigation into the MHEV/DC-DC system. This failure creates a significant safety risk, including vehicles becoming immobilized in active traffic without warning. The risk of recurrence without a defined cause is especially concerning and may indicate a broader issue.

My 2017 Land Rover, Range Rover has rusted fuel tank shields. I have owned this vehicle for seven of its nine years and has been babied. When I brought my Range Rover in for a NTSB MANDATED FACTORY RECALL THEY neglected even noting this issue. Which is a very common issue, I brought my rover into Hennessy Land Rover north atlanta on February 10th 2026. My service advisor was [XXX] . Not only did Hennessy north atlanta REFUSE TO REPAIR THE FEDERALLY MANDATED “SEVERE SAFETY” recall regarding my front suspension (may crack leading to a severe accident) as instructed by the NTSB— BECAUSE “THEY DIDNT HAVE THE PARTS FOR THE RECALL” — BUT IF YOU PAY THE $7000 they charge TO FIX THIS ISSUE , HAVING IT DONE IS NO PROBLEM. THE PARTS MAGICALLY APPEAR ?? for $7000. As stated, Hennessy did not even address the fuel tank cover issue. THEY DID NOT BRING IT UP The reason this problem occurs is because of a process called galvanic corrosion. The fuel tank shield is bolted onto an aluminum heat shield, and the pairing of these two different metals accelerates the corrosion. Land Rover has acknowledged this problem and it's given priority due to the fact that this is a safety issue being that these shields are also responsible for holding the tanks in place. ANOTHER SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE THAT LAND ROVER NORTH AMERICA IS CURRENTLY, SIMPLY IGNORING. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. IF HENNESSY CAN’T DO WHAT IS RIGHT THEY SHOULD BE SHUTTERED AND PETE ALVAREZ SHOULD BE FIRED. Please pass this along to Land Rover North America. This is my sixth Range Rover and after this experience will most likely be my last. I love this truck and I’ve loved all of them I’ve had. I’ve recommended them to friends but this was astonishing. Waited four hours for them to do NOTHING.FIX NOTHING. ADMIT TO NOTHING. ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. • 2015 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER
    - Frisco, Texas, United States, TX

Known Recall Issue: The failure pattern aligns with known manufacturer defect categories involving: •Engine torque / internal engine failure conditions •Cooling system failure leading to overheating Shortly after I purchased my 2015 Range Rover, I started to have repeated and escalating safety-critical failures involving sudden loss of power, engine malfunction, and vehicle shutdown while driving at highway speeds. The vehicle has experienced multiple incidents of complete or partial power loss while in motion, resulting in near-collision events. Despite repeated repairs by authorized dealerships, the underlying defect has not been resolved. The failure pattern suggests a systemic mechanical defect involving engine performance and cooling system integrity rather than isolated maintenance issues. The primary safety concern is sudden loss of propulsion while driving at highway speeds, which has occurred on more than one occasion. These incidents present a significant risk of: •Rear-end collisions •Loss of vehicle control •Serious injury or fatality TECHNICAL FAILURE PATTERN Observed progression of failure: •Oil leakage / burning smell •Internal engine degradation symptoms •Cooling system failure and overheating •Electrical instability •Final engine shutdown / seizure events This suggests a systemic mechanical defect affecting engine integrity and thermal management systems. REQUEST FOR INVESTIGATION I respectfully request NHTSA to: 1.Investigate potential safety defects in this vehicle and model year 2.Evaluate whether similar failures are occurring in other vehicles 3.Assess adequacy of existing recall coverage 4.Review risk associated with sudden engine shutdown while driving 5.Determine whether recall expansion or additional safety action is warranted

Per a factory recall — NTSB has ordered the following recall; Manufacturer Recall Number D027 NHTSA Recall Number 25V-514 Recall Status Recall Incomplete, remedy not yet available Summary A concern has been identified on certain 2014 and all 2015 to 2017 ModelYear Range Rover (L405) and Range Rover Sport (L494) vehicles where thefront suspension upper knuckle joint could develop a crack. In extremecases this may lead to detachment of the upper suspension arm. Safety Risk In extreme cases where a crack in the front suspension knuckle has developed, this may lead to detachment of the upper suspension arm, which under extreme avoidance maneuver use conditions may compromise the vehicle's controllability and increase the risk of a crash. This has been identified by independent mechanics as well, as a SEVERE safety concern. When this vehicle was taken to Hennessy Land Rover of north atlanta; they advised me that “they didn’t have parts for the recall”. Although they explained to me if I paid out of pocket for the work they had the parts to do the task. Service advisor is Peter Alvarez. SO THEY DON’T HAVE THE PARTS FOR AN NTSB RECALL? UNLESS I HAVE $6000/$7000 For a recall with a “SEVERE SAFETY RISK”? THIS IS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. THESE PEOPLE SELL $120,000 TRUCKS AND THEN REFUSE TO UNDERTAKE GOVERNMENT MANDATED RECALLS. THEIR EXCUSE IS “WE HAVE THE PARTS BUT ONLY IF YOU BUY THEM”. This is totally unacceptable. I have a wife and a small child who ride in this SUV and have owned the car for 7 of its 9 years on the road. Always immaculately maintained If HENNESSY LAND ROVER (NORTH ATLANTA) refuses to perform government mandated recalls they should not be doing business. Especially with “SEVERE SAFETY RISK— I SAT FOR FOUR HOURS FOR THEM TO COME OUT AND TELL ME THIS — this is my sixth Range Rover. If this is not remedied never again.
