  • 2016 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER

    The contact owns a 2016 Land Rover Range Rover. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at an independent mechanic for an unrelated repair, the mechanic discovered that the underbody shield located underneath the vehicle to protect the fuel tank had deteriorated severely, exposing the fuel tank. The shield was the original part and functioned as a skid plate for the undercarriage; however, due to the corrosion, the fuel tank was no longer protected. The dealer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 103,000.

  • 2016 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER SPORT

    The contact owns a 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact stated that the suspension warning lights were intermittently flashing. The contact was notified about NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V514000 (Steering); during a State Inspection. The local dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were on backorder. The contact called two other dealers, Land Rover Dublin (5775 Venture Dr Ste B, Dublin, OH 43017), and Land Rover Easton (3867 Morse Rd Suite L, Columbus, OH 43219). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 163,000.

  • 2020 LAND ROVER DEFENDER
    - Portland, OR

    I am reporting a systemic failure of exhaust manifold retaining bolts on the 2020 Land Rover Defender (L663, P400 engine). While removing the engine skid plate, I discovered a fractured exhaust manifold bolt that had fallen down. The bolt head had separated, leaving the threaded portion in the cylinder head. There are I believe 12 manifold bolts securing the integrated exhaust manifold/turbocharger assembly, & multiple owners have documented similar failures, including cases with multiple broken bolts on one vehicle. The exhaust manifold is integrated with the turbocharger and is part of the emissions control pathway. This assembly operates at extremely high temps. Based on the pattern of failures, repeated thermal cycling and inadequate fastener material appear to cause bolt fatigue and fracture. When bolts break, proper clamping force is lost and hot exhaust gases escape directly into the engine compartment rather than remaining sealed within the manifold/turbo assembly. This presents serious safety concerns: Fire risk: Escaping exhaust gases from a turbocharged engine can exceed 1,000°F. These gases are released near wiring, plastic components, insulation, and other materials. Loss of sealing increases the risk of localized overheating and engine compartment fire. Exhaust gas intrusion: Exhaust leaks at the manifold can allow exhaust gases to enter the passenger compartment. Emissions defect: As this leak occurs upstream of emissions control components, unmetered exhaust gases escape before entering the emissions system, affecting federally regulated emissions compliance. This costs thousands to fix and owners are going to ignore it due to cost & unawareness. Multiple vehicles across varying mileages have experienced this issue, suggesting a systemic design or material defect rather than normal wear. Exhaust manifold fasteners should not fracture under normal operating conditions on a vehicle with 30,000 miles.

  • 2021 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER SPORT
    - Calhoun, LA

    Vehicle was operating normally on interstate traffic at 70mph when vehicle suddenly flashed "Charging system fault" and the vehicle then would not accelerate and dropped to 25 mph. Trying to exit the interstate and vehicle went into limp mode and battery icon showed up. Had to be towed to Range Rover dealership Range Rover said the issue was a DC / DC converter. They replaced this and are now saying the BISG alternator is at fault. Repairs will be close to 8k without a confirmation this will be the fix. Not comfortable driving the vehicle even with the 'fix." A vehicle "Dying" on the interstate at interstate speeds is dangerous. The problem is known on the internet and by range rover. Not sure if component has been inspected. 2021 Range Rover Sport 53k miles

  • 2023 LAND ROVER DEFENDER

    On 2/18/26 the vehicle electrical system stopped working. I unlocked teh vehicle with an emergincy key inside the keyfob. Once towed back to the dealer I was informed that the DC-to-DC converter failed causing the entire electical system to fail/immobilized the vehicle. The part will take 3-4 weeks to receive. Doing my own desk research I see that this is common issue and in many cases reoccurring b/c the part is replaced with a version that is also failing (look at how many different part #'s have been issued).

  • 2020 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER SPORT
    - stratford, NJ

    While traveling at highway speeds, the vehicle suffered a sudden and total loss of motive power (high-speed stall) without prior symptoms. A "Charging System Fault" message appeared seconds before the engine and all critical electrical systems shut down. This failure occurred in active traffic, resulting in the immediate loss of power steering and electronic braking assistance, creating an imminent collision risk for the occupants and surrounding motorists. Component Failure: The authorized dealer confirmed the failure of the DC-DC Converter (original part LR176476), which regulates the 48V-to-12V charging cycle. The component is currently held by the dealer and available for inspection. The failure caused a secondary total depletion of the 12V battery, rendering the vehicle's safety lighting and hazard signals inoperable. Manufacturer Awareness: The dealer confirmed the original part has been discontinued and superseded by a revised design (Part 433123472) due to known defects. Furthermore, the dealer stated that multiple other vehicles are currently grounded at their location awaiting the same backordered safety component. There is currently no estimated time of arrival for the revised part, leaving the vehicle indefinitely sidelined due to a systemic manufacturing flaw.

    The vehicle experienced an electrical issue regarding a DC/DC converter that went bad after the manufacturer software update. The vehicle displayed warnings that the vehicle needed to come to a stop and that the electrical system, in regards to the safety systems were not functioning. This includes the airbag systems, charging systems, and SOS systems.

  • 2022 LAND ROVER DEFENDER
    - NEWBURYPORT, MA

    The DC converter on our 2022 Land Rover Defender 110 failed. We received some electrical fault notices that would come and go inconsistently a few days before the incident. Land Rover told us to drive the car to the dealer to get repaired, even when we asked whether that was safe. On the way to the dealer, the car completely turned off in the middle of traffic and became a brick and had to be towed in negative degree weather to the dealer where it has sat for a month today. The car shutdown/lost control on Rt 1 in Massachusetts and was fortunately able to steer off the road into a parking lot before it became a brick in the middle of a parking lot, not in a spot or anything. The dealer expects this is a DC converter problem but the car is a complete brick and cannot turn on or be moved around at the dealer until the part arrives. We've been told the part is on back order for months and there is no timeline for when it will be repaired.
