When I was driving down the road there have been times that I smelled smoke and was concerned my car was on fire. I checked the oil and inspected around my car, and didn't find the source. Today when I took my car in for service I found out the source of the smoke has been for the past 4 months. There is engine oil leaking from the timing cover that I was informed by my Lexus Dealership today would cost $7,000 (approximate) to fix. I researched online and found that all vehicles with this particular engine are known to have this problem, and it is fairly common. Leaking oil can be a fire hazard, and it seems unacceptable that Lexus/Toyota let this issue continue without addressing it with a recall. Thanks for your time, and I have also sent a similar letter to Lexus also to let them know of my concern.

The contact owns a 2021 Lexus ES350. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V865000 (Air Bags); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

When Automatic Height Control system check warning light comes ON, both LX570 traction control system and ABS behave strangely. This happened three time in one day. When the vehicle was in standing in an uphill to join the road, during acceleration, traction control system light starts to splash, vehicle would not move and hesitates. One has to drive slowly to avoid wheels spinning and making noise. When exiting from one highway and trying to join another highway in an uphill exit, when the brake is applied gently to control my speed, vehicle came to abrupt stop surprising myself and the 4 vehicles behind so much so that behind vehicles has to swerve hitting my car. Never seen this problem before.

Reference vehicle has only 71000 miles, yet according to Lexus dealer the rust has covered so much that vehicle is unrepairable compared to the car value. The rust has spread to frame that caused it to be to safety issue for the occupants. The suspension and associated parts have rusted, and fluids are leaking. Lexus hid the rust information during regular maintenance at the dealership only to claim that warranties are not honored for rust specially when extended warranty is just over.

NEW 2024 GX550, less than 2 months and 3,000 miles of ownership- accelerating to 40 mph and vehicle completely shut off, jolting me forward. All lights on dash lit up, "power steering failure, engine failure, not safe to drive." It was all I could do to get it off to the shoulder of the road. Extremely dangerous. Had vehicle towed to local Lexus dealer. After 2 weeks master tech determined timing chain snapped causing catastrophic engine failure. Now we wait for Lexus corporate to advise them on how to fix. Both dealer and corporate blaming each other for the lack of communication. Vehicle has been sitting in dealer parking lot for 3 weeks with no timeline and no communication. I was told by head service tech this is #5 in the country for this year, make, and model of timing chain snap resulting in engine failure. Neither parties are doing anything to make it right. This is an $85,000 vehicle.

Sudden unexplained acceleration, Vehicle is available for inspection for limited amount of time next week vehicle will be taken by insurance company. This involved the CARGO LID at the rear of the vehicle. I could have been KILLED or TOTALLY PARALYZED by the incident. I have not brought the vehicle to a dealer, nor has any other authority inspected it. Also, there was no warning. During cold weather days, the lid would open normally and when it was fully opened it would start descending in small steps. I then would physically lift it to the full open position and it would stay there until I was finished (loading or unloading) then it would close normally after I pushed the "close" button. This particular cold day incident, I physically lifted it to the top then went to get a box to load. As I approached the vehicle the lid came slamming down with a bang. Had I gotten there a few seconds earlier my head and neck would have been inside the cargo area and the lid would have slammed down on my head or neck, possibly killing me or paralyzing me with a broken neck. On non cold days the lid operates normally. However, I now use a two by four to prop the lid in the open position regardless of the daily temperature.

Driving car experienced a loud thump. Lost all engine power. Pulled to side of road. Had a hybrid system unavailable warning. Called a tow. Checked oil level to find it below the low mark. Car left a huge puddle of oil when loaded. Got to dealership. They found a hole in the engine block. Engine seized. Looms like it was the rod for the first cylinder. This issue sounds like what was the 2020 model years recall. My car had 128k on it all maintenance was completed on time, at the dealership. I regularly check oil level, and it was within normal range.

Air fuel imbalance. Air fuel ratio Imbalance. Rough idling. System too rich bank 1. Requires cylinder head removal. Other VIN#'s recalled; however, my vin # was not accounted for though experiencing the exact issues and codes.

The contact owns a 2020 Lexus NX300. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The message "Reduced Speed" was displayed, and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over and was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who determined that the cylinder head needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,283.
