2024 MAZDA CX-50- Howard Beach, NY
For about one week now. The BLIND SPOT MONITORING SYSTEM FAILS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. IT WORKS WHEN YOU START THE CAR, WORKS IN LITE TRAFFIC. BUT ON THE HIGHYWAY OR HEAVER TRAFFIC IT STOPS WORKING. THE DEALER SAID IT WORKED WHEN TEST DRIVEN FOR 10 MINUTES. AFTER BLIND SPOT STOPS FUNCTING THEN THE CROSS TRAFFIC ALERT FAILS. OUR CARGO BAY DOOR REFUSED TO CLOSE YEATERDAY. ALL BUTTONS JUST CAUSE A BEEP TO SOUND. AFTER 10 MINUTES , RESTATRING THE CAR, LOCKING & UNLOCKING THE DOORS BY REMOTE & INSIDE SWITCH. I HAD TO PHYSICALLY CLOSE THE HATCH AGAINST THE MOTOR. THE BLIND SPOT FAILED ON THE RIDE HOME FROM THE DEALER WHEN SURROUNDED IN TRAFFIC. VIDEO MADE OF FAILUER.

THE BLIND SPOT MONITORING STOPS AFTER A FEW MINUTES ON THE HIGHWAY. DEALER SAID NO TROUBLE FOUN D. WHEN IN TRAFFIC IT STOPS WORKING, BACKING UP NO NOTIFICATION CROSS TRAFFIC, CARGO DOOR STUCK OPEN. ADTER 10 MINUTES SHUTTING OFF CAR. RESTARTING, TRYING INSIDE BUTTON, DOOR BUTTON AND THE REMOTE. THEY ALL FAILED TO CLOSE DOOR. HAD TO MANUALLY CLOSE CARGO HATCH. IT WORKED THE NEXT MORNING. THE BLIND SPOT, CROSS TRAFFIC DOESNT WORK! IT WORKS FOR A FEW MINUTES AFTER STARTING CAR BUT UNDER TRAFFIC CONDTIONS IT FAILS TO NOTIFY ON BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE. IT FAILED FIRST ON PASSENGER SIDE. NOW BOTH SIDES FAIL IN HEAVY TRAFFIC CONDITIONS. I HAVE VIDEOS TO PROVE THE FAILURES.

The vehicle reboots the screen/infotainment system while driving. The dealership has updated the software and replaced the screen (Screen was at my cost). They reset the codes and it comes back. This is a safety hazard as it could cause non compliance with the FMVSS in regards to rear-view cameras being required. There is currently a settlement in place under a class action.

While driving down highway the car suddenly will stop accelerating. Once this occurs the check engine light will turn on and shortly after the battery light will turn on. The car will not move and the AC will then stop working. The first time the car was brought to dealership (under warranty). They had to replace battery, fuel pump and fuel level indicator. They stated the fuel pump was broken as was the fuel level indicator. They were able to reproduce the problem prior to fixing it the first time. Less than a month after the car was repaired the exact same issue happened. This is a significant safety concern as I was driving on the highway with a [XXX] child in the back seat when the car stopped driving the second time. I was barely able to get over a lane and off the road before the car stopped driving. The AC then stopped working on a day where the feels like temperature was over 100. I had to lay wet cloths over my infant to prevent her from overheating while we waited for AAA and a family member to reach us. The inability to accelerate/sudden stopping of the car while driving on a highway with a speed limit of 70mph posed a significant safety risk to my life, my child’s life and potentially other cars if they weren’t able to stop. I had to wave frantically at the car in the lane next to me so that they wouldn’t hit me. No warning lights came on until after the issue (stopped accelerating) occurred. The dealership (Mazda) now has the car again and will be inspecting it. I have files from the first incident however they are in the car. Once I get my car back I can send over the reports of what they replaced/work completed. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The radio changes stations by itself, speakers/music goes in and out. The screen freezes and cannot change stations. And also the car lags on taking off sometimes. Often smells like fuel when you turn on the car, Assuming a fuel pump issue, not sure. I spoke to the salesman who sold me the car (adam) within less than 30 days of having the vehicle and told me the electrical issue with radio would be covered. Then when I called to have the issue fixed I was told it wasnt going to fixed on their behalf. This car was sold to me with a few issue that I was not aware at the time of purchase.

My infotainment system regularly ghost jumps between screens and adjusts the volume of music (both on CarPlay and regular radio) by itself. The car turns off CarPlay regularly, including the navigation, which is dangerous when you are not sure where you are going. The sound is the worst part of it, as it will change the volume to unhealthy levels without warning. Even turning it off does not stop the jumping, as it turns itself back on. While Mazada did provide an extended warranty for this exact problem, they will not cover the display which they allege is the problem in my car and told me it is a $600 replacement fee that I am fully responsible for, even though their screen does not work. This issue is all over the internet with Mazda refusing to fix it but it's an issue that can cause serious safety issues (with navigation failing and especially with unexpected volume changes). There is no rhyme or reason to when it happens and when it doesn't. It will be fine for a few days and then not work at all for a day. This has been ongoing for about a year. My car has about 55,000 miles on it.

*This is not part of the class action lawsuit* Per attorneys for the complaint, this issue is not part or covered by that lawsuit* This is concerning the infotainment system and what is known by Mazda as “ghosting”. Mazda for safety disables touch screen while car is out of park or driving. The ghosting issue ( which simulates touching of the screen) has overridden the safety lock out feature. While driving or in gear, the ghosting issue will increase radio volume to max, start beeping, changing different features, place calls etc. This sudden unexpected “ghosting” startled me and distracted me from safe driving. This can lead to accidents. Mazda is aware of this issue as they issued a warranty extension due to a previous complaint with the NHTSA in 2019. However, Mazda did not change the defective part/s in their vehicles and the issue continues on 2020 models. In my 2020 Mazda CX-5 this issue has been happening for approximately 2 years getting progressively worse.

2021 MAZDA MAZDA6- SOLON, OH
The Infotainment system malfunctions. The rear view camera freezes, not with the current conditions but a still picture of a street I do not recognize. This puts not only myself at risk for an accident but those of others as well. This malfunction has been taken into the dealership on two different occasions. Each time the dealer couldn't solve the issue. There is currently a class action lawsuit regarding the Infotainment system.

2017 MAZDA MAZDA6- Mansfield, OH
The part was purchased via Rock auto and installed at home DIY. The vehicle failed to return form "maintenance" mode for the rear parking brake. Took it to a Mazda dealer and they determined the Calipers were both manufactured incorrectly or the "spline gear" in the rear of the caliper that meshes to the Electronic Parking Brake actuator. This caused the parking brake to stay in maintenance mode, making it unusable for parking nor emergency braking, making the vehicle undrivable. It also caused Damage that incurred costs for parts and labor of the vehicle. The vehicle can still be driven and the only way to know its potentially unsafe is the light in the dash for the brake maintenance mode. At this time its unclear if this is the only issue with this part. Jason at Dynamic Friction technical support is investigating.

Infotainment system went dark and I cannot get it to come back on. I’ve read that this has been an ongoing issue and is covered in Mazda cx5 models up to 2020 thru a class action lawsuit, but my one is a 2021 (manufactured we’ll before 2021 though) with a virtually identical system.
