Rear suspension cross-member corroded to the point that a minor pothole separated the right lower control arm mounting point from the cross-member, rendering the car undrivable. The rest of the car is fairly rust-free.

The vehicle displayed "Engine Malfunction have your vehicle inspected" on the dash along with orange lights. The vehicle would drive but without warning would not come up to speed. This caused an unsafe situation entering the interstate where the vehicle was below the minimum speed until we could exit the highway. There was no warning of the low power and inability to operate normally. This was a known problem and the vehicle had all of the recalls already performed. Dealer states there is a problem with the low pressure fuel pump. I am not confident the problem will be solved.

Hybrid battery failure. Battery issue can cause car to lock up while driving. Dealer service department indicate they have at least 6 vehicles with this same issue. The vehicle has not been inspected by other than the dealership service department that I am aware of. While driving to the dealership for a routine oil change, the car made a quick odd noise then 3 alerts came on said Hybrid system malfunction have vehicle inspected, engine malfunction, system malfunction. Dealer inspected vehicle determined needed a hybrid batter replacement, indicated they could not say vehicle was safe to drive as it could just stop working. Considering they already have a number of cars with same issues in the shop I am concerned this could be a defect problem in many vehicles.

The cylinder head in the engine cracked while I was driving. The vehicle was leaking oil profusely and was down a quart after the oil had been changed the week prior. There were no warning lights or indication and I had just had the vehicle in the dealership the week before. I'm a disabled driver that requires hand controls so if I needed to exit the vehicle and move away from it it would not be possible. It's been at the dealership since 2/24/25. I have found numerous other people that have experienced the same issue online.

First issue: Rough idle at start. The interior cabin vibrates enough to question the vehicle quality. The rough idle lasts about 40 seconds then engine switches to smooth vibration. It's actually unnerving. Second issue: it's well known in 2025 Mazda installed the Toyota RAV4 hybrid engine and transmission into the CX-50. The current ICE engine model had to be modified. As a result there are some structural issues that may become problematic. The front passenger door scrapes against the interior fender. During manufacturing to cover up the defect Mazda purposely offset the passenger side fender mask the defect. This should seriously can into question the structural integrity of the vehicle. The primary concern is by offsetting the fender have the impacted the ability of the crumble zones in this area? Additionally, the front passenger door may become stuck since there is no uniformity in the panel alignment. This should raise caution since the modifications necessary to accommodate the hybrid system my have impacted overall vehicle integrity.

I am having my brake pads changed at a local mechanic and when changing the pads, the mechanic was unable to change them because the rotors and calipers were rusted and the brake pistons stuck. The previous recall only considered Mazda 6 up to 2013 but my 2018 has had the same problem.

With only 60k miles on my car which I regularly take in for maintenance, my car started to leak a ton of oil. It was determined that the cylinder head is cracked. This should not happen on a car this new and maintained. In doing research, this seems to be a common occurrence with this year.

Cracked cylinder causes oil leak in 2018 Mazda CX-5. May occur in other model year CX-5 as well. Issue was inspected by an authorized dealer. Repair by Mazda not performed because vehicle was a few months past warranty expiration date. On [XXX], I was the operator of a 2019 Mazda CX-5 in Los Angeles, California. I parked the vehicle on an incline on or around [XXX] in Los Angeles, California, and then exited the vehicle. The vehicle remained stationary for some time, until it suddenly began rolling backwards at a speed that pushed me to the ground while I was getting my things from the passenger side door, causing me serious injuries. I own a CX5 2018 Mazda with around 31,000 miles on it. Two days ago I experienced a smoke/fume event in my car while driving. The cabin filled with burnt oil fumes and a pungent smell. I happened to be near a Mazda dealership and was able to reach it with windows down and slow driving. The dealership inspected my car and confirmed a large oil leak caused by a cracked cylinder head. I was told this is a known issue with Mazda CX5/CX9 series and that it would be covered under warranty. Today I was informed by the same dealership that my standard powertrain warranty will not cover it, as it is 60,000 miles or 5 years. My car only has 31,000 miles on it, but it’s over the 5 years by little over a year. I am looking at paying around $6,500 out of pocket to fix my vehicle. I asked if there is an extended warranty from Mazda specifically regarding cylinder heads, due to this being a known defect, however the service person said there isn’t for my car. After some online research I did come across an extended powertrain warranty applying to 2019-2020 CX5 models due to the cylinder head cracking issues. I ask that this is being looked into and that the warranty needs to be extended to the 2018 model as well.
