I entered my vehicle one day to find what looked to be cracks in the top left hand corner of my center display infotainment screen. However, they appeared to be internal and could not be felt. After doing some research, I came across Service Alert SA-008/18 from Mazda which covered this issue on 2016-2018 CX-9s, among other models. I also found a memo dated May 6, 2020, which detailed an extension of warranty service for these internal display cracks. I took my vehicle to my Mazda dealership who inspected the vehicle and told me they would be filing a claim with Mazda for the repair of the screen since there wasn't a current recall for this issue on my vehicle. Mazda agreed to partially cover the replacement with me being responsible for a $543 copay. I have spoken to Mazda Corporate about this resolution being unacceptable. This issue is a known manufacturing defect on earlier models of the CX-9, and it is obviously still an issue on the 2019 models. I explained to them that this was in no way a fault of my own and I feel that the screen should be replaced at no charge to me, which was the procedure for those affected by this issue with 2016-2018 models. As of right now, the cracks only affect the top left corner of my screen but I have read of many instances where vehicle owners had the cracks continue to spread, which I feel is very distracting to the driver. I strongly feel that Mazda should be performing a goodwill replacement in full for this issue at no cost to me as the consumer, and I am very disappointed that so far they are unwilling to do so.

The contact owns a 2015 Mazda CX9. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 MPH, the vehicle shut off. The contact stated that the engine was overheating. The contact restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle stalled again. The vehicle continued to coast into a parking lot. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the water pump, timing chain, cam phaser, timing chain tensioner, and an engine replacement were needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 124,000.

I have a 2024 Mazda CX-5 but this is in any model and year that has the Adaptive Radar Cruise Control. When you set the distance you want to follow the vehicle in front of you, you will go the speed you are going until you come to the space you have set for the vehicle in front of you. Your vehicle will slow to match that vehicles speed. If that vehicle slows down, you will slow down. What it doesn't do it turn on your brake lights so the vehicle behind you knows that your vehicle is slowing down. Sometimes if the vehicle in front of you slows down fast, so does your vehicle. You have no control how fast it does that, it just does it. Now if the vehicle behind you doesn't realize that your vehicle has done this, well it has been very close two times so far. I do not want my new car rear ended. I did not know it did this with the brake lights and Mazda doesn't tell you that you have no brake lights when this happens. Why would they have a setup like this. It is like brake checking the vehicle behind you. I do not use my cruise control for that reason. It would be nice to be able to use it on a new car but I do not want to get hurt or get someone else hurt by doing so. I did contact Mazda and they know it does that. This is what they told me "Case Number [XXX]   Hello. My name is Dominique. I am sorry that you have had some very close calls while slowing down while vehicles were behind you. As for the question you had asked about cruise control activating the brakes when your vehicle starts to slow down, it does not activate the brake lights. It is just like when you are driving without cruise control and you go to take your foot off of the gas pedal instead of using the brake to slow down, it would not activate brake lights either unless you actually mash the brakes, the same with cruise control. Thank you for being a part of the Mazda family. " Isn't that great. At 15k mi the rear left wheel started to squeal. Took car to dealer, they claimed all brake pads on the car worn out and replaced all of them (front+back), paperwork is available. That's an indication of a design defect impacting the brake system, this is not acceptable. Next week I was driving in winter storm and at one point the car started shifting to the left. I managed to regain control, dashcam video is available. I used to have a 2016 CX-5 and it experienced exactly the same issue. At one point dealer wanted to change brake pads after just 6k mi, I replaced them myself and noticed that the pads were worn unevenly, but it was easier to get rid of the car back then. The number of reports similar to mine is overwhelming, it is sad to see NHTSA not taking any action on this life threatening ticking time bomb.

I recently bought a Mazda CX-9 and noticed that my vehicle was slightly overheating. The coolant level was very low. I took it back to the dealership I bought it from and they confirmed that there was a crack in the cylinder head and are working on the repair. After further research, I am seeing this is common with these models. Mazda is aware but not taking responsibility.

Vehicle is in normal mode with EV mode engaged, car is going 70mph and suddenly accelerator stops working and decelerates to ~60mph until vehicle suddenly aggressively switches to gas mode and accelerates again.

Humming from cooling fans in headlights. Very distracting sound that only shuts off when headlights eventually go off.

Headlights are exceptionally dim, especially low beams. Recall for other models within same year not considered valid for this particular car. Ongoing but has gotten worse.

Touch screen on vehicle making random selections on its own, causing potentially dangerous distractions to myself while driving. There are also dead spots on screen where touch does not work. Reads error code "B108E04 Display-System Internal Failure"

Both lower front control arm ball joints squeak when turning vehicle at slower speeds. Squeaking sounds were noticed at 970 miles. Dealer applied grease as a temporary fix per Mazda TSB #02-002/23. This is a family SUV and I take my wife and kids in it. I am concerned that this is a safety issue as there is a high chance of the lower control arm ball joint failing resulting in inability to steer vehicle in the proper direction. Please look into this issue. Thank you.
