I purchased a Certified Pre-Owned Mazda CX-70 that exhibits intermittent and unpredictable steering behavior, creating a significant safety concern. The steering will intermittently stiffen and then pull the vehicle left or right without driver input, at times toward oncoming traffic or the breakdown lane, requiring immediate correction. On straight roads, the vehicle does not consistently track and will drift unpredictably. When driving over minor road variations (such as small bumps or frost heaves), the steering wheel may jerk suddenly in the opposite direction. The vehicle also intermittently behaves as though lane-keeping assistance is active—auto-correcting relative to lane lines—despite all lane assist features being turned off. In multiple instances, the vehicle has tracked erratically along lane lines or navigated slight curves without driver input. The issue occurs unpredictably but is more pronounced on rural or uneven roads and during initial driving, though it can persist on highways as well. The issue caused several near miss accidents-twice it sent my vehicle careening into oncoming traffic; another time it tried to drive me back toward a pedestrian I was driving around intentionally. Driver has to be at constant heightened attention to avoid accident. Multiple repair attempts were made, including replacement of the steering column. The condition temporarily improved but returned and worsened. During the final repair attempt, dealership foreman, master technicians, and manufacturer technical support were involved, and the condition was ultimately deemed a “characteristic” with no repair available. The vehicle remains unrepaired and unsafe to operate. The dealer is refusing to supply the customer with any details of the repair order and diagnostic work that was done. The manufacturer has agreed to repurchase the vehicle under lemon law, confirming the defect could not be resolved.

According to your recall that states: Recall date 2024-01-17 Recall no. 24V022000 Mazda North America Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2024 CX-90 vehicles. An assembly issue with the worm gear in the steering system may result in a sudden loss of power steering assist. Recall consequence Loss of power steering assist while driving increases the risk of a crash. My car is not included in this recall according to my VIN number, however my car is doing the same thing described above in the recall. I am requesting that ALL Mazda CX 90 vehicles be in this recall. I took it to the dealership and although there hasn’t been a serious injury yet, there absolutely could be if it is not fixed.

I am reporting multiple ongoing safety and reliability issues with my 2024 Mazda CX-90, which have persisted despite multiple service visits and the vehicle being under warranty. Issues include: •Premature tire wear: OEM Falken tires worn to unsafe levels (approximately 3/32”) before 15,000–20,000 miles •Faulty fuel gauge providing inaccurate readings •Intermittent headlight malfunction, creating visibility and safety concerns •Battery failure requiring replacement at approximately 24,000 miles •Engine malfunction warnings advising the vehicle should not be driven •Loud and abnormal brake noise •Remote start system failure The vehicle has been out of service for an extended period (10+ days), and I no longer feel it is safe or reliable to operate. I am particularly concerned about the overall safety of this vehicle given the pattern of system failures and reports of similar issues. Mazda has not provided a resolution beyond continued repairs, and I have lost confidence in the vehicle’s safety.

While parked on a slight downhill grade, gasoline started leaking and created a significant puddle on the ground. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms. An independent service center ran numerous tests over two days, including a smoke test. Diagnosis: There is a hole in top section of fuel tank and the fuel tank needs replaced. Recommendation was to not drive vehicle with fuel tank over half full. Due to the potential of leaking fuel in the presence of a hot ignition source increasing the risk of fire, driving the vehicle long distance with defective fuel tank appears to represent an unreasonable safety risk. Unfortunately, the vehicle is currently 300 miles from home. Mazda’s Mexican-made plastic fuel tank specifically required for our vehicle’s VIN is not currently available. (Mazda makes a similar metal fuel tank in [XXX] which will not fit.) Mazda has an estimated three-month backlog in [XXX] for the fuel tank. Still awaiting repair due to lack of availability of the appropriate fuel tank. Major safety recall NHTSA 16V684000 for the 2015 Mazda3 addresses a manufacturing defect where a fuel tank weld could fail, leading to fuel leaks and a potential fire. Recall is for vehicles produced between 12/4/13 – 9/18/15. Our vehicle was manufactured 02/2015 in [XXX] . However, recall is limited to three specific series of VINs and our vehicle falls in the gap between subject VIN ranges. A recent NHTSA complaint XXX (1/27/26) has the same issue: fuel tank leak, but not within range of recall VINs. It seems that the list of affected VINs included in recall 16V684000 should be expanded to include additional Mexican manufactured vehicles potentially with the same issue. Or create a new recall. Having a hole in the top of a plastic fuel tank securely mounted to the vehicle is unexpected through normal wear and tear. Any fuel leakage increases the risk of fire. Purchased the Mazda Cx-90 2024 and was told that all recalls had been cleared and completed. Steering recall for worm gear and grease had been cleared. Not consistent but when taking turns will have a sudden jerk and increase in steering, especially with left turns. called and reported to Mazda dealership and told by mechanic that this needed to be reported due to an undergoing investigation on recalls that were not truly resolved by Mazda. The vehicle was cleared of inspection in 2024 prior to our purchase. No wrecks but concerned this could lead to one.

There is a recall for earlier models regarding "break clunk." The parking break, when sitting overnight in cold or wet environments, makes a loud bang noise when going into motion for the first time. The parking break seems to be sticking to something.

While I was driving on the highway, I went to use my front wipers and there was no response when trying to active them. The rear wiper, front and rear washer fluid sprayers all worked. No warning lights or other signs of failure were present. I took the car to a local repair shop and they diagnosed it as a bad Body Control Module. Once the module was replaced and reprogrammed, the wipers worked as intended. Safety Recall 3219D describes the issue I had perfecly. My VIN is out of the range of this recall but if I had the same issue as this recall, there might be other bad parts out there and that range might need to be increased.

On several occasions, both starting from stop and at 45 mph, on harder acceleration while operating as EV in normal mode, the vehicle will start accelerating then SLOW suddenly and hard for a few seconds before engaging the gas engine and accelerating as expected. Dangerous when pulling into traffic or attempting to pass.

At highway speeds, even with lane keeping assist disabled/turned off, if the ADAS is turned on LKA seems to remain active. Steering effort is unpredictable making it difficult to maintain a line through the corner. Effort will suddenly decrease resulting in oversteer. This is particularly dangerous when next to other cars, guardrails, barriers and the like. The behavior is greatly reduced with all ADAS off. This is largely repeatable over the last 18 mos/24,000 miles.

Mazda did the "increase in steering effort" recall 03/18/2024. At 10,455 miles. Campaign 6524A. At that time, we had never experienced problems with the steering. But now, with 33, 627 miles, the steering has a sort of kickback feel when in a sustained turn; either direction. It's most noticeable on an interstate highway on or off ramp. Seems as if it's trying to center the steering wheel to straight ahead. It's a mild, but definite concern. I've contacted Mazda, and the dealer where we have our CX-90 serviced.
