Tail and brake light for the second time has failed. A safety function of this nature should not be this difficult to fix and replace. The item should be available and affordable. You literally have to take out a lone to get it fixed. So now I can't go to work or anything else with this vehicle. This is supposed to be an affordable car. So the only way for me right now to fix is park it. I hear one person say " well it's not like a wheel falling off " I said tell that to the person behind me. With all these distractions now, between phones and other fancy options on cars. I'm a truck driver so I know how important these warning devices are. It is time to set a new standard in how safety items get replaced availability and cost should never be an issue.!!!!!!!!! With out question.

My wife is driving the car and the power steering quits working several times. Off and on. Speed varies.. Very scary!

My vehicles electric power assisted steering failed. Luckily my 8o year old wife was not at the wheel at the time! Ford is aware of the EPAS problem but earlier refused to correct the problem before it entered full failure mode! Dash Panel warning was displayed after the steering went into failure mode.

I was going down the 4lane in my home town an my steering wheel just stopped working could have caused me to have a accident I was going 55 miles an hour it could have been bad if I hadn't had both hands on the steering wheel please Thank you Kathy

The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated that upon entering a parking lot at a low rate of speed, the power steering assist failed as the power steering assist fault warning message illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact stated that excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic who later informed her that her vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (Steering). The contact called the dealer and the manufacturer who informed her that there were no recalls on her vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure was unknown.

The contact owns a 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid. The contact stated while moving from a complete stop, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact stated that the power steering assist fault message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with needing Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and the contact was awaiting a response. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

"Power Steering Assist Fault" message appeared, and the steering became stiff, indicating the power steering stopped working. This happened while coming down from a snowy mountain pass, which put myself, my passengers, and other vehicles at risk. Even though there was a 2014 recall for this problem, I was told by Ford dealership that there were no open recalls on my car (indicating it was either fixed and broke again, or my car was never included in the recall-- as I purchased the vehicle secondhand, I am unsure which it is). It will be a $1200 fix fat this Ford dealership for a known and dangerous problem that should, but won't, be covered by the previous recall. There should be an easier way to track fixed recalls through the NHTSA Vin lookup program.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and diagnosed with steering control module failure. The steering control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 133,000.
