The contact owns a 2008 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, he heard abnormal sounds coming from the front of the vehicle. The contact stated he lost control of the steering wheel and the vehicle was shuddering. The ABS warning light illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road. The contact stated as he drove, the vehicle continued to shudder. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic who diagnosed the failure as a loss of the steering torque sensor signal. The contact stated that the vehicle was not repaired, and the failure had been reoccurring while driving at various speeds. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (Steering) because the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 155,000.

The contact's sister owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that the brake pedal would depress to the floorboard without warning. The contact also stated that the brake master cylinder and the brake calipers were both replaced by an independent mechanic; however, the failure persisted. The contact then discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V904000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) which he linked to the failure. The dealer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the vehicle exhibited the same failure as stated in the recall; however, there were no recalls associated with the VIN. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and referred him to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 140,000.

The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would not accelerate. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

The contact's girlfriend owns a 2011 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that upon start-up of the vehicle, excessive effort was needed to steer the vehicle without warning; however, the power steering assist would return after a few minutes of driving. Recently, the contact stated that the power steering assist failed with the power steering assist fault warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact had called the manufacturer and was referred to the local dealer for assistance. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where he was informed that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering) and that the warranty on the vehicle for the power steering was expired. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

The contact's mother owns a 2008 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, the pedal depressed to the floorboard without warning. The contact had initially taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who informed her that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V904000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer where the recall repair was performed. Upon return of the vehicle, the contact stated that the brake pedal again depressed to the floorboard without warning. The contact immediately took the vehicle back to the independent mechanic where he inspected the vehicle; however, the vehicle had yet to be repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and they informed her to take the vehicle back to the dealer. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000.

Prior to incident I had a light come on power steering assist fail I would turn the car off and it would go away and didn’t have any issues. I was on a curvy county road leaving work and I got about a block away from job and going about 45 mph when my car starts ringing and said power steering assist fault and my steering was completely locked up I had to slam my brakes before I went off the road. Very scary I also had another light come on as I was sitting parked saying service advancetrac. Thankfully I wasn’t injured and it happens right before a sharp curve. It’s nearly impossible to turn the wheel. This could have been deadly. I had to get my car towed home. I called the Ford dealer about it and was informed it would need a rack and pinion and reprogramming that could cost me thousands of dollars. After researching the issue this has been a recall on many of the Mercury and fords and for some reason my year model is not included. Very dissatisfied with all the recalls I’ve already had. The purge valve almost got me killed in an intersection and caused my car to seize up in the middle of a busy hwy and would not go, like it wasn’t getting gas. I paid to have it fixed and about 8 months later they recalled it.

My 2010 Mercury Milan power steering fault light comes on, when it's on no power steering. So far it has happen when I turn the car on. I took it to the dealer and they informed me that the electric steering rack has to be replaced because the power steering can go out while I'm driving. I researched and found that the 2011 Mercury Milan had a recall on the above problem. Also the same exact part was used on both model years. Not sure why the 2010 was not included in this recall. Both cars were assembled at Hermosillo, Mexico.

My wife was driving and the power steering failed. She could hardly steer to safety. Turned car off then steering was fine. The next day it happened again so we dropped it off to our mechanic. Today he called and said the entire steering column would have to be replaced. He informed us that there was a recall in 2016 for this problem with ford and mercury vehicles from 2006- 2011 however our vin was not included. This vehicle has been kept in top shape and only has 70,000 miles. I feel this is definetly a manufacturer defect. We are planning to make these repairs but feel this vehicle should have been included in the recall.

While braking for bumps and pot holes the brake pedal goes to the floor resulting in no brakes for a few seconds. Brake pedal returns after pumping the brake pad.

The contact owns a 2004 Mercury Monterey. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to respond, and the vehicle continued to accelerate. The driver manually shifted gears to slow the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and the contact was informed that the return spring part was no longer being produced. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 184,000.
