2009 MINI COOPER- Daytona Beach, FL
The contact owns a 2009 Mini Cooper. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH at night, the exterior lights started flickering and started to become inoperable. The contact pulled over to the side of the road, turned off the vehicle, removed the battery terminals, and performed a master reset. After the master reset, there was an abnormal clicking sound inside the vehicle. The contact restarted the vehicle and drove to the residence. After arriving to the residence, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was parked and turned. The vehicle was then taken to a certified mechanic to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the relays inside the junction box used to control several of the electronic features had become inoperable. The mechanic suggested that the vehicle not be driven. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed that the vehicle was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

2014 MINI COUNTRYMAN- Indianapolis, IN
On or around 6/20/26, I went to drive my 2014 mini countryman. When I got inside, I quickly realized that there was mold growing throughout the vehicle, on the carpet, and in the trunk. The vehicle started, but I was unable to use the drivers side window. I sent the vehicle in for service and was informed that a massive leak after a storm had clogged the drain tubes to the moon roof allowing water to leak into the driver side floor. The water damaged the electrical box which caused the window to stop worked. I found out later that this electrical component failure can cause several other issues most alarmingly, increased potential for an electrical fire. I have filed a claim with my insurance company due to the water damage and mold. I’ve been quoted between $5,000-8,000 for repairs to the electric panel, cleaning the mold, replacing the carpet etc. other models of the mini for 2014 were recalled due to sunroof issues. It appears my mini countryman has the same moonroof and same problems as the other mini models that were recalled. Clearing of the drains on the moonroof should at least be a requirement under typical maintenance and communicated to buyers before they purchase these vehicles.

2012 MINI COOPER- Petersburg, VA

2026 MINI COOPER CONVERTIBLE- Memphis, TN
I purchased a 2026 Mini Cooper S Convertible in October of 2025. In the following 8 months I replaced 4 tires. Two due to blow-outs from potholes, a third went flat the morning after hitting a bump leaving a parking space due. The 4 incident was related to a bubble which formed on the sidewall of the tire. As the vehicle has no spar tire, three of the indicants required being towed to the dealership or the tire store. After nine months I replaced the vehicle. This vehicle is nether safe nor dependable.

2015 MINI COOPER- Vallejo , CA
On my 2015 MINI Cooper Hardtop 4 Door (VIN: [XXX]), the driver's side halogen headlight suddenly stopped working. When I attempted to replace the bulb, I discovered that the headlight connector/pig tail had melted on one side, one of the electrical wires had burned completely through, and there was a strong odor coming from the rear of the headlight assembly. This was not simply a burned-out bulb. The connector and wiring sustained heat damage that appears to have resulted from an electrical failure. Because of the melted connector, burned wiring, and strong burning small, I believe this created a potential fire hazard. It must be noted that there have not been any changes to the lighting or electrical system since purchasing my car and I am the first and only owner. I contacted my mini dealership and was informed that the connector is not available separately for my year, make, and model for my car and the only option is the purchase the entire headlight assembly. The cost for the assembly is $615 and while the exact charge for labor is not known at this time, from my experience, it will be between $200-$500. After researching his issue. I found reports from other MINI owners describing similar failures involved melted headlight connector and burned wiring on vehicles with halogen headlights. Based on these reports and my own experience, I am cornered this may represent a recurring safety-related defect rather than normal wear and tear. I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA can evaluate whether this issue warrants investigation. I have photographs documenting the melted connector, burned wiring, and resulting damage. 2025 MINI COUNTRYMAN- Franklin Park, NJ
On May 29, 2026, my 2025 MINI Countryman SE (battery-electric) became completely immobilized when the charging connector locked into the vehicle's charge port and could not be released. With the connector locked in, the vehicle could not be moved, shifted to neutral, or driven. The defect is in the factory charge-port locking mechanism. The connector could not be freed by me, by a MINI master technician working remotely for about 45 minutes, by the tow operator, or by the dealership's own service manager, who tried for over two minutes using both the manual release and the key fob and could not release it (recorded on video). The vehicle had to be towed. Because the wheels were locked, the master technician issued a written instruction that it be transported on dollies. A dealership advisor said the cause was the charge-port locking mechanism and that the lock "wears out over time with use." If accurate, that indicates a wear-related design condition that could immobilize other vehicles of this make and model, and a manual release that did not function when the primary lock failed. An EV that locks its own charge connector and then cannot be released or moved presents a stranding and safety risk, especially away from home or where it obstructs traffic. As of June 26, 2026, nearly four weeks later, the vehicle still has not been successfully repaired. Its own charging data shows no successful charging session since June 3, 2026, and repeated charging attempts at a dealership on June 16, 2026 each delivered zero energy, consistent with the charge-port/connector-lock defect remaining unresolved. The failed component is available for inspection, and all supporting evidence (video, photos, charging data, communications) has been preserved.

2012 MINI COOPER COUNTRYMAN- Tulsa, OK
My 2012 MINI Countryman (R60) experienced a complete electrical shutdown and engine failure while operating due to a severe manufacturing defect. Authorized dealership Jackie Cooper MINI of Edmond diagnosed the vehicle under RO# [XXX] and confirmed in writing that the "JBE electronic connectors are heavily corroded" and "The FRM has water/corrosion damage," providing a repair estimate of $4,700 (including a specific $1,055.84 charge to replace the FRM and clean the sunroof drains). Water entering the footwell area through defective, shrinking sunroof drainage structures is the exact identical failure mechanism, component (FRM3 Module), and extreme safety/fire hazard covered under mandatory safety recall NHTSA Campaign 23V-337. However, MINI has improperly excluded the R60 Countryman model from active coverage despite it utilizing the identical electrical infrastructure and drainage engineering layout. Releasing this vehicle into traffic presents a catastrophic risk of a highway vehicle fire or sudden total loss of vehicle control and lighting at high speeds. NHTSA must expand Recall 23V-337 to include the 2012 MINI Countryman to protect consumers from these documented structural water-ingress fires. while driving i noticed that there was some malfunctions with the car electronics and down by the drivers footwell there was a burning smell coming from it (fcm) which had me to stop the vehicle and get it towed home and stopped me from driving the car because of a risk of fire

2016 MINI COOPER- Las Vegas, NV
2015 and 2016 Hard top Mini Coopers, Standard (F55) are prone to their environmental air catalyst sensor breaking, causing a check engine light and emissions issues. The remedy is replacing the entire radiator. This occurred on my vehicle at only 40,000 miles. MINI is aware of the issue, but only issued an extended warranty for "S" (or 4-cylinder) models, despite the 3-cylinder base model containing the same radiator sensors with the same defects. 2023 MINI COOPER SE- Oakland, CA
The vehicle's suspension system was improperly configured for its electric powertrain at the time of manufacture, resulting in an incorrect ride height that is incompatible with the vehicle's EV platform. This is not an isolated component failure but a fundamental design defect — the vehicle was delivered in a condition that was never properly suited to its own drivetrain. This defect has caused ongoing damage to the vehicle's undercarriage, compromised handling and dynamic stability, and produced accelerated and premature tire wear. BMW/MINI, as the manufacturer, knew or reasonably should have known at the time of sale that the suspension specification was incompatible with this vehicle's electric drivetrain configuration. The failure to disclose or remedy this condition prior to sale, and the failure to adequately repair it despite repeated attempts, reflects a willful disregard of its warranty obligations.
