Can't use turn signals and can't lower windows to use hand signals, almost got rear ended.

I am writing about the air recirculation system in the Mini Cooper SE (and possibly other Minis). From Mini (by email) they state that "To prevent window condensation, recirculated-air mode for your MINI switches off automatically after a certain amount of time, depending on the outside temperature. There is no setting to keep recirculated-air mode on indefinitely." I found this to be a mild inconvenience when bad smells occur (following a garbage truck) or when the pollen count was high. However, given the recent instance of the Wild Fires in Canada causing unsafe breathing conditions outside - this "feature," as they state it, is actually a major safety hazard. Without the ability to stop outside air from coming into the compartment, it becomes hard to breathe and is unsafe to drive in events where the air quality is compromised. I would like to file a formal complaint about the safety issue this creates: without the ability of the driver to keep the air recirculation button engaged, it can be unsafe in certain situations. And the alternative, which they claim to be correcting for (trying to prevent condensation on the window) can easily be handled by the driver. Thank you for your time reviewing this issue. Kurt

2014 Mini Cooper Countryman - Engine Low Oil Failure and yes the vehicle is available for inspection. Had an engine oil pressure electronic message come up on the car: Engine Oil pressure too low. Possible Engine damage. Swith off engine. Continued driving is not possible. Please contact mini dealership. Had the car towed to dealer. Was told there is an engine oil leak somewhere. The provided one possible fix, but not for sure fix for 2k. Was told to put oil in engine every 750 miles to help prevent any engine failures. Started looking into the potential recall or class action lawsuits and found this: BMW Class Action Lawsuit Says Mini Cooper Engines Leak, The BMW Mini Cooper Leaky Engine Class Action Lawsuit is Borkman v. BMW of North America LLC, Case No. 2:16-cv-02225. Was told to contact NHTSA for potential law suits that may help us with the issue. The car is not safe and should not be having problems like this. The car just randomly caught on fire while off in my driveway. Noticed a weird sound outside looked out and noticed the windshield wipers were going even though the car was off and I hadn't driven it. Opened the door to bellows of smoke coming out. fire department was called and had to rip it apart to get to the fire which was under the steering wheel in the left side

The contact owns a 2007 Mini Cooper S. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35-40 MPH, the parking brake engaged, and the vehicle came to a stop. The contact manually pulled the parking brake lever several times until the parking brake released. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.

The footwell module failed due to corrosion. This is a known issue with these vehicles and is a fire hazard. Recall 23V-337 is active but is currently being limited to vehicles in certain northern states citing the use of road salt. This design issue is not limited to vehicles exposed to road salt. For example my vehicle has been exposed to years of salty, humid air as a result of being used on the coast of SC and GA. I request the recall be expanded to cover vehicles used in other states especially those exposed to coastal environments.

The contact owns a 2012 Mini Cooper Clubman. The contact stated that while reversing into a parking space and depressing the brake pedal, the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. After restarting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the power windows, headlights, taillights, and the radio was inoperable. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the electronic control module in the footwell. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V337000 (Electrical System). The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 62,500.

Mini cooper keeps leaking oil which can be dangerous for road safety. There are Lawsuits going on but company has not recalled their vehicles to fix oil leak issue. It has cost consumers thousands of dollars in repair, time loss & mental harassment. Company is aware of the issues and has not done anything. These cars are not safe to be driven & sold in the USA.

The contact owns a 2005 Mini Coop S Hardtop. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked and unoccupied, the vehicle alarm activated inadvertently and the contact noticed smoke coming from underneath the hood. The contact stated that he lifted the hood open and noticed fire coming from underneath the engine. The contact extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher. There were no injuries sustained. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

The contact owned a 2014 Mini Countryman. The contact stated that after parking the vehicle in his driveway, approximately two hours later the neighbor who noticed the windshield wipers were activated and that the interior of the vehicle was foggy, alerted the contact of their observance. The contact opened the door of the vehicle and discovered smoke and a burning amber-colored dashboard. The fire department was called to the scene but no extinguisher was needed since the fire was only in the interior of the vehicle and had extinguished on its own. A fire report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. During the incident, the vehicle was destroyed. The cause of the failure was not determined. The failure mileage was 90,000.
