SCION Complaints

I am writing to report significant safety concerns regarding my 2008 Scion [include model, e.g., tC or xB]. After purchasing the vehicle, I discovered multiple serious mechanical and structural defects that make the car unsafe to operate on public roads. 1. Suspension/Struts – The struts are severely worn and are causing premature and uneven tire wear. This creates a major risk of tire blowout or loss of control while driving. 2. Motor Mount – The engine mount is missing screws and bolts, which results in excessive engine movement. This could lead to engine damage or failure while in motion. 3. Alignment – The vehicle’s alignment is completely off, causing the car to pull while driving and further worsening tire wear and handling. 4. Brakes and Rotors – The brakes are nearly nonfunctional, and the rotors are warped and damaged, severely reducing stopping power and increasing the risk of a crash. 5. License Plate Mount – The vehicle has no designated place to mount a rear tag/license plate, which makes it illegal to drive and difficult to comply with state requirements. 6. Missing Headlight – One headlight is entirely missing, significantly reducing visibility at night and making the vehicle a danger to myself and others Fuel System – The fuel system is contaminated and requires flushing. This is causing performance issues, engine hesitation, and raises concerns about potential engine damage or stalling. I have been quoted over $2,500 in repairs just to bring the vehicle to a safe operating condition by 4 mechanics I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate this matter and determine whether these issues represent a pattern of neglect, safety violations, or improper sales practices, especially if other owners have reported similar problems. UNKNOWN. I was unaware of my car's recall notice. I had known only when my car's regular smog check was due. The problem that my car may have had not been confirmed by dealer or independent service center nor has it been inspected by manufacturer, police, or others. There are also no warning lamps or messages of the problem. However, there are symptoms like pushing the brakes when driving my car and it squeaks. I had installed new brake pads over 2 years ago. I don't know why it continues to squeak when I am pushing the brakes.

The valve spring for my 2015 FRS completely broke and this was a known issue and recalls for my car and it is available for inspection

The contact owns a 2014 Scion XB. The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, the contact observed an abnormal burning odor. The contact stated that on several occasions while inspecting the engine oil, the contact became aware that the oil level was low, and oil was added to the vehicle. The oil warning light was occasionally illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of oil, and that the short block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Drove car and heard loud noise issuing from the passenger side rear. Upon viewing the wheel was angled in at the top. After removing the wheel I found the rear crossmember subframe axle had a complete break in the weld holding the angle from the straight part of the beam to the wheel and suspension plate. After going online to see if similar issues happen on the same side of the vehicle, I found many reports of weld failures on the same side at the same joint. This is an EXTREMELY dangerous weld failure--if it had happened during highway travel the potential for catastrophic injury or death is high, in my opinion. Please investigate other reports to the NTSB about this make and model, and please search model years on or about 2007-2012 as other scion owners have had the same issue. This is a one owner car, we purchased it new in 2009. The opposite weld is also showing signs of stress, but not broken or cracked.

The car randomly shut off, i started it back up and it has a knock in the engine. Oil is super clean, and changed every 3k miles. I contacted Toyota and they had a Valve Spring Recall that leads to this very problem but somehow my vehicle isnt covered.

Right rear axel is cracked and broken, wheel is rubbing on inside weel well, car is un driveable until it's fixed and has a very large cost to repair.

The contact owns a 2016 Scion TC. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the front driver's side seat belt retractor failed to function as intended. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed front driver's side seat belt retractor. The contact was informed that the front driver's side seat belt retractor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 143,000. The VIN was unavailable.

When I bought this car, there was a couple recalls within 5 years of owning. One was fixed. The second was an oil consumption issue that my car passed by 100 miles and I was told it would not be covered. For the last few years the oil consumption has gotten worse. I have to put oil in the car when the light comes on, which is anywhere between 1k and 2k miles. As I'm driving, it can smell of burning, or start shaking, etc.

This complaint is concerning Bridgestone All Season Tire (BL 205/55R 16). I was driving on the road and all of a sudden the steering wheel was moving back and forth and the right front tire was bouncing uncontrollably while was while driving. My car was pulling to the right as I drove, creating a dangerously unstable driving condition, This issue posed a significant risk not only to my safety but also to others on the road, as the inability to control the vehicle could result in an accident. I pulled over, and saw that the tire was not flat. I was two blocks from the sister store in Halladale. I asked for the manager to look at my wheel as it is under warranty. The manager said it was a bubble in the tread of the tire. I asked the manager since this is a manufacturer defect, can I get tire replaced at no charge. He said he would replace it not for free, but he would prorate the tire. He gave me the estimate and I informed him that since I bought the extended warranty, mounting and balancing was supposed to be free of charge. He says he can't honor the warranty. He not only charged me for the mounting and balancing, but charged me for another warranty! (that they won't honor) The warranty was good for 40,000 miles and this tire only had 16,000 so I felt I was treated unfairly, I called Firestone customer complaint line several times and they said the district manager would call me to rectify my issues, but no one ever called me back. I went to another tire shop to purchase another tire. I took pictures of the bubble on the tire.
