Re: Demand for repurchase or replacement under warranty — VIN [XXX] Vehicle: 2022 Volvo XC60 (pre-certified) Purchase date: 08/19/2024 Dealer: [Dealer name, [XXX] ] Dear Volvo Cars USA Customer Care: I am the owner of the above-referenced vehicle. Since the date of purchase (08/19/2024) the vehicle’s infotainment system has repeatedly failed: it shuts down and reboots frequently (as often as 10 times within one hour of normal driving). Each shutdown disables navigation, HVAC controls and Bluetooth, and on reboot I must reset settings. This defect creates a significant safety hazard while driving, especially in unfamiliar areas. Since purchase I have returned the vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis and repair on multiple occasions. The vehicle has received software updates approximately 3–4 times, most recently on05//05/2026. The problem persists. I have retained copies of all repair orders and service records documenting these visits. (Copies attached.) This recurring failure remains unresolved despite multiple repair attempts and continues to present a SERIOUS safety risk. The eRAD (Electric Rear Axle Drive) on my 2016 Volvo XC90 T8 PHEV failed completely. The warning light appeared approximately 11/3/2025, within one week of purchasing the vehicle at 88,000 miles. The failure was confirmed by a Volvo dealership. The eRAD is the component that powers the rear electric motor and provides AWD and hybrid function — its failure results in complete loss of rear wheel drive and hybrid system operation. Safety risk includes unexpected loss of AWD traction control in adverse weather conditions. This is a known systemic defect acknowledged in Volvo’s own Technical Journals (TJ33358). I contacted Volvo Cars USA customer service to invoke the SULEV emissions warranty and they were unable to locate my claim or explain the warranty coverage. Volvo has not addressed this through a recall despite this being a widespread known failure mode affecting XC90 T8 models. The vehicle is available for inspection.

The rear a/c evaporator coil has failed, leaking UV dyed green oil into the main battery pan. The a/c vents in the car in the driver and middle rows are now blowing hot air. This is a very commonly known problem with Volvo SPA XC90s from 2016-2021. It’s incredibly expensive to repair($3500 +). There should be a recall to replace/repair this problem in these relatively new and expensive cars.

The Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) on my 2024 Volvo XC90 has experienced repeated total system blackouts, spontaneous power-cycles, and critical thermal failures while operating at highway speeds (46–77 MPH). The IHU displays a "Cooling Infotainment System" critical warning and fails completely, resulting in total loss of the federally mandated rearview/backup camera (FMVSS 111 violation), GPS navigation, and all safety interfaces while in motion. The dealer confirmed the defect and attempted repair twice but only performed software resets rather than hardware replacement. The dealer documented "FIXED FAILED." Failures have continued and worsened after both repair attempts. Video documentation exists for all incidents (Exhibits A–H, dated May 2–7, 2026, odometer 41,900–42,151 miles). The vehicle's own diagnostic system issued a Critical Thermal Warning on the driver cluster while navigating traffic, confirming a hardware cooling defect. Two failures occurred during active driving maneuvers including a reverse maneuver and highway operation on I-20, creating immediate safety risk to the driver and public. The component is available for inspection. The defect has been confirmed by the Volvo dealer. A Texas Lemon Law complaint has been filed.

Under certain driving conditions, particularly when the sun is at a low or mid-angle (morning or late afternoon), direct sunlight entering through the windshield reflects off multiple interior surfaces and creates a significant glare effect within the driver’s field of view. The reflections originate from several interior components, including metallic or semi-polished trim surfaces on the dashboard and steering wheel, as well as the glossy plastic housing surrounding the Bowers & Wilkins center tweeter located on the dashboard. When sunlight strikes these surfaces at specific angles, the reflected light is directed back toward the driver’s eyes and onto the windshield area, producing intermittent bright glare spots. Safety Impact: This glare can cause temporary visual distraction and reduced forward visibility. In some cases, the reflected light is intense enough to momentarily obscure portions of the road view or draw the driver’s attention away from driving. The issue is angle-dependent and not constant, but it is repeatable under common sun positions and clear weather conditions. Assessment of Cause: The condition appears to be related to interior material selection and surface finishes that include reflective or semi-gloss components positioned within the driver’s forward field of view. The combination of windshield angle, dashboard geometry, and placement of polished trim elements contributes to a direct reflection path toward the driver. The Bowers & Wilkins center tweeter housing, in particular, appears to be constructed of a highly reflective plastic surface that amplifies this effect when exposed to direct sunlight. Similarly, metallic trim elements on the dashboard and steering wheel may lack sufficient matte finishing or anti-glare treatment to prevent specular reflection.

The suspension module failed due to water accumulation on floorboards. Suspect other electronics may be at risk. Water ingress cause by a combination of what dealer said was a worn out sunroof gasket and two of four drains that became plugged. Further examination from dealer found the plugged drains were crimped from when the vehicle was manufactured. The dealer blamed the excessive water ingress was further allowed by a failed sunroof seal. The vehicle has always been serviced by the dealer and problem areas like that were either not inspected or not reported. The seal appears as good as the day we purchased vehicle from dealer. It seems it needs a more expert eye to detect how it fails. The result was standing water in the floor boards and body cavities, which then caused the suspension module to fail. The entire interior had to be disassembled to verify there was no further electrical damage. The dashboard and other interior pieces needed to be removed to replace or correct the drains. This appears to be a common problem with this model although no service advisories seem to have been issued. Total estimated damage is about $5200. Vehicle has only 60K miles. Volvo has rejected responsibility for the compromised drain and failed sunroof seal. Service documentation attached, not including the estimated $1700 to remove dash for repairs.

The car had no warning signs showing. We were on the highway and this was the longest trip we’ve taken in this car. We were at about 100 miles into the trip, we were at mile 115 on I-95 in [XXX] coming from [XXX] . Suddenly the rubber around the tire ripped off completely, the car started to slow in the middle of the highway. We pulled over to the right side of the road and found the tire completely blown out. The vehicle is currently being inspected by Volvo. The Volvo dealership is currently replacing the tire and we are paying full price out of pocket. We will be in touch with continental as soon as their office opens back up on Monday. Tire size 255/45 R 20 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The car starts vibrations on at 70 mph through 80 mph. I have brought it to the dealer who stated they felt it and declared that it is normal for severe vibrations to occur at only these speeds. Volvo refused to acknowledge or treat the issue. This issue has been reported and Volvo issued a Technical Journal 36752.2.0 which directs the technicians to acknowledge the vibrations but will provide no solution. This is a safety issue if your car vibrates at highway speed. How has Volvo been allowed to sell these cars without warnings?
