  • 2016 VOLVO XC90
    - Las Vegas , NV

Vehicle start shaking Violently out of control. AAA picked up the vehicle and took it to their European shop and discovered it’s the piston rings . I asked Volvo to do a goodwill repair and they rejected my claim on a well know issue that I was not brought aware while having the vehicle serviced at their facility Findley Volvo dealership. I’ve been taking this vehicle there for two years, with an oil problem. They never did an oil consumption test or correct the piston issue. I am appalled at this action and behavior by the dealership.A well documented issue with this vehicle. They told the program has expired, I’d have to pay for service . I have photos as well of the issue.

The contact owns a 2026 Volvo VNL(4). The contact stated that while driving approximately 75 MPH, the message "Stop Vehicle - Apply Parking Brake Only While at Stand Still" was displayed, with three unknown warning lights were illuminated, with a continuous audible alert. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where a diagnostic machine was connected, but the computer system crashed. The cluster display, environment control, gateway, radio and entertainment, driver control, and telematic gateway modules, and the CCIOM, RIOCM, VMCU, SCIM, and DACU, all needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred two and a half hours later. The vehicle was taken to another dealer, however, before the vehicle was diagnosed, it turned off in the parking lot with the doors wide open and the key not in the ignition. With the battery saver mode activated, the vehicle rolled forward inadvertently. The contact's husband was in the bed of the vehicle and reached into the front of the vehicle and pulled the air brake, however, the vehicle failed to slow down. The brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle stopped. The vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the wheel speed sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. On another occasion, while attempting to park the vehicle with the parking brake activated, the parking brake failed to engage, and the vehicle rolled forward. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where the failure could not be duplicated; however, the EBS module was replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to another dealer; however, the failure was not duplicated. The contact stated that the engineers diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the two axles might need to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 54,000.

The accident avoidance system engaged during a 55mph drive on a divided 4 lane road. no other cars on road, no animals. Car swerved sharply to left half way into left lane and brakes engaged sharply, enough that driver and passenger in front went forward. after clearing warning, and proceeding down the road a few hundred feet, same thing happened. Has also occurred during navigation of a sharp curve, possible due to picking up a small reflection sign well off road.

    - Galena, OH

To whom it may concern. Our 2017 XC90 unexpectedly, spantaneously, and catastrophically caught fire under the hood and was a total loss 5 minutes after parking it on April 19, 2026. There were no leaks or other signs of mechanical issues. The vehicle had all regular maintenance completed at the Byers Volvo Service Department in Columbus, OH. It had no open recalls. It was always parked overnight in a garage. The Fire Inspector noted a possible vehicle manufacturing defect as the cause of the fire, however the vehicle was too heavily damaged to be definitive. We do have video of the entire incident as the Volvo was parked on Federal Government Property at the time. We are happy to share any and all information if this helps future vehicles to be safer. It should be noted that there is an active recall for the 2016 XC90 for a coolant hose leak that can cause a fire. Given that the 2017 XC90 is of the same design. Upon checking the internet and Reddit, it appears that our situation is not unique and there are other instances and reports of similar fires.

  • 2024 VOLVO XC60
    - Oxford, OH

My car is a 2024 Volvo XC60 PHEV. I was exiting a parking garage on the evening of April 24, 2026, going very slowly as I tried to get into a line of cars, when the brakes suddenly lost pressure. The brake pedal did nothing; I had no control over the car, which lurched forward, hitting the car in front of me. Then my car did the same thing again, and hit the next car again. I strongly suspect mechanical failure, namely that the transition from regenerative to friction braking failed. Exactly the same thing happened with the first XC60 PHEV that I had. In the summer of 2023, that acted as above on two different occasions. I turned that car into the dealer and in its place got the 2024.

    - Atlanta, GA

SUPPLEMENTAL TO NHTSA COMPLAINT #11713668. This is a supplemental filing regarding the 2020 Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription, VIN [XXX] . The hybrid battery cell module failed in December 2025, disabling the vehicle's hybrid propulsion system, all-wheel drive, and electric-only mode. As of this filing, the vehicle has been without hybrid functionality for over four months. The replacement part remains unavailable. Since the original complaint, the owner initiated civil proceedings against Volvo Car USA LLC and Volvo Car North America LLC in the State Court of Gwinnett County, Georgia (Case No. [XXX]). Through that litigation, the following facts have been established as deemed admissions under Georgia law, which neither Defendant contested: 1.This vehicle is excluded from Recall 25V-179, yet experienced a catastrophic hybrid battery cell module failure. 2.Battery failures in 2019-2022 XC90 T8 vehicles are not exclusively caused by the "LG supplier process deviation" identified in Recall 25V-179. 3.Volvo is aware of battery failures in 2019-2022 XC90 T8 vehicles outside the Recall 25V-179 population. 4.Volvo possesses internal engineering data showing the battery defect affects vehicles outside the population reported to NHTSA in Recall 25V-179. 5.Volvo has not issued a recall for the specific failure mode affecting this vehicle. 6.Expanding Recall 25V-179 to cover the full 2019-2022 XC90 T8 population would cost Volvo tens of millions of dollars. These facts were established against both Volvo entities through separate sets of Requests for Admission that went unanswered within the statutory deadline. The owner requests that NHTSA evaluate whether Recall 25V-179 is adequate to protect the full population of affected vehicles. Supporting documentation, including copies of the deemed admissions and service records, is being submitted by mail to the Office of Defect Investigation. I am submitting a formal vehicle safety complaint regarding a sudden and complete system failure in my Volvo S60 2023, which occurred in March 2026 in [XXX] . While traveling on [XXX] at highway speed, the vehicle abruptly and without warning lost all electrical power. The dashboard went completely blank, and all electronic systems ceased functioning. Critically, the steering became unresponsive/locked at the same time, creating an immediate and severe safety hazard. I was fortunate to avoid a collision, but the incident had clear potential for catastrophic consequences. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Volvo dealership; however, I was informed that the issue could not be duplicated and no repairs were performed. As a result, the root cause of this failure remains unknown, and the safety risk persists. Key details: Mileage at time of incident: Approximately 40,000 miles Location: [XXX] Date: March 2026 Conditions: Normal highway driving, no prior warning indicators I am reporting this incident because: It involves a complete loss of vehicle control systems; It presents a significant risk of serious injury or death; It may indicate a broader defect affecting similar vehicles. I respectfully request that this matter be reviewed for potential investigation and that any similar complaints be evaluated for patterns. Please let me know if additional information is needed. • 2022 VOLVO XC60
    - Pittsburgh, PA

2022 Volvo XC60 T8 Recharge VIN: [XXX] Mileage at time of complaint: ~38,400 Purchased: November 2023 (Certified Preowned) DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM: The vehicle's infotainment system and backup camera have experienced repeated failures since the time of purchase. The backup camera intermittently fails to display an image when the vehicle is placed in reverse, leaving the driver without rear visibility. The infotainment system freezes, goes black, or becomes unresponsive without warning. These failures affect the federally mandated rearview camera display required under FMVSS 111. The vehicle has been brought to authorized Volvo retailers (Jim Fisher Volvo, Portland, OR and Germain Volvo North Hills, Wexford, PA) more than eight times for in-person service for this concern. The same issues have also been troubleshot remotely by phone or text on approximately ten additional occasions. Software updates, system resets, and other attempted repairs have not permanently resolved the problem. On one occasion, the backup camera failed to display while reversing, which contributed to minor rear bumper damage. The driver was relying on the camera display as designed and federally required, and the system did not perform. I am aware that NHTSA Recall 25V282 (Volvo R10320) was issued in April 2025 for this defect across 413,000+ vehicles including the 2022 XC60. Despite the recall, the underlying infotainment and camera reliability issues in my vehicle have not been resolved. A second recall (25V392) was issued after the initial software fix caused braking concerns in some vehicles. No injuries have occurred. No crashes have occurred beyond the minor bumper contact described above. Volvo Customer Care Case #XXX was opened and a goodwill assistance request was denied.
