GMC Complaints

The contact owns a 2016 GMC Acadia. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V334000 (AIR BAGS); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

WHEN I BOUGHT THE YUKON 3 YEARS AGO THE TRANMISSION WENT OUT WITHIN MONTHS, THEY REPLACED IT WITH A USED ONE, NOW IT IS STARTED TO DO THE SAME THING, IT WILL SLIP IN AND OUT OF GEAR, WHEN YOU GIVE IT GAS IT WILL JUMP INTO GEAR AT AN IDLE IT WILL DROP OUT OF GEAR, IT'S BEEN DOING THIS EVERY SINCE THEY PUT THE USED ONE IN, I NOITIED THEM THEY SAID THAT IT IS NORMAL???? I HAD THE WORK DONE @ PAHRUMP VALLEY AUTO PLAZA. I'M AFRAID THAT WHEN IM AT A LIGHT IT WILL NOT GO INTO GEAR AND I WILL GET HIT. NO WARING LAMPS CAME ON AT ALL, IT HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE.

While driving at highway speed and attempting to pass another vehicle, I experienced an engine failure; loss of power, noise from engine, and numerous warning messages on the display. At the GM dealer, I was informed that a pushrod (cylinder #2) was bent, the source of the engine noise. Upon further inspection (removal of cylinder heads), it was determined that the cam shaft chrome had begun to flake causing pitting (lobe damage) which in turn caused the pushrod to fail. Had the pushrod broke instead of bent at highway speed, I feel there would have been a catastrophic failure with more severe consequences for my vehicle and others around me. Vehicle was diagnosed and repaired by a certified GM dealer. There were no prior warnings/indications of problem(s). I understand there is a current recall of the GM 6.2L L87 engine for model years 2021-2024. This incident occurred on a model year 2020 GM 6.2L L87, but the issues I experienced are identical to the 2021-2024 engines identified in the recall.

The contact owned a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). The contact stated that while driving at 16 MPH, the engine suddenly stalled. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to restart the engine, placed the gear lever on neutral(N), and revved up the engine. The contact then moved the gear lever to drive(D); when the vehicle accelerated independently, the contact swerved to avoid hitting a telephone pole, then swerved to avoid hitting a mailbox, and ended up hitting a tree, where the vehicle came to a stop. The driver-side and passenger-side air bags. A police report was filed. The contact sustained minor injuries to his foot. No medical attention was provided. No passengers in the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a collision center. The vehicle was not inspected. The insurance company was notified. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and pending an investigation. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.

We purchased the vehicle used in April 2025 with 79,851 miles. All service records were documented via Carfax. Vehicle was in impeccable condition. We drove it for approx. 8,000 miles until July 10, 2025, when a loud knocking sound started coming from the engine - approx. mileage 87,600. We drove the vehicle home 350 miles. The knocking sound continued and got slightly worse. We drove it to the nearest dealer (30 miles) and the mechanic said it sounded like a camshaft problem. However, they could not get it in for over 60 days. We drove to another dealer (45 miles). The mechanic said he thought the entire engine was bad. We left the vehicle there and about a week later they were able to confirm that it was TOTAL BEARING FAILURE. Mileage 88,054. We were told that a new engine was needed as well as a radiator and new oil lines, etc. Total estimate $18,000. They also said there was no timeline they could guarantee because of the current GM recall. Of particular note and concern...at no time did the 'check engine' light come on or any other warning system activate. Both mechanics were genuinely perplexed at this. The repairs were ordered and the vehicle is now repaired. However, GM has not confirmed a cost share for the repair billing and we are now almost 60 days since they received the paperwork from the dealer so we still do not have our vehicle back. We filed a complaint with GM and a case number was assigned so they are fully aware of the issue as is the dealer who did the repair.

The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the engine seized. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with a misfire in cylinder #3 and engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced an unknown recall with a similar failure; however, the VIN was not associated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 101,000.

Early October my passenger side airbag deployed and I was sitting in the drivers seat and had just put the key into the key hole but did not turn the key to start the vehicle. 3 weeks later I was going into the passenger side of the vehicle and the key was in my pocket and the drivers side airbag deployed. Both times the vehicle was not started and the airbags deployed I called GMC and they had the vehicle towed to a dealer to investigate why the airbags deployed. They said it was a sensor that was corroded and that’s why the airbags deployed. I asked GMC, why didn’t the sensor left the driver know that it was going bad, just like it notifies the driver if you have low tire pressure or needs an oil change. I had no notifications that the airbags were going to deploy. I’m so grateful that no one was driving the vehicle when they deployed. GMC said the vehicle is not safe to drive so they had it towed from my house to the dealership and then back to my house however they said they are not taking responsibility for the deployment and said it’s my responsibility to get the airbags fixed. I told GMC that I was filing a complaint with you all. Thank you for looking into this matter.

Took the vehicle to the dealer because of an engine noise. It had issues with the valves knocking when it had around 1000 miles. I took it in and now the truck has around 67,000 miles and I’m being told it needs a new engine because of a bent rod in the engine. I was told that I need a new engine. Previously I had a lot of other issues with the front wheel hubs clicking. But, this truck didn’t even make it to 5 years and now it needs an engine.

While traveling on the interstate my vehicle shuttered and lost power we went to a friend’s neighborhood and the vehicle stalled when we pulled in no lights had come on until then and a knock had started. With no where to pull over I finally got the vehicle started and drove it straight to our friends house and left in on the side of the street. I had to take there vehicle home and called ONSTAR to tow it to the dealership. I have to pay for the over mileage because I was out of town when it happened.

Driving at night when the low oil light came on then engine failed. Engine is now blown and will not run. Engine L87.
