On [XXX], my 2017 Land Rover Range Rover HSE Td6 diesel (VIN: [XXX] ) suffered a complete, catastrophic engine failure without warning at approximately 70 mph on [XXX] . My wife and our two infant sons (ages [XXX] and [XXX] ) were passengers. There were no prior warning lights or symptoms. The engine stopped instantaneously, eliminating power steering and power brakes while I was overtaking a semi-truck in the passing lane. We narrowly reached the shoulder safely. The odometer read 79,018 miles — inside both limits of the federally mandated 8-year/80,000-mile emissions warranty under 40 CFR §85.2103. The vehicle was 7 years old at time of failure. Hoehn Land Rover Carlsbad diagnosed complete engine failure caused by timing chain guide failure — a known defect pattern in the Ingenium diesel engine. The service manager stated failures like this "aren't that rare" with these engines. Repair estimate: $28,000–$30,000. Jaguar Land Rover North America (Case #[XXX]) denied the warranty claim entirely, offering $800, without ever evaluating the claim under the active federal emissions warranty. Their denial cited only the expired extended CPO warranty and a maintenance gap — neither of which constitutes valid grounds for denying an emissions warranty claim under 40 CFR §85.2103(d), as the manufacturer cannot demonstrate the maintenance gap caused a documented design defect. This failure pattern is documented in JLR Technical Service Bulletins LTB00735 and SSM74184. Land Rover Korea issued a recall for the same timing chain failure in 2020. No equivalent recall was issued in the United States for identical vehicles with identical engines. JLR has refused all requests for review or reconsideration for 24 months. Daytime running lights have both failed within the last 79 days. Passenger side failed at ~32660 miles o/a 05 Mar 26. It was replaced under warranty. Driver side failed around 36234 miles on 22 May 26 (5-days out of warranty). It is pending a shop appointment for replacement. This is not a “wear and tear” issue, it is a product quality control issue. It is not a simple plug and play repair. It is a costly repair due to the design of the headlamp assembly. I have owned vehicles since 1988 and last changed a headlamp or taillight bulb in the early 2000’s and that was on a MY93 vehicle. I have also owned two other Land Rovers MY07 LR3 from 2008-2011 and MY14 LR4 from 2014-2022 and did not have to replace a single bulb in the vehicle. Point is that technology and quality have improved over the years and these headlamp/DRL assemblies should not fail with less than 36500 miles on the vehicle. This is a known issue that warrants further investigation. Jaguar Land Rover has issued a Special Service Message 75479 concerning the known issue with the Defender DRL. My DRLs failed in similar fashion described in the SSM. Inoperable DRL reduces safety due to lower visibility since they should operate during normal driving conditions. This issue is dangerous since there is no indication on the dashboard or other warning unless the headlights are manually inspected while the vehicle is operating. Additionally, inoperable DRL leads to a failed State vehicle safety inspections.

The vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the issue. the contact stated that the manufacturer stated there was a recall on the vehicle; however the repair is being charged at the owners expense. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

The contact stated the the windshield was leaking from the top center When in reverse the image the back over prevention would display a blurred and distorted image. When used at night only lights are able to been seen in the image displayed. The failures had became worse as time continued. The dealer was contacted and it was confirmed there were no recalls attached to the VIN. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issues. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact received notice of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V514000 (Steering). The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, the airbag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for inspection, where it was diagnosed that there were cracked suspension knuckles and a poor connection for the driver's side airbag that needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired, but the airbag failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer, where it was diagnosed that the driver's side airbag had a poor connection and needed to be repaired. It was unclear if the vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was taken to the residence and parked. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 48,734.

The fuel tank support sheet metal has corroded away such that the fuel tank is not supported on the passenger side and may fall from the vehicle. This could cause sudden failure of the vehicle to be operated and possible fire from leaking fuel if the tank falls out.

The vehicle was immediately restarted and driven home. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer who informed that the ac to dc converter had malfunctioned. The vehicle was not yet repaired and no other information was available. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 3300.

System warning lamps -- Hill Descent, Park Fault Brake Detected, Stability Control Not Available, Brake System Fault Detected, Suspension Fault Detected, Electrical Fault Detected, Car not being able to be put in gear. Safety at risk - no, happened in the driveway Problem was reproduced by the dealer Subsequently the infotainment system was resetting resulting in the loss of all options including the cameras etc.
