LEXUS Complaints

The first incident occurred sometime in late June/early July...indicator lights mentioned below came on and I cleaned off sensors and indicator lamps disappeared on this occurrence. On July 13 2022, I was driving on a busy local road when the following malfunction indicators were displayed: brake system warning, 'check' engine malfunction indicator lamp, electric power steering system warning, parking support brake system, and pre-collision system. As these indicators were displayed, simultaneously the vehicle decelerated to an almost complete stop on the road (though I was pressing gas pedal to floor) and then to a complete stop as I was able to blessedly pull over to a gas station without getting hit (the car sounded like putt, putt as it shut down). The vehicle would not start even though I cleaned off the sensors this time...I sat for about 15-30 minutes and the vehicle restarted and resume normal operations until I was able to get home safely. This happened again on 15 July 2022 while I was driving on I-75N, a truly busy interstate, I was switching lanes to get to the far right lane when all of a sudden, the aforementioned indicator lamps displayed and the vehicle decelerated to a complete stop as I was able to pull over onto the shoulder of the highway...I believe since I had a family member following me, that definitely kept an accident from occurring along with the oversight of the good Lord. While we sat and waited for tow services, I tried wiping the sensors to no avail...yet, upon 30 minutes of waiting, the vehicle restarted and resumed normal operations. I drove vehicle to an auto shop in which they did a vehicle diagnostics check and couldn't find anything wrong...they even drove vehicle to see if problem would reoccur but to no avail.

After having our car in the local dealerships shop to fix recalls and a Very hard jerking of the car when slowing to 8mph thinking it was the ABS accutator, that unit was replaced and system bled and tested we picked the car up and before we got 100 feet away from the shop our car still had the same problem. After much talking with a lexus forum group I now believe based on their experiences and testing myself it's a Hard 2nd to 1st gear downshift ! and through my investigating, this is a common issue among lexus transmission between years 2006 - 2013

Sunroof Glass Failure Report: I was traveling on the interstate at the speed limit and there was a loud bang, which after I pulled over, discovered that the sunroof had "exploded". There was no sign of anything hitting it and the weather was typical for the Texas Gulf Coast in a July morning. Luckily, the underneath cover for the sunroof was closed, because several pounds of glass fragments were released in the sunroof failure and would have been all over the passenger compartment of the Lexus. This is a major safety issue, especially if a child is fastened in a car seat with this problem directly overhead. This issue has been reported by numerous other Lexus owners and seems to occur often enough that it should be a concern for the manufacturer, but I am not aware that they have taken any action on this. The contact owns a 2011 Lexus RX350. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, an abnormal clicking sound was coming from the vehicle. The contact stated that the AWD and oil pressure warning lights were illuminated. The contact pulled over and discovered oil leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the contact was informed that the oil cooler line was leaking. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred her to an authorized Lexus dealer for assistance. The contact expressed concerns that the failure could have resulted in loss of vehicle control due to traction, as well as a potential for the vehicle to catch on fire due to the oil leak. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000.

235/55R20 102V Michelin Premier LTX, premature wear, tires falling apart in layers & chunks, caused premature failure of front left strut on Lexus RX350. Started at 24,000 miles. Tires create an oscillation, causing you to think a tire balance issue, no alignment issue in the onset of problem. Tire tread not wearing but appears to be melting and becoming brittle. Road weight balanced and numbers varied per location of tire original tire driver front read 14-15 pushing to close to the 20 number and giving perspective of internal or manufacturer defects or construction issue. My vehicle has been back to the Lexus maintenance shop for tire balance check, test drives, discovered left front strut was failing & replaced, alignment checked, tires checked again, then again at the shop days apart due to oscillation feeling continuing, tires road force balanced, test drive & again taken back with information of GMC bulletin for tire premature wear with an NHTSA. I’ve tracked complaints of premature wear/material failure issues from videos/reports online as well. This is a 60,000 mile tire/warranty failing at 20-25,000 miles. The tire problems only lead me to believe this could be another Firestone situation if left unchecked. It’ll impact vehicle owners & dealerships: repair & research time, money, premature vehicle component wear & repairs for allowing defective products to be allowed on US roads. Definitely not needed at this time of inflation & limited supply of replacement parts & tire products. I did contact Michelin customer service to file complaint/claim (#02983306) and informed the representative that this had been an issue for the month of June & didn’t feel it safe to have these tires on the road and also don’t want any further premature wear/failure of components to my vehicle or endanger myself or loved ones.

After just 6000 miles, all 4 of my tires have significant cracking on most of the blocks & sipes. I've already lose a few small sections of the blocks where these cracks have reached the tread. No punctures or blowouts, but I wonder how long they will be safe. Kenda claim all damage is caused by stone drilling as a result of driving dirt roads (I've done 3-400 miles on gravel roads) and refuse to uphold their warrantee, from my research this can't be damage due to stone drilling.

Sunroof exploded on interstate with no other cars around. Thought we had been shot. Noticed air sound and started to open sunroof to have shards of glass fall on us. Closed roof. Pulled off as soon as we got to exit making sure that no one was behind us so that those pieces which were flying off our car would not cause a broken windshield for someone else or an accident. Took pictures of sunroof with huge hole with glass pointing upward. Nothing in the area between roof and sunroof closer. Took to dealer and were told it was covered only to find out that Toyota/Lexus denied. Denied by Lexus. Told to turn it in to our insurance. This car is brand new, less than 4000 miles on it. There were no warnings and it scared the heck out of me and my husband. Followed suggested cover for return trip home which just flew off.

My dashboard is melting due to a manufacturing defect. The glare from my dashboard makes driving difficult as the glare can blind you. The chemical smell from the melting is horrible. I have placed a dash cover on which has helped but if I am in an accident this dash cover will impede the correct deployment of my airbag on the passenger side. Also the inside door panels are melting and are becoming a "putty" like substance. Everything sticks to it. Including my clothes. While driving I have had to jerk my arm from the rest on the door trim to remove it. This can cause my vehicle to possibly swerve off the road or into oncoming traffic. Warranty Enhancement Program – ZLD and CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAM ZLZ were the remedies for this issue. But these have expired. The Manufacturer will not honor this or consider this a safety / hazardous issue and correct it now. This is a safety issue and needs to be addressed.

The contact owns a 2010 Lexus HS250 Hybrid. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the contact depressed the brake pedal to avoid traffic however, the brake pedal felt loosened and the vehicle started to swerve from the left to the right. Additionally, the contact stated that the steering wheel was loose causing the vehicle to swerve from left to right. The contact stated that the ABS, brakes, and an unknown warning light was illuminated. The contact stopped the vehicle and drove back to her residence. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 161,000.
